When I was 23 I went out on a date with a guy who was also around that age. It was clear within moments of meeting that he was a socially anxious introvert who had no idea how to talk to women. He still paid. You don't need to have heaps of experience to know the basics of treating a woman.

How do you know that he would be making multi millions? Is he already a millionaire? Does he have a super successful business or something?

In my opinion if that was his concern he wouldn't have brought it up at all, rather than giving the excuse that OP's house is in the opposite direction. That makes it about inconveniencing him, rather than her safety and comfort.

For me, I think it's the excuse he gave that's slightly off-putting. "I would offer you a ride, but I would have to drive in the opposite direction" Nobody likes to be inconvenienced, but people are willing to be inconvenienced for someone they care about. A couple of years ago, I was hanging out at a platonic male friend's house. (It was a group of us; I wasn't alone with him or anything.) We ended up hanging out until almost midnight, and he left his own house to drive two of us back home beca…

I am a gamer, so I like other games because then there will always be a common hobby to do together. However I also like men who are healthy and fit, as well as charismatic instead of socially awkward. Unfortunately it seems like the fit, charismatic gamers I know are already married at my age, leaving me with slightly out of shape socially awkward options. Lately I've gotten open to dating non-gamers too.

Sorry if this sounds judgy, but I'm a little confused on why you think he's a great guy, even just on paper. He has no career. On paper, he's not suitable as a husband for anybody. A lot of men are nice and prioritize their woman. It's also rather easy to prioritize your woman when you're basically unemployed. If you're worried about your body count, stop sleeping with men you basically just met. One month is still strangers.

My opinion is that people have different social needs, abut ultimately human beings are social animals. However, it is possible for a person to give up on socialization due to trauma or other stuff, and decide that being alone is better than being expose to toxic or abusive individuals. I think it's more of a trauma response than a natural state. Very few small children have zero interest in interacting with other humans. Also, some people are able to be content (not necessarily happy) by relyin…

Can you ask what made you date your husband even though he wasn't your type?

Wow, was it hard to move back to your home country? That's really inspiring. I think if I did receive a good job offer and felt some degree of security there in that regard, I wouldn't mind moving. It's just a bit difficult, and unfortunately my extended family aren't in a position to just let me live with them for free indefinitely, so I'd have to be independent

I have friends who share my cultural background, but other than that it's not like there's a public place where people from my country gather. People have their own social circles and are generally a bit reserved in my city. You're probably right. I've been trying to work on my own value to attract higher quality men.

Thanks for responding. I think going forward I'm going to consider sharing my cultural values as the priority and consider the rest nice to haves, although it does somehow make me a little sad.

I mean... If I wrote twenty paragraphs on what exactly I'm looking for in a man, would anyone read it? I stuck to writing mainly what felt unique to my situation. Since I'm posting on this sub, it can be assumed that I am looking for a man with traditional values, with a stable job, etc.

Thanks for your post. I am interested in moving, but I've lived in the US my entire life, so while I'm not happy here, there's a big barrier to moving, both emotionally and practical concerns like finding a job in an unfamiliar market, sorting out citizenship/visa (depending on where I go). After reading these posts, I do think I should begin prioritizing finding someone who shares my values, perhaps remaking my dating profile to reflect that, although I'm not sure how I can change my strategy w…

To keep personal details brief, my longest relationship was embarrassingly short, only a couple months. He was a recent immigrant and shared my values, but we had a different sense of humor, and we had a few overlapping interests, but had many interests the other didn't share as well. He ended things but didn't say why. Up until that point, it was probably my most "successful" relationship, simply because all of my other relationships have been bad or just too short to be considered a relationsh…

That's amazing. I'm so glad you're happily married! If you don't mind me asking, if you had a checklist, was there anything on your checklist that you decided after meeting your husband that don't matter anymore? I'm at the point where I've been opening myself up to getting coffee or dinner with people who meet some parts of my checklist but not others. However, it's often the case that after one or two meetings, I am simply unable to see myself having a future with them, and then I feel a bit g…

I'm looking for a man with a provider mindset, so one part of vetting is by letting him offer to pay for dates. If a guy wants to split, I'll split, then if he asks for a second date, politely let him know we aren't compatible. By the way, I've never turned down an otherwise great guy because of this policy. I've only been asked to split like 2-3 times in my life, and they all turned out to be awful men.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
