Yes means no too. The first time we had sex, I asked my girlfriend twice, because we'd only JUST started dating. She said yes twice, seemed to be enthusiastic, and... actually meant no. She said she felt she had been raped and that she only said yes because "What young couple in their 20s doesn't have sex?" When I ask "Do you wanna have sex?" it's a genuine question. There isn't a wrong answer. I just wanna know if you're into it or if we should do something else. You know. Because I value your …

Well that's different, police are part of the patriarchy, and the female officers are just supporting hegemonic masculinity because of their internalized sexism. /s but I have read many an argument that seriously meant this

Sure, absolutely. I don't know about straight people to be honest, but Grindr is alive and well for gay/bi men (and transgender women, in my experience).

A 13 year old cannot reasonably consent to sexual activity, and a 20 year old should know that. Two counts took place when she was 18 and him 11. Three more when she was 17 and him 10. At no point was he capable of giving actual consent.

Minor fathers are sometimes required to pay child support. Also, there is precedent for men who have been raped having to pay child support. Hopefully this kid doesn't have to deal with any of that. He has already been through more than enough.

"had sex with" ... raped "seducing"... grooming This is child sexual assault. It's inexcusable. And the language used to talk about that matters.

Eh, I have mixed feelings about this. It's absolutely important to recognize men who have endured sexual harrassment and assault. #metoo, though well meaning, pretty much became a movement for public condemnation with no evidence, chance for defense, or legal rights. Is it really progress if supporting those who have been hurt comes at the cost of forgoing even the pretense of justice? I think (or I deeply hope, anyway, as a man who was assaulted and who was also falsely accused of assault) that…

If you two break up Make this a WHEN you break up, OP. Whether she is pregnant or not, this is clearly not a relationship that has a healthy future. And in your next relationship, ensure that you use birth control. Meaning YOU. She can too, but you have to know for sure that you're doing everything you can to avoid pregnancy.

Abusers are great at twisting things around and pretending they're the victim. They don't just manipulate the person they're attacking... they manipulate everyone so they can keep doing it/get away with it. This is part of why it is so important to take the time to investigate all the facts and evidence available and decide what the just outcome is, not make snap, black-and-white judgments because revenge feels good.

Document, document, document. Document like your job depends on it... because it probably does. I am guessing you have security cameras in the building. This is good and will help you. Also back up your emails obviously. But also keep a little notebook with you, and not down notes if you need to. If someone yells at you, write down (AS IT HAPPENS OR RIGHT AFTER) who, when, where, why, what they said, who saw it... and then who you alerted, when, and in what form. If someone threatens you, even i…

Honestly, dude, DO THIS. I'm autistic and had an absolutely brutal time at a former worksite because there was such a personality mismatch. Many times people assumed I was lazy, aloof, or outright lying... but I simply was focused on doing my job as best I could. You might be autistic. Or you might not be. But look into it. The fact that I am open with my diagnosis helped me a lot with my department and my boss (who are all wonderful anyway, but really went above and beyond to help). But also be…

I really don't care about ugly tits, tbh. It's not like every man has perfect pecs or a flat chest. Hell there are dudes out there with bigger man boobs than some women's actual boobs. If you don't wanna wear a shirt while you're mowing the lawn or swimming or something, go for it, regardless of gender.

I would hope so. I really don't give a shit what your junk looks like or how much melanin you have. I want to know what you really intend to achieve (and how) with the economy, foreign policy, infrastructure, medicine, criminal justice, and preserving domestic rights. It isn't about men vs women. It's about who has the vision and ability to get all of us to a better place.

Uhhh... rape is caused by a person deciding to have sex with someone without their consent. That's pretty much just it. It's not hormones, it's not alcohol, it's not the way someone dresses, it's not that someone just can't resist... it's that they either didn't ask, asked someone who couldn't give a meaningful answer, or asked and ignored the answer. I mean Jesus it's not that hard. Notice I say people. Men can rape and be raped. Women can rape and be raped. It isn't evil men vs. scared women..…

Set it to something energy efficient. Anyone who is cold can put on a sweater. I'm cold as hell unless I am moving, even when my family or coworkers are roasting. It has nothing to do with sexism. And I don't grouse... I either get moving or (as I am now) cozy up under an electric blanket.

Honest to god I am so glad I am bisexual. Sure I experience physical and romantic attraction to people regardless of their gender/junk/whatever. And that is cool. But like I feel sort of bad (not pity, just that it must be hard) for straight guys who have to choose between sex/romance and the minefield of male/female interactions. Honestly, as a transgender man, there are a small minority of transgender people and groups who ruin it for everyone. The vast majority of people just want to go on with their lives as usual and not make a big fuss or make everyone bend to their will. The transier-than-thou PC brigade doesn't find much love with trans people either.

I know this is daily mail trash, but screw it, I'm drunk on a Sunday morning. What on earth could possibly lead to a person feeling unsafe and ashamed because they shared a unisex bathroom? Everyone is there to pee, poop, hopefully wash their hands, and get back to life. I am a transgender man. "I want him to look like his daddy" I don't understand this at all. I have never seen my dad's dick. I never want to see my dad's dick. The only time I probably ever would is if I were taking care of him when he was very elderly and needed intensive home care. At that point I will probably be in my 60s and anyway foreskins will be the last thing on my mind. Seriously, at what point does it EVER matter that a dad's dick looks like his son's!?!?!?

It's partly about what we -- generally speaking, not as individuals -- are "allowed" to do. Women and girls get less flak for acting in than they do for acting out. Men and boys, likewise, get less flak for acting out than for acting in. Either way it sucks, but it is a general trend.

To my mind, it's not whether I (or they) agree with the war, it's that they put their lives on hold or even at risk to do that duty. My job doesn't require anything close to that and I still appreciate a thank you for my hard work and dedication. And I'm too fat and too cowardly to do much in the way of pursuing national interests, so if there are people willing to do that, they more than deserve a thank you. Man, sometimes it's good to be a trans man. I've got the uterus (and the IUD, and pregnancy-inhibiting testosterone) and I know I'm not gonna fuck my guy over with some bullshit scheme. And I know anyone who tries to make a baseless accusation is full of shit because I literally cannot get anyone pregnant, which is obvious to anyone who has ever seen me sans pants. But if Carhartt puts out an ad saying (idk, just out of my ass) men don't have to be as tough as their jackets because toxic masculinity is a thing... fuck em. Meh. I really don't care if women want to have a movement dedicated to or focusing primarily on their own concerns. That's what we men have here isn't it? Women know women's issues best because they have actually lived those concerns. And we know men's issues best because we actually live our own concerns. I think both sides can be a valid part of achieving equality across the sexes.

Oh it doesn't end there. Some cis and trans women will plead with trans men not to become men because in choosing to be men we choose to be inherently oppressive. (We don't choose and aren't inherently oppressive but whatever.) Some call us gender traitors whose idea of what women can do, be, and look like is so narrow that our misogyny deceives us into trying to be men, and once we "get ours" in soaking up all that male privilege, we obviously stomp down women rather than lift them up. Some cis…

To my mind, men and women are equal. Sure we have our broadly general tendencies as genders, but they're neither universal nor mandatory, and they're not good or bad, they just are. Men and women are equally capable, equally responsible, equally smart, equally creative, equally nurturing, equally destructive, equally... well, people. We have our (general) advantages and disadvantages. I think it's quite fair and justifiable for men to focus on men's issues as those are what we know and live. Lik…

I actually agree with one part of what she said... it's a decision you need to make on your own. Yes. If it is your penis it is your decision and no one else's. If you decide to get circumcised when you are fully capable of understanding the pros and cons, that is your right. But your child's penis is not YOURS to make that decision.

I was controlling her finances and her ability to eat when I wouldn't go out and buy her Hardee's. She would and I quote "literally die if [she didn't] get a McDonald's cheeseburger" instead of me making her ramen when we got home. I'm afraid to show my emotions not because I will be perceived as less of a man but because I will be perceived as a threat toward women that must be punished. A great deal of this is based in my experiences of domestic violence from an ex-girlfriend, but the reinforcement in the last six years since our breakup has absolutely reinforced it. If I am frustrated, I am seen as potentially controlling and/or violent, simply by virtue of my gender, despite my personal actions to the contrary. If I am…

Idk, as a bi man, I kind of get it. I would never say "women is too headache", but there is something just... comfortable about dating someone of the same gender. You probably have a more similar experience of how you were raised. (Boys do this, boys aren't allowed to do that.) I understand the idea behind this was meant to be helpful. As a transgender person I can particularly appreciate that. It can -- especially for those early in transition or for those who are visibly transgender -- be difficult to find a place to shift in peace. Christ this is dumb, and I'm saying this as a trans man. Did the infant emerge from your body? Cool. You get maternity leave. Did it not? You don't. It's not about the validity of your gender or who is superior, it's more about the fact that growing a human being and recovering from getting it out into the world is pretty physically taxing. I would argue that paternity leave also needs to be expanded so men get a chance to bond with their kids, but that's not what's being argued here. When you t…

Oh it did. IIRC... I think the moms were originally from South Dakota so they weren't super well received as lesbians, but they moved around quite a bit after adopting the kids from Texas (which def had a racial component in the Hart moms' favor, tho idk about lesbian-wise) and ended up in a super lefty woke part of Oregon. This is domestic violence, and sexual assault if not straight up rape. Tampering with birth control is a HUGE method of exacting control over the other partner, and if they don't (or can't have) consented to sex knowing about the risk of pregnancy and/or STI transmission then it is at the very least sexual assault (possibly rape depending on your area). It never hurts to have a method under your control and yours alone, but that doesn't mean it is your fault if this happens to you. Know that you…

Bisexuality and pansexuality are roughly analogous. There have been years of arguments about it but more or less, yeah, it means you're into loving and/or having sex with people of more than one gender. Asexuality means you aren't into having sex with anyone. You might still have romantic interests, or maybe you don't, in which case the term aromantic applies.

They mean libertarian in the sense that it's usually meant on the international scale, which is to say, laissez faire or anarchic. Not libertarian in the uniquely American sense of being laissez faire with the markets but quite conservative socially. Basically it's a measure of how hands-off (vs. hands-on / authoritarian) a policy or government is.

Jesus, I know they think they're being progressive, but it's not fucking woke to be inclusive of trans people like this. If you see someone who is (say) 5' 11" and has a five o clock shadow and a deep voice, you're probably gonna guess that they're a man. Doesn't really matter if he has a dick or not... that's a man. Telling him he can come to the debate because he's trans is a big old dog whistle "I don't see you as a real man, I am just humoring you so that I can show off how tolerant I am". T…

I mean I guess I could see them being dangerous if they were improperly grounded and the circuit to the internal vibrator shorted out and electrocuted your dick... I mean I kind of get it. I had a very abusive ex-girlfriend and I get scared of shit that, logically, isn't a threat at all. It just reminds me of her and her threats to hurt/kill me. But that's not dealing in reality. That's a mental illness. That's the aftermath of trauma. The fun part is how feminism isn't just for women... but simultaneously men need to sit down and shut up because this has nothing to do with us. The only way to win is not to play, and that's a loose definition of winning. Ignoring feminism, just broadly speaking, might get you branded as a misogynist. Anything can get you branded as a misogynist, at least in the eyes of some zealots. Best to just try to be a good person without thinking about gender and just, y'know, you do you.

I never understood that about "Teach men not to rape." Yeah, no shit, we teach EVERYONE not to rape. It's not like that is new information or something that men will have to practice. Everyone knows not to rape... some people (men and women) rape other people (men and women) anyway. It shouldn't be controversial to state the facts. Masculinity isn't toxic and men are not inherently violent.

Vicks is pretty much eucalyptus oil and menthol in a carrier jelly (or an aerosol, I suppose, for the inhaler). I hate to be one of those ~essential oils~ people but I got a little bottle of the eucalyptus stuff in the candle section at Meijer and it seems to work well. I have a gnarly chest cold right now and putting a few drops of that in the shower (drain plugged) helps clear me up more than just plain steam.

While that was the original intention and definition of the phrase, "toxic masculinity" has morphed into something that is much more commonly used to ridicule, blame, and humiliate men. Words and ideas are like knives. They make wonderful tools to make wonderful and useful things sometimes. They can also be used to intimidate and wound. And however nicely the phrase may have been meant to carve out a useful distinction, it has become a crudely-wielded shiv.

No and no. The concept of "toxic masculinity" is utter nonsense. But those who believe in it will not be deterred by this miniature protest... they will only consider it more evidence that they are right. And for those who don't believe that so-called toxic masculinity exists, the jacket is little more than a shout into the wind. I don't think masculinity needs to be redefined, but if anyone is in a position to make that call, it isn't women. For all the talk about "lived experience" and how men can never know what it is like to be a woman so we need to "sit down, shut up, and listen to women"... double standard much? I don't think anyone needs to unfailingly and unquestioningly defer to anyone else, but hey, maybe let men decide what masculinity is and how we want to handle it. Not once in my life have I ever heard a man say "boys will be boys". And never have I heard "boys will be boys" as an excuse for someone beating someone up or destroying their stuff or whatever. Forget toxic masculinity, toxic femininity, toxic whatever. Some people are assholes. It isn't their gender that makes them that way, they just are assholes. It's just "misogyny". Don't be a misogynist and tell women that men also endure systemic forms of oppression. /sarcasm of…

Get. A. Vasectomy. I am, for once in my life, glad that I have a trap card. (Literally, I am what used to be called a trap... as a transgender man I don't have a penis or testicles.) If a woman tries to accuse me of fathering her child in hopes of getting child support money... she is obviously making a fraudulent claim because the laws of nature make that impossible.

If an abusive partner will harm or kill your pets, it is very possible that they will escalate to harming or killing you. I cannot overstate the danger here. This is a huge warning sign that can't be ignored. This woman is a threat to him.

This is an excellent video, and much needed. However, if it is to be taken seriously, somebody has to correct the punctuation errors in the copy at the end. There are unnecessary commas and several faulty apostrophes. Men who have endured domestic violence (including myself) need all the credibility we can get. Publicity helps. But it needs to be have at least some degree of professionalism so that it earns trust and sympathy rather than scorn.

This is so important to repeat and understand. It is EXTREMELY common for abusers to spin the situation and declare that they are the victim and that the actual victim is the abuser. It provides a very convenient way of excusing and even lauding the perpetrator while continuing to degrade the person who is enduring that abuse. Perpetrators also very commonly use whatever cloaking devices they can use, including rhetoric and societal systems. They can use the language of religious institutions to…

What he did was skeevy, and he shouldn't have done it. I don't think it merited the level of outrage that it got. Trashing his reputation was never going to be a step toward undoing or repairing the alleged damage, it was vengeance plain and simple. Either way, his creepy actions have no bearing on his comedic talents or his need to make a living somehow. If he chooses to return to standup, so be it. That's his choice. If people choose to be in the audience for his standup, so be it. That's thei…

Back when this first blew up, I heard a podcast where someone wrote in to say "You don't get to call #MeToo a witch hunt. Women were the victims of actual witch hunts just for being women, and disbelieving them now is more of the same". The hosts thought this was great. I stopped listening to the podcast. As someone who was falsely accused by an extremely abusive partner -- initially because she was inadvertently triggered despite giving continuous affirmative enthusiastic consent, and I believe…

I've transitioned, like the person in the example text. I have been taking testosterone shots for years. The "testosterone makes you angry/aggressive " thing is a lie. It's a cop-out. It is very common and easy to say "oh, well men are angry I guess, and this gives me a socially acceptable outlet for my fears and anger" but it is a lie nonetheless. And it's one that is damaging to men -- transgender or cisgender -- because it assumes we are just angry beasts with no self-control. Transitioning c…

I used to know a woman who was a forester. She kicked ass. I also used to work for a woman who ran a fisheries laboratory (most of the lab was female actually) and she was a powerhouse too. In fact, in most jobs I have worked, the women have been as good as the men. Some ruled, some sucked, and most were just average. It's not that women can't do hard work. They absolutely can. It's just a fucking cop-out when some women claim that they can't or shouldn't have to just because of their sex. That …

Predatory people will always find a way to rationalize and excuse their actions. They do not care if others are hurt so long as their own defense is maintained. #MeToo is no exception to this. It's a very good tool to use, actually, because it carries such societal weight and it is difficult to question without drawing ire. Consider also those who batter their partners but dress it up in the language of domestic violence prevention. They don't mean to hurt you, and actually, you're the one who i…

Wait, for real? That is some bullshit. My parents, who have been married for nearly 40 years, chose to put me through college. Because they wanted to and they could. The state or the courts did not decree it. They absolutely could have decided that I needed to get scholarships, loans, and/or a job. How the fuck is a divorced parent obliged to help with college tuition? Charlottesville isn't a men's problem, it's a white supremacist problem. Some men are white supremacists. Most aren't. Some white supremacists are men. Some are women. It makes no sense to say that men broadly are culpable for racial terrorism. It would make just as little sense to say that all women are responsible for global warming or some shit.

I don't want to ruin the guy or his family because a) he is my close family so I care about him and we have a lot more positive history than negative, b) it would ruin my family too, c) as assaults go it was relatively minor, and d) he and I were able to work it out with a counselor and the understanding that I would involve authorities if it happened again. I have been sexually assaulted. It sucked. A lot. There was no forensic evidence, and there was nothing except his word and mine. Doesn't mean it didn't happen or it didn't suck. You know what it also doesn't mean? That we should abandon our legal system so that I can get my way or someone can get their way being my advocate. And you know what else it doesn't mean? I live with mental illness. It's pretty well managed nowadays, but it is something I will always have to manage. When it was not managed as well, I did feel suicidal a lot, and put myself in some very dangerous situations knowing they were potentially fatal. The illness is the brain chemistry/genetics/physical damage that makes me unable to regulate my thoughts and emotions in a healthy way. The extreme stressors th…

Someone with breasts that are accentuated by a dress with a low neckline is 99.999% going to be a woman who wants to be respected as a woman. Refusing to assume anyone's gender is not respectful, it's foolish and often rude. The vast majority of the world is cisgender, so what you see is what you g…

The pink tax is dumb. Women's products do often cost more, or are of inferior quality, or come with useless extras. The solution to this is not complaining about how much that stuff costs, it's to stop buying it. Women's razors suck, and they're overpriced. But ungendered razors work perfectly well and they are less expensive. Maybe just buy those. Give money to companies that make products you like, and stop propping up the ones who slap pretty colors and a moisturizing bar on the ones you hate…

This is bullshit, and it's old bullshit. Besides the obvious way this is so anti-men, let me knock his argument out from under him another way that he might actually be receptive to. The other side of this coin is that femininity is inherently virtuous... which has been used to keep women down. After all feminists are very keen to point out that nagging is not abuse but when a man goes on it is. Holy shit, thanks for pointing this out. I don't know how I never realized it, but that sheds a whole lotta light on an abusive relationship I had in my early 20s. A minor point... if you change your legal sex you are automatically excluded from the draft. The feds find out when you update your info in the system. The draft is still bullshit. Oh, vehemently so. I don't really get it tbh. I am a transgender man and I really don't give two shits about the actors who portray trans people. The whole point about acting is that you are portraying someone else. Besides, if it means trans stories are getting out there, isn't that for the better? It seems petty to not tell a story because the "right" actor wasn't chosen. I figure whoever is cast will give the portrayal the director wanted, and even a flawed movie is still something.

Nah, man, there's a difference between seduction and harassment. Seduction would be trying to set the mood and get your partner (who is not opposed to sex, just not horny either) fired up. Harassment is more like nagging. Ever known someone who asks if you want to do something, but they're not asking a question or making a request, they are giving a command? And then they just fucking nag and nag and nag until you get so sick of it you give in to get them off your back?

"In before", like "I'm posting in this thread before someone says X / it gets locked / it gets deleted". It's an older internet term. Parents of either sex should share in the full responsibilities of childcare. If men are prohibited from taking care of their children -- by inadequate access to facilities, by lack of parental leave, by social stigma -- this is bad for every member of the family. Fathers do not get quality time with their children. Children do not get quality time with their father. Mothers are expected to do all of the caretaking alone, which can be a lot to shoulder. Tensions between mothers and fathers grow …

So use birth control? Everyone in a sexual relationship needs to take personal responsibility for birth control and disease prevention. Men and women both. I mean, yeah, pregnancy is pretty physically taxing, and as yet, that's just a female thing. But pregnancy doesn't just spontaneously happen. Of course children are demanding. They are little people who are wholly dependent on adults. So if kids aren't for you... avail yourself of some birth control. Or look into abortion options. Or consider…

It's true, anyway. I find it utterly exhausting and humiliating. I understand the importance of explicit (and preferably verbal) consent for sexual activity. That makes sense, and it is not at all difficult to ask a partner if they would like [example] and act accordingly. I can't begin to understand the "silence is consent" narrative when it comes to politics. Silence may just be a product of a person genuinely not knowing what happened, or deciding that they do not have enough factual informat…
