Tbh, as a woman I feel similarly. The main difference I see between men and women on this subreddit is how hurt gets externalised by men more than women.

Another reason for this leniency is how it can align to a broad preference for the masculine to be bigger than the smaller feminine. This often comes up in talks about women's strong height preference but another way for a woman to feel smaller relative to her partner is weight.

YouGov has some interesting and funny data on this point. Both genders at a macro level think they are more attractive than they actually are / is possible in either a normal or uniform distribution.

Do you mean American women? There are a few countries where sex work is decriminalised / legalised.

He's quite attractive objectively, and subjectively omg I would definitely approach / want to date or be friends with him. But am not surprised at some of the responses lol, this is PPD and some of the standards on here are really absurd.

I haven't seen any info about Pew changing / improving their data collection for this study, that would definitely be relevant to know. However without that, I think a comparator like the census showing some notably different information is more evidence-based and persuasive than anecdotal information.

FYI, the Pew sampling set seems to have some big problems oversampling young women in serious relationships.

I thought it was a really shocking and interesting finding at first and was interested in what could have changed so recently - but as always with studies, it helps to dig into the data and do some comparisons.

Not trying to spam but as the same topic consistently gets posted: the Pew data study these stats are from has sampling issues (or potentially question phrasing issues).

I edited my comment above to link to one in particular that does a comparison with the US Census. edit: looks like there were deletions but I doubt it's because anything in that particular comment broke a rule, so will replicate it and edit it in above!

The Pew data study you are referring to has significant sampling issues. /u/ta06012022 has posted some excellent information about this. Here's one comment that goes into detail comparing this particular sampling set to the US Census (appears there were deletions but doubt it's about this comment breaking a rule so have replicated it below): But that it's a 2x deviation...that is humongous. But that 2x deviation also isn't real. Pew hasn't published the underlying dataset for that July 2022 surv…

Insecure could play out a couple of ways: He is shy, has been bullied, has body dysmorphia, is uncomfy with women who fetishise his height etc: I would have some hesitations and doubts but would proceed with caution. He has a huge chip on his shoulder about what women find attractive and women in general: I would feel extremely uncomfortable and on edge, and would extricate myself asap then politely message to say I don't think it's a match.

Something else I think can get missed is that, because it is easy, a lot of people do it. Further to that, people are naturally inclined to be kinder to more attractive people. If what you bring to the table is only what almost everyone else has, your odds aren't great.

The argument being that a woman who likes you for your resources or what you provide does not truly desire you and will not treat you as well as she did her (most likely) attractive but toxic ex. She can like/love you but if she does not completely lust after you then there will always be something intangible missing. We all know that the same woman will not treat all her bf’s or partners with the same enthusiasm and effort. Are there many women who are putting attraction as a secondary priority…

You need to work on your numeracy if you cannot see how the numbers in the table are sourced from the data in the tables in the linked survey. When you refer to "the OKcupid data", do you mean the data and insights in this post? If so, while it's true this data pulls on millions of profiles, it is also 16 years old. The YouGov data linked has a few thousand respondents across a range of ages and genders in the UK and is from 2017; I'd say it's a pretty good dataset for a Western country and is m…

YouGov poll Hahaha those stats are great. I always wonder if there were some guideline parameters around the scale what might change (e.g. if it was clarified that they were asking for your self-rating within people of your age group, not everyone of your gender; or if there were example photos placed along the scale so people had a common idea of where others might fall before being asked to place themselves). I suppose the core idea (too many people think they are better than average) wouldn't…

Who is defining the attractiveness of women in your comment, if men in general aren't?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/23 12:05 PM

I think the phrase 'low standards', maybe bc it's a negative framing, infers a negative attitude people have about their options. 'I have very low standards' is rarely followed by a positive sentiment. On the other hand, 'I find lots of people attractive' is more positively framed and I've seen this used for positive and negative feelings about the dating scene.

I think the best course of action is going to depend on the individuals and relationship dynamics involved. For me, my dad is abusive. I need a partner who will listen and respect what I tell him about that man and will back me up regarding him. A situation like this would probably be traumatising for me and I might have frozen up; I would expect him to notice and get us both out of there quickly, and I would probably need space and quiet time afterwards to calm down, so I would need him to be a…

Yeah, it's easy to think of lots of approaches that someone you're already attracted to could do that would be well received. I think the approach I described would avoid an unsuccessful approacher being called a creep by most people though, and what individual people are attracted to isn't a monolith.

I did a quick google after you first commented to see if I was incorrect in assuming it was a synonym for flirting. A couple of dictionary definitions were "make sexual advances towards someone" and "to show someone that you are sexually attracted to them". So actually maybe a subset of flirting?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/23 10:47 PM

Ah interesting, I'm not sure I would say a compliment in passing qualifies as hitting on someone! Most of the time when I see that it is people being friendly and encouraging rather than trying to flirt.

This is a good question! The Jabba the Hutt criteria makes it quite tricky though. I'm not sure there is a way I would enjoy being hit on by someone I found very unattractive? Would be interesting to know if men would also feel the same way about someone they found as appealing as Jabba hitting on them. For any guy, regardless of attractiveness, I think the best way to hit on someone is to open with a friendly-only conversation starter, and see how the reaction is. If it's positive you could mov…

You're right fiction isn't real life, so I'm not sure why you think women liking to read ETL means they'd like a similar relationship IRL. In the ETL I've read there's a big focus on grudging respect for intelligence and accomplishments, but am sure there's different variations in the genre
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/23 09:35 AM

I'm not sure why you think my point (that a man of undefined attractiveness can improve his odds a surprising amount with some basic respect) is inconsistent with yours (a man of sufficient attractiveness does not need to meet further standards to pull). I'm a big fan of ETL, I'm surprised you don't think that some level of respect is an important component of the dynamic! This is something readers have commented on. You can't view someone as an enemy if you have no respect at all for them, othe…
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/23 09:07 AM

We're obviously not going to agree about our respective different lived experiences. On your last sentence, I don't know what to do about the reading comprehension going on here. Of course a man who at least fakes some basic respect will do better than a man who doesn't keep misogynistic views to himself. Showing some basic respect was the original point I made.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/23 08:56 AM

We might live in different cultures (or defining respect differently?). The men I know who have pulled the most women have all had some basic respect, even if they are mowing through ladies like a runaway train. It's just a lot more difficult to get women into bed if you insult them and other women who have sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/23 08:34 AM

I was pointing out that of the factors that can add or subtract from overall attractiveness, such an easy win with a surprisingly notable positive impact is left on the table by quite a few men. There's a difference between saying something is low hanging fruit, and saying something is the only issue between a guy with zero options and a guy with many options.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/23 08:24 AM

As a woman I think it's amazing how much a man can boost his chances of pulling by having some basic respect for women as human beings (e.g. not slut shaming women if he wants to fuck around, not SAing women). Tbf I have a couple guy friends who are just as confounded on this point, but have been happy to enjoy the competitive sexual market advantage of being a man with some basic social decency. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent baffling 'the bar is in hell why do so many women refuse to ju…

I've lived in a couple of Western cities and in both there were plenty of adults in community theatre, including men into women who had multiple options or partners who most people would consider were a lot more attractive than themselves. So I presume Montreal is similar. Any hobby or activity which has an equal or favourable gender ratio would be good to try though. One activity with a very favourable gender ratio for straight men is community theatre. There's different ways to participate (backstage stuff, or even just attending shows) if acting is very much not your cup of tea. Cosmetic surgery is not where I would jump to before trying to meet more women IRL first, but it's your life.

Imo truerateme is about as delusional about looks as PPD is with all their average looking Hollywood star references lolol. There's some pretty unpleasant racial features prioritised/deprioritised in their system imo. I don't know what to say except men much less attractive than you have their pick of the ladies where I live. A change in location or meeting women through friends or IRL might be really helpful if the dating app meatgrinder isn't working. I wish you all the best!

What genuine answer do you think women are prevented from giving you about slut shaming? Do you think women who say they are against this are secretly thinking something different? Gay guys and men with women will also do this for strangers. The first sentence once you're out of earshot is always about how they are just checking they're ok and if they say yes, the pulled aside lady will head back over. If not, they'll help them get away into an Uber or whatever.

I don't think I've ever seen this. It's mostly about escaping an uncomfortable or unsafe situation. If it's related to envy, depending on who they're envious about, they will either flirt with the guy or unsuccessfully try to distract the woman.

One advantage I rarely see mentioned about heavier guys is that their size can help women feel smaller, which is often a critical feature of straight women's feelings of attraction. In more rural/conservative areas, skinnier guys won't appeal as much to the average woman as heavier/stockier guys.

I don't think all the women I know are well below average or antisocial. But I suppose I haven't looked through all of their inboxes, I'm judging this based on comments they've often made about the lack of interest guys show in them.

Would love to hear an expansion of how apparently all marriage laws are in favour of women. Your entire post infers a poor grasp of relationship property law and how the court and most people view hiding assets. I'm not sure, it certainly seemed like a plausible explanation as to why the numbers between men and women were so different in that data. Did you think a different reason was the cause of the gender discrepancy in the Pew data?
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 06:26 PM
5

Well it does happen to reflect the recent Pew data, but I think it probably also reflects that this sub is incel-adjacent. It therefore attracts incel men who are likely mostly single, and curious humanities nerds/online trainwreck enthusiasts of all genders, which I doubt has a strong correlation with relationship status.

Thanks for linking the data OP. I started clicking around in a pivot table but I doubt anyone considers this a surprising insight.

I think so. Attraction is a funny thing though, I might be attracted to Man A who I perceive as better than me, but I might not necessarily be attracted to (or more attracted than Man A) Man B even if he technically has more wealth, is smarter etc. I think the theory of hypergamy isn't a complete explanation of attraction, dating and relationship dynamics. Theories about trauma explain a lot more about those things in my opinion.

I have pretty low self esteem so I don't think I know many men that I think I'm better than. Just because I think someone is a better person than me doesn't meant I'm attracted to them though.

This is a really interesting question, so much of the premise doesn't align with my life: The areas of 'value' you defined made me realise I don't think I've ever met a man I would consider more talented, successful etc than my husband. The timeframes have some early/later exceptions to the general 18 rule where I live (outside the US). Usually changes in numbers of dependent children and income is what can lead to changes in child support liability where I'm from though. I'm not familiar with Cali child support formulae or timeframes, but in general across the US actually receiving $2500 a month until the kids were 18 would be an uncommonly good child support arrangement. This article summarises some recent census data and the averages are a lot more bleak. Even so, the woman in this hypothetical would be in a far better position if she had some higher education or work history. For me personally it sounds like a bad deal I'd be too anxious to sign up for.

I have had compliments along those lines, and it made me feel happy and appreciated that my friends saw and admired my efforts to take care of them and others. The most overt time this happened was when a girl got drunk and told me she loved hanging out with me because whenever she went out with other guys they would always leave her alone to chase after other girls but I would always make sure she’s safe.
