Stern Hui and other Australian citizens arrested in China as part of commercial disputes come to mind.

All we know is that there was 36 kilograms of ice (initial reports said 70kg) in their shared luggage. China doesn't have the best record for having a transparent judicial system, and they appeared in court just a month after being initially picked up. That doesn't sound like enough time for a sufficient investigation. It's surprising that she wouldn't realise they were carrying a whole suitcase full of ice. It's... pretty suss.

Calm down. How did her friend tell you? Have you considered that her friend is either exaggerating or making it up? Unpleasant women will spread rumours and lies about people, even their friends, to increase their own status in their friendship group and create drama to put themselves at the center of attention.

She walked in to the living room from my bedroom, said something along the lines of 'clearly I was being a little too subtle' (she wasn't). I told her to get back into my room. Then well..

I had a similar situation happen to me when I was about 20. > Living in sweet inner city apartment. All the furniture, appliances and shit are mine brought in from my old place. > Move in with old friend from high school. > Explain when we move in that if a girlfriend moves in for more than 4 or 5 days a week she's paying 1/3 of the rent and utilities. > Old friend was quite short (I'm 6"1, he wasn't shoulder height), and a real beta in highschool. > Old friend is now an investment banker making…

In all fairness, she isn't just an office drone, she's an Oxford educated barrister. She's unbelievably good looking and given her relatively young age she has achieved ALOT. Of course George Clooney would have had more options than her, but to trivialise her achievements just because she's a woman is idiotic. It isn't about how much she makes, as some people in this chain have alluded to, but what she's done, how she's done it and the status and respect she's earned for her work, something I im…

It's about $200 in Australia at a legal brothel.

It's legal in Australia and these guys still exist. They wouldn't dream of visiting a prostitute. Guys I know who go to brothels are either the kind of people who are just MUCH hornier than average and need an extra outlet, or are professionals with the money, but not the time or the interest to actually chase girls.

You cannot change her. Do not try. Do you end up going back because the sex is insane? Because she fucks like a crazy woman? Well, she probably does, because she IS. In a manic phase people with bipolar can be engaging and exhilarating to be around, but when they are depressed they will drain the fucking life out of you. Think about this too. How are you going to care for your children? If you have children. She will be a disaster. In a manic phase she risks endangering them, and when she's depr…

This reminds me of a conversation I was having with some friends in my first year of university. To set the scene, we were all bright guys, two of us went on to be Rhodes scholars. We were talking about the Cold War, and this girl comes in to the conversation and says, completely out of the blue, 'America should give all the money it spends on defence to Brazil.' The other guys start nodding sagely and I feel like I've been sucked into this alternate universe. I try to debate her (because back t…

Well, there you go. Sounds like a genuine friendship to me. Some women are just bros :). Like any kind of pop-psychology, TRP isn't really an effective tool to fully categorise human behaviour, which is never completely predictable. TRP is about developing self-respect. If you aren't being taken advantage of in this relationship, then it sounds healthy. Stop asking yourself whether you're a beta orbiter, but if you really need to prove to yourself you aren't, go out and sleep with a few girls an…

In her mind possibly. Even if you honestly consider that you've got a platonic friendship, she might very well see you as being one of her orbiters. I wouldn't be satisfied with that kind of relationship, would you be? I think the thing to remember is that friendships for men are often based on shared experiences. It's easy to build those kind of friendships with other dudes, you just need a shared interest, even if it's just in your local sporting team of choice. It's harder for men to form tru…

"At the least that will help you clarify your short and long-term goals. If he refuses to go, and refuses to explore this with you, then that says something profound about what kind of life partner he is." If he doesn't go to a counselor who is just going to browbeat him into letting you have your own way, then he doesn't llllurrrvvve you. What's to explore here? Seriously? It's yes or no. You can't have half a kid, there isn't a way to compromise in this situation.

Every time a thread like this come up, there seem to be numerous 'don't shit where you eat' comments. Are you all that terrible at dealing with women that the thought of seeing a girl you tried to pick up/picked up ANYWHERE in the future makes attempting a pick up not worth it for you? What's your usual flirting strategy? Do you just slap her on her backside and ask her if she likes anal? If you're normal, I don't think there's going to be too much drama. Picking up girls at work if you're a pro…

"Do people truly think a relationship where both people are leaders is an effective way of handling things?" There is an assumption around this subreddit that traditional relationships are desirable, but a mischaracterisation of what traditional relationships were like. Women had responsibility for the internal sphere, home and hearth, while men were responsible for the external sphere. This dynamic has been turned on it's head somewhat because women are eschewing any responsibility for the inte…

Flirt with her. "What can I say? I'm dangerous." You need to say something that will make you stand out from the other schlubs she's messaging on Tinder, and you need to deal with shit tests relating to sex obliquely, otherwise you just look like the other 99 guys who've messaged her over the last month with 'My place, wanna fuck?'

Unfortunately we live in a world where the majority of people you meet are going to be at work. You need to make a judgement call for when its appropriate. If you're unlikely to meet someone again, it's fine. If you aren't a professional, it's fine. I'm not going to call a guy working at Walmart unprofessional for making a move on a cashier. It's harder to run good game in an office with someone you see everyday though. Outside of the Christmas party, things can be taken the wrong way, and ultim…

I've done the same thing, it's hilarious. I've worked in a government town, and as soon as you evade the question they automatically think you're a spook, and just keep trying to weedle it out of you. It's flirting 101, never give a straight answer, give an interesting answer. 'I work with psychopaths' is so much better than saying 'I'm a lawyer,' 'my work is dangerous' is so much better than saying you work in construction.

I've never done anything for Valentine's day, and I won't do anything this year. Why do people always try and overthink think this? Birthdays and Christmas are easy to handle too, just get something both of you can do together or a couple of slices of cake and go for a walk.

There is nothing unusual about this. There's already a stage of the Tour which is open to the public when the competitors in the main event are resting. The women won't actually race alongside the men (silly Guardian), they will be competing on the morning of the last day before the men's peloton arrives in Paris: http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/02/news/aso-announces-womens-race-at-2014-tour-de-france_315498. The responses in this thread make me wonder whether the people in this sub-reddit have the emotional development of adolescents. Of course, he should have gotten out of dodge as soon as he suspected she was unfaithful. But, it seems (though I'm not sure if people in that thread are just assuming) that he has children. At least in Australia, they still exist. Even clubs that allow female membership still have rooms reserved for men. The problem with these clubs is that some of the regulations can be quite stifling, particularly rules relating to dress codes. The posh factor has never really appealed to me either. There are a few more relaxed clubs which are really enjoyable to stay at though.

'(My hypothesis of why you white guys like sub-par looking Asian girls.)' We have different standards of beauty. I'm Eurasian, and grew up in Asia. White guys place less emphasis on skin tone and faux cutesy behaviour and find teeth and body shape to be more important. White guys don't get as hung up about eye sizes and often prefer taller woman, because they're taller themselves. People need to get over this yellow fever shit. Some people have a preference, and there's nothing wrong with that. …

It sucks for Singaporean men. They waste two years of their life doing national service and then get leap frogged in work by women and foreigners. Alot of people have to leave to start their careers. It's pretty obvious what's going on when you look at Australian universities. Tens of thousands of Singaporeans studying here, more than 2 men for each woman.

Like women, men need to make a decision on what we want out of life. While we aren't under as much pressure as women, if we want to be healthy and not in a nursing home to see our kids graduate and get married, we need to have kids before we turn 40. If you don't want to have kids though, that's fine. There's noone up there keeping score and counting how many kids we have. If there was, the best strategy would be to make regular trips to a sperm bank in a jurisdiction where your progeny would ha…

I'm a Magic player. The men with girlfriends who don't play cards are always better adjusted. The real weirdos date the 'gamer girls' who are usually quite strange themselves. The only female Magic player I've met that came off as being normal gave me a real lesbian vibe (either that, or she was very country).

Look, I'm not interested in starting a quotefest, but bro, you're contradicting yourself and not really making any sense. "That is morally repugnant. I'm sorry, but your 'logic' is idiotic. Just because something is natural doesn't mean it's 'good.' Human beings have a sense of right and wrong and are capable of making decisions which go against their own biological impulses. Rape is not a social or legal construct. Rape is intercourse without consent, and serves a clear biological purpose by allowing the initiator of the sexual contact to reproduce in a situation which they wouldn't otherwise be able to. We actually see rape's biological bas…

I know quite a few guys who are in relationships with their secretaries. Caught a colleage boffing his secretary after hours too. Lawyers work so hard that they don't really have the chance to meet women outside of work. Since the women are nearly always hot (my old firm's senior partner had a policy againat hiring overweight women at all. The girls had to be hot to be hired for administrative jobs) you can imagine what happens. The women are always fighting amongst each other, and the prettier …

I'm using my other degree in accounting and working for a large corporate doing tax advisory, which is 70% accounting and 30% law. Law isn't a great way to start your career in Australia (or the US for that matter). Because of strange funding models where law students pay the most, but cost the least to train, universities are encouraged to pump out an over supply of graduates. This means that even if you're lucky enough to find an entry level position, wages are depressed, hours are long, and m…

Used to work as a lawyer. Most very senior lawyers are men. About 75% of junior lawyers, and all support staff are women. It's very hard to deal with women in a workplace context while remaining professional, particularly because senior male staff hire their daughters and wives and place them in positions which would be ostensibly less senior than you. They go feral, particularly when they aren't good at their jobs, and are very challenging to manage. Majority female workplaces are notoriously b…

I tried to find the blog it was in a few days ago, and couldn't unfortunately. The results may be different to American results because both major parties are largely socially conservative, barring a few socialists in the Labor party and some libertarians and 'RINOS' in the Liberal party (Australia's conservative party). The difference is mostly based on protectionism vs free trade (and both parties have veered between the two in the last 50 years). I'm surprised that age would lead to liberalis…

An Australian statistician did a fairly in-depth analysis of demographics and voting intentions over the course of five or so federal elections. By voting intention, the most conservative demographics in Australia are men aged between 35 - 45 and women aged 55+. Young women aged 18 - 25 were the most liberal voting demographic, and a majority voted for a third party, the Greens (think Ralph Nader on steroids). Women progressively became more right leaning as they became older. So did men, but fa…

She would have probably gotten less than what was stipulated by the pre-nuptial. Australian law is unfair, but it certainly isn't that generous. A court looks at the contribution both parties make to the relationship and make an award accordingly. Often the domestic party's contribution is wildly overstated, but not like this. One reason men tend to fare worse in family disputes is that they're usually willing to aacrifice more, faster, to end it, and sometimes don't have the resources to keep f…

Funnily enough, this is the situation my cousin is in. He made alot of money in his 20's and early 30's, and sold his business when he had kids. The industry in Australia does need to change, its just a shame that proposals to change the industry's culture are always couched in gendered language. Billable hours are a huge deal, and they lead to lawyers working unnecessary hours in the office as 'face time.' There is less of a focus on quality of work, and a greater focus on time at work, which is ridiculous. The vast majority of law graduates are women in Australia.
