Purple pill is less about debate, and more about talking loudly over each other 😂 I think this place is better, because people at least are already questioning their beliefs. Young guys have it bad, they really need a place to get real advice, even if it's hard to hear.

It depends. When you're young and inexperienced and have essentially zero choice, it's easy to think, oh any average woman would do. But in truth, relationships are hideously complicated and physical attraction really works only during the initial part of the relationship. When you're thinking about whether you can stay with someone for 10+ years together, physical attraction is only a small part of the equation. I'm not saying it's zero, it's surely a factor, but things like psychological compa…

It's a dating app problem. Women get so spammed that they have to apply more or less arbitrary filters just to manage the flow (height, income, whatever). As a consequence, most men stand little chance of standing out. When you look at dating success stories, they often start with something like "I only met this guy because I loosened my filters a bit" or "I hit it off with this guy at an event who I would never have given a chance to in an app". Clearly, apps need to rethink their approach. Unf…

Sorry for joining discussion late, but hopefully I could still contribute. I'm curious why you think red pill is a right wing idea. Is it because it's currently being pushed by influencers in right wing circles? When I first found red pill, it was not part of the culture war, I think. I'd consider myself left leaning but I never saw red pill through a political lens. That said, I was probably more red pill lite than deeply enmeshed in the ideology, and to this day it still influences my thinking…

I've thought of this too. Currently, access to GLP-1's like ozempic is quite restricted, but at some point it will become widely available and indeed I expect governments would encourage or even mandate their citizens to take it. The economic case for reducing obesity is just too strong, both in terms of healthcare costs and reduced productivity. Furthermore, ozempic is now being talked up as a wonder drug https://time.com/6972086/ozempic-anti-inflammatory-drug/ Not only does it have beneficial …

I'm a 5'10 guy who once dated a 5'10 girl. Her height attracted me initially and I often made a point of complimenting that aspect of her, to the point where I convinced her to wear high heeled shoes when with me (she normally wore flats, for reasons which seem obvious in retrospect). I was not prepared for my own unconscious reaction. I did not like my date towering over me, and I could see that she was uncomfortable with it too. We didn't do that experiment again lol So I think there's somethi…

Sex is many things. It's part of our evolutionary drive for one. Not having sex is just against our natural instincts. Sex is a stand in for affection and companionship, as others have mentioned. I'm not convinced that friendships can replace the deeper sort of intimacy implied by sex, however. Sex is also validation. If you don't have access to sex, you're seen as a loser. That's why the word "incel" is such a pejorative. A man who doesn't get picked by a woman is no man at all, so this thinkin…

I can't squat 2.5x my bodyweight either or bench 275, should I stop going to the gym? We all have to start somewhere. While I agree that one shouldn't lift for chicks, developing it into a lifelong habit does make you a better person. Not just in the superficial way of big muscles, but keeping at it instills discipline, accountability, and a good work ethic. That's all aside from the research showing health and longevity benefits from resistance training. I dunno man, if you work at a gym maybe …

Every man in the real world? Doubt it. Considering Barbie chose to go to the real world over staying in Barbieland that seems like a pretty solid endorsement.

I didn't mean to imply that there is anything wrong or bad about being tradcon. I probably skew socially conservative myself in relationships. In the context of Barbie though, Barbie has always been criticized for setting out a narrow vision of feminity. Hence the big push to give her a wide variety of professions. Having her go "backwards" and espouse traditional values... well, it would probably be more of a novelty at this point lol

It would actually be interested if Ken promised that men could "take the load off" and be in charge for a while, and the Barbies actually liked having different roles. You could turn this into a message about positive masculinity and feminity. I love this idea. I really hope for a sequel that goes deeper into the topic. That said, it's still a Barbie movie. "Tradcon Barbie" is probably going to be a hard sell, even if people like that exist in the Real World (TM) On the other hand, you're absolu…

If you haven't seen it, what makes you think it's a movie for "girlies"? If anything, the treatment of the Kens and their resulting predicament should make any feminist uncomfortable. It's a fair and thoughtful movie beneath all the pink, and it doesn't demonize anyone, least of all men.

I imagine they were converted one by one, just as the deprogramming was done one at a time. Probably Ken (Beach Ken) converted the other Kens first, then each Ken converted his corresponding Barbie. As for why the Barbies were receptive, as one character says, it's like "a spa day for the brain." It's seductive to lay down the load for a while. The deprogramming "works" because it presents a paradox and re-engages the Barbie's brain. I suspect the Ken ideology would have worn off by itself event…

Barbie movie is amazing! And very much touches on red pill/ blue pill topics, as your analysis states. Agreed on pretty much everything you said. On the surface, the movie seems to push a very feminist view, but still it is clear-eyed in depicting the losers of Barbie society - including a very large demographic, the Kens. One could view the movie as simply a gender swapped parable, where real world patriarchy is replaced by a world run by Barbies. But Ken's story especially seems very much on t…

I would say that red pill's main claim is that men and women are different. Different goals, different motivations, and so on. But I think red pill got that wrong. At the end of the day, we're all humans with human foibles. If you want to make friends with girls, just do what you would when making friends with anyone else. Spend some time together, bond over common interests, get to know them as people. And just as you won't expect every random stranger to get along with you, don't expect to hit…

Nice post. I'll just add an observation about dating and self-esteem. A person with low self-esteem is likely to get rejected, which lowers their self-esteem even more. It's a vicious cycle. The trick, I think, is to step away from dating for a while. Work on something else that you enjoy and can get good at (your point 1). Once you have boosted your self-esteem in this way, you can get back in the game with more confidence.

I think most guys could improve their looks by putting on a bit more muscle. Meaning the comparison is same guy with muscle vs without. I don't think it's that controversial tbh. You're getting pushback because people are interpreting your statement to mean that women would pick a muscular man over a different nonmuscular one. There are many factors in attraction, and it could well be that for a particular woman, they value the sum of other factors over muscle mass.

All I can tell you is what it looks like from the outside. You asked for a male perspective and I'm trying to give that to you. What I'm reading is that your ex was an ass, so you worked on your self. Instead of stepping up, he reacted badly and you nexted him. Just by coincidence of course you're now with a hotter guy more commensurate with your new value. This is classic married red pill in operation. Just applied to a woman instead of a man, but in all honesty that's the way it should be. I d…

Yes I agree that's the ideal. Just curious, if it was your partner suddenly improving themselves, how would you react? If you don't feel even the tiniest bit insecure, then fair play to you 👍
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/23 07:45 PM

Married red pill calls this passive dread. Imagine two people in equilibrium, because they bring the same value to the table. Then one of them "glows up," improving their value. The other partner then has a choice - do they respond positively, and match their partner's improvement? Or do they react negatively, and bring their partner back to their level? Maybe there are perfectly secure couples out there who won't suffer from this change in dynamic, but I would say it's a very human reaction to …

I think the question you should be asking is, "is the version of me with more muscle more attractive than the version of me without?" Unless you're roided out already, the answer is almost certainly yes. For the longest time, I was the scrawniest guy around, but eventually something clicked for me. Check out r/fitness or r/bodyweightfitness . I can recommend bodyweight to start because you can do it without equipment mostly. I think what I dislike the most is the mindset that the "other" side is the enemy somehow. In reality, most of us just want to pair up with a like-minded person. Surely, it can't be that hard. More communication, more empathy, more understanding is definitely needed.

Oddly, this is one situation where red pill and blue pill have the same advice. Don't get hung up on past opportunities lost. You've acknowledged your mistakes, recognised where you've gone wrong, and will definitely do better next time. As the cliche goes, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Work on your empathy, but also work on your self. Figure out who you are and what you want from life. Then look for the person who would fit your goals.

Life experience is attractive. The trick is to gain more value from experience (especially in terms of social situations and communication, but all kinds of competence are attractive, or so I've heard) than what you lose in youthful attractiveness. If you were not a looker in your 20s anyway, then it's mostly upside.

I was drawn to red pill by the narrative, the framework, and the lingo. But in hindsight, it's easy that some of its core advice (like working on yourself and developing confidence) is pretty much conventional dating advice. And then there are tactics like "dread game," which sounds fancy but it's just "do this or I won't love you anymore." Even toddlers can pick up on that tactic, for crying out loud.

Red pill claims to have discovered universal truths about relations between the sexes, but then offers up a one size fits all approach. Complex problems don't have simple solutions, I'm afraid. I think one truth that red pill has stumbled upon is that success and confidence are attractive traits. It doesn't acknowledge though that success can be achieved in many different ways, or that confidence could come in many forms.

I do agree that having a similar outlook on life or sharing the same values is important. It just keeps the friction down, and I feel that the more aligned you and your partner are, the better the chance for long term success. As to why evidently unsuitable people get together, I can think of several reasons. During the initial infatuation stage, it's easy to overlook incompatibilities. If one partner feels that they're punching above their league, they might suppress their misgivings. People do…

I didn't say it was logical :) Remember the two mental models. A woman is either a slut or virtuous. A reformed slut who's now virtuous is seen with deep suspicion. The other part that's less spoken out loud is simple insecurity. Most red pillers are NOT pickup artist types who sleep with a different girl every night. When it comes to a girl who's ridden the cock carousel, they think, at best, she must be jaded, and at worst, I can't measure up to that. Re whether masculine romance is achievable…

My feeling is that the desire of red pillers to juggle an endless succession of plates gets overstated. It sounds like a hot fantasy at first, but once you put a little thought into the logistics, honestly it sounds exhausting. Monogamy, or serial monogamy, seems much more sustainable. And if you look around at what the rich and powerful men of the world actually do, serial monogamy really comes closer to the social norm. Sure, the trend is for each new wife to be hotter and younger (Jeff Bezos …

In red pill theory land, people all behave like automatons perfectly obeying the rules of red pill. In the real world, people are imperfect and do what they like. And multi billionaire Jeff Bezos is certainly a guy who can afford to do whatever he likes. Don't take red pill too seriously. At best, it's a guide for certain people with certain goals. May or may not apply to reality.

I'm saying men often have two mental models when it comes to women, one as an object of sexual desire and the other as an object to put on a pedestal. In reality of course, women are not objects, and recognising that is when we can start talking about love. Monogamous with a 'slut' The problem for some men is they think if this girl is a slut with me then she would be a slut with other people as well, and so we won't be monogamous. That's why there's a lot of emphasis on body count in certain ci…

Re hands on learning. I live in a country where apprenticeships are a thing, and there's as many women as men who enter these programs. Some apprenticeships are more gendered to be sure, for example, more male auto mechanics on the one hand, but more female hairdressers on the other. But I really don't see why you'd think this is a measure that would only help men.

This seems to be a very reductionist viewpoint. All those arguments can be applied to women too. Are women not needed anymore either? Perhaps you're saying that men and women are only needed for reproduction? You'd certainly find people who would welcome that argument here. Young men are people, first and foremost. They don't need a purpose given to them, they need to be guided to find their own purpose, which as individual as the person forming that purpose. I'm sure your post is well-intention…

It's the whole Madonna-whore complex thing. Men want a ready supply of sluts who are ready to serve their sexual needs at the drop of a hat. Simultaneously, they are looking for their one and only forever partner, a paragon of such virtue who would consider sex only with one man. These two views are irreconcilable. I think a lot of men in red pill start out with romantic fantasies, also referred to as blue pill. As they get a better understanding of the world, their illusions are shattered and t…

Having a "type" usually just refers to the initial attraction, so it's relatively shallow factors like being thin or having long hair. In the longer term, other factors would be more dominant. For example, if thinness is important to you, healthy attitudes towards eating and exercise is more predictive than current thinness. More than anything, I think a common outlook and philosophy of life is what I look for in a potential partner. I'm not sure how that fits in your categories.

I'll swap your anecdote with one of my own. Not long ago, my wife decided to go to a yoga retreat. Now, our children spent most of the day in school, but someone still had to pack their breakfasts and have dinner waiting for them when they come home. She made the decision to go without consulting me, basically expecting me to make time for this despite me working and she being the SAHM. She was not supposed to use a phone during the retreat, so even if I wanted to contact her for help or advice,…

To answer your questions, I do see traditional masculinity as the target I set for myself. It suits my personality and self identity to be the provider, protector, etc. And okay, I'll admit it, I like being in charge. The price of that is the burden of responsibility, which I'm willing to carry. That said, not everyone else is. And increasingly, women are breaking out of traditional gender roles to bear more of what were traditional masculine roles. And I'm fine with that! I'm okay with alternat…

It's just sour grapes. Have you ever heard a woman go "I hate men!" after a string of disappointing relationships? It's pretty much the same energy. The difference is that women often have girl groups to lean on for support and commiseration. Men generally don't. Red pill groups come closest to filling that void, unfortunately there's a lot of toxicity. If there's a way to separate the supportive part of red pill from the misogynistic bits, I think we'd all be happier.

I don't think this is a controversial view. And it applies to women, too. The sexual imperative is strong.
