Agreed. When I was taking them, a psychiatrist diagnosed me with BPD and major depression. I stopped taking them when I took a break from being sexually active and oh my god...I was angry I had been taking them for over 6 years and no doctor bothered to tell me how badly they can affect your mood. I felt like I could be a normal functioning human being for the first time since I was 16. I tried so many different pills and they all made me feel similarly crazy. I also wonder (not trying to scare …

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think guys really care. My husband has stretch marks on his upper thighs and still didn't know what they were 😂 I also don't care about his stretch marks, actually I kind of love them for some reason...

A small thing I've noticed is that when I feel attractive I'm more receptive to sex. How much do you focus on your appearance every day? It's frivolous but makes a huge difference. Yes, on the days where I wear lazy clothes, throw my hair in a bun, don't wash my face or put on any makeup, I feel so unsexy. It's amplified by having to perform gross, exhausting motherly duties all day. Taking the time to make yourself look nice can do wonders for your self-confidence, which in turn helps boost you…

I'm going to hop on the self care soapbox with the skincare and healthy eating advocates here. Another thing to boost your appearance is exercise, especially resistance training leading to strength training. That sounds counter to wanting to appear feminine, but it truly isn't. My God do I wish as a 26yo mom I had started the habit of exercise back when I had my 18yo body! I might still look 18 lol. Anyway, exercise does a lot of good for your confidence and appearance. It improves your posture,…

Do you even have children? I don't think you're qualified to make such bold claims about how easy it is to be a SAHM if you haven't had any yourself. There's a reason being a SAHM was such a popular thing, and now because women are more prevalent in the workforce, daycare is so common. Children are not self-sufficient in any way. Being a mother is an extremely difficult, full time job. Ever heard of "it takes a village"? Yeah that comes from a culture of mothers who lived close by coming togethe…

She had an affair with Noah Baumbach while he was married with kids to Jennifer Jason Leigh. I'm married with children and adultery makes me ill.

If people knew why I didn't like her I would not have been downvoted lol. I agree, we've overcorrected with third wave feminism. Greta's politics weren't too obvious in her earlier films. But after Marriage Story came out and I did some research, I learned more about how her and Noah Baumbach came to be married and I hate to say that all of their films are difficult for me to watch in an unbiased fashion (read my edit 😬) and I really loved Noah Baumbach's films...honestly, they're both great wri…

Usually I believe in separating the art from the artist, but I have a really hard time with Greta Gerwig films after learning more about her. It's sad because I loved Ladybird. Edit: for those who don't know, Greta Gerwig is a homewrecker. I don't care half as much about her politics as much as I do that her and Noah Baumbach had an affair when he was married with children to Jennifer Jason Leigh. As a married woman with children who deeply cherishes her marriage, adultery makes me sick to my st…

I haven't seen any mention of antidepressants yet in the comments. Does he happen to be on any medications? Those can dramatically alter your libido.

When I first left home I broke contact with my mother and became obsessed with the idea that she was an abusive narcissist (r/raisedbynarcissists is a cesspool). One day, I read a quote that said "forgiveness is giving up all hope for a better past." That was my lightbulb moment. I realized by breaking off contact with my mom and demonizing her, I was just repeating the cycle of neglect and abuse within my family. I didn't want to be that person anymore. And I sure as hell wasn't going to show m…

I noticed things between my husband and I were getting a little shaky after we had our first son. I realized it was because we had both gotten lazy at maintaining things, as life in general just became more difficult. I will take some of this advice to heart for sure. I think my main problem right now is the complaining. Thanks for writing all of this out!

As well as that, you're also putting yourself at risk of being the empty-nesters who realize they don't even know each other anymore. What is your relationship without the kids? You haven't been a child-free relationship in 20 years. Spouse comes first, always.

My sisters took music lessons from his dad when I was 7. My sisters would take me to their house when they had lessons and I'd play with him and his brother. I always had a huge crush on him, even at that age. But they lived an hour away, so we didn't see each other very often. When we got older, visits became more infrequent. We'd only see each other on the 4th of July every year for a get-together. He always flirted with me, but we never exchanged contact information. 6 years ago, he started g…

Perfume, eyebrows, mascara. When I have more time, I curl my hair and apply dry shampoo for more scent and volume. Skirts and dresses are his favorite. I'm a SAHM so I don't get to do this every day, but I try my best lol

You need an extra set of hands. If his job truly is that demanding that he can't help, that is. I'm not there so it's tough for me to make any assumptions but it sounds like even he doesn't help enough, but also, both of you need downtime to fill your cups. It sounds like you continue trying to pour from an empty cup and that is what's causing you to complain. I attribute a lot of my mental well-being to my mom being close by. She comes over fairly often to help me with baby and household chores…

Ever since having a child with my husband, I've realized how much I complain and I really needed to tone it down. Thanks for this post, it's a good reminder

Sometimes, when I'm not in the mood, I try to get over the mental hump (pun unintended) of actually starting, and then while we're having sex I'm thinking "why did I not want to do this?!" The feeling continues, and our day turns out way better than it would have otherwise. I akin it to, say, getting ready for a party, or preparing a vacation. The start is always the hardest hurdle, but then when I'm actually at the party or vacation, I'm having a blast, when I could've easily called it off beca…

I'm 25 and have a 4 month old. If you do decide to have a child...my god, it is nothing like you'd ever experience in your life. I mean that in a positive way. I still get butterflies watching my husband with my son. It's like the honeymoon phase all over again. You would feel things you've never felt before. The full range of emotions. And that first day/night in the hospital with your baby will be a day/night you'll want to relive in your head forever. I will say this...the "it takes a village…

I believe talking highly about your partner to be a habit worth cultivating. Very true! You choose who your partner is...it only makes sense to do so. I admire my husband's confidence and ability to remain calm in difficult situations. I'm a bit more neurotic, so it balances us out perfectly. When our baby was having phases of purple crying in the beginning, husband was completely chill about it. I remember one night specifically the boy had a clean diaper, full tummy, swaddled tightly, and I sa…

I did! I figured the story was long enough and didn't wanna make it even longer lol His dad didn't want us together. He could tell we liked each other early on, but he didn't want a nasty breakup to come between his relationship with my sister (she's like the daughter he's never had). So, he convinced my husband that I was off the table. Newborns are the best, aren't they? :) Aren't they ever!! Especially when it's your own. We love this little guy so much ☺️

I met my husband when we were 7 years old. We are the same age. My two older sisters took music lessons from his dad and they'd take me with them sometimes and I'd play with him and his two brothers while they played music. They lived an hour away. After they stopped taking lessons, my eldest sister kept up a good friendship with his father. We'd visit every other 4th of July, his dad's favorite holiday (and mine too, now). I always had a crush on him because he was very handsome, but I thought …

Very interesting. Something that I don't think is touched on enough is the importance of raising children as a housewife. If you don't want to have children, fine, that's your prerogative. But the need to reproduce is a biological trait that is, in my opinion, inescapable. Having children plays a huge part in what makes life meaningful. Especially for women. That is important enough of a job. I just had my first child with my husband. Not to sound cliche (wonder why it is such a cliche?), but it…
