With all due respect, please be careful when asserting that dog breeding is a type of natural selection: by its definition, it is artificial selection. One is actively crossing two animals that have certain desireable traits with the hope of creating offspring with those same or some combination of those traits. So dog breeding is a form of "intelligent design" if you will (with the dog breeders being the intelligent designers). Natural selection operates by a different mechanism entirely, and o…

Lol, I call it "meat jello" when it wiggles. Grosses out my boyfriend. Thanks for the advice regarding removing the stock earlier -- I usually add vinegar at the beginning, but hadn't considered doing it halfway through. Are you familiar with the book, Nourishing Broth by any chance? I've been considering purchasing it.

I stay away from processed food as much as possible. I eat pretty paleo, although not strictly. I eat lots of fat (butter, coconut oil/milk, animal fats), gelatin (make stock by boiling bones for a long time, add this to soups and sauces), and plenty of veggies. This story brought tears to my eyes. This dynamic is familiar to me and I'm so thankful to have had an upbringing that exposed me to these traditional roles. There has got to be a swing back towards these values.

Thanks for posting this. Even just your overview is thought-provoking, especially your discussion of fear-based versus shame-based motivators. I will definately check this out.

Many towns have a pretty active meetup.com scene. I've seen some groups entitled things like, "twenty-somethings go hiking" or whatever. I just moved to a new town with my boyfriend and I'm planning to go to some meetups just to make some girl friends in my new hometown.

A Guide to Rational Living by Albert Ellis. Basically applied Stoicism. Really helps combat the hamster.
