I am absolutely in favour of trying to do something about racism/sexism/etc. from the past and striving for a world where people are treated equally and have equal opportunities etc.. However I do not think the approach being taken will achieve those goals, quite often I think it just makes the situation worse and divides people even further. I've spoken to lecturers who mark exams that were too scared to fail too many people from groups who receive affirmative action, even if the quality of their work was not high enough for a pass. Furthermore lots of places with affirmative action decrease the quality of their programs (or are you claiming all universities provide the same education?) 1	97% of people killed by police are men AND TGEY HAVE TO MAKE IT ABOUT THEM! If you're trying to see whether the fatalities from police are racist and not society or arrests from police you should really be checking number of deaths in each group as a proportion of the number of people arrested in each group. What if one of the rapists going unpunished leads to an innocent person losing their life? That doesn't change my position at all. 2	I got permabanned from r/gendercritical and called a misogynist for believing men and women should work together to help solve gender problems Just a heads up, linguistics can use quite a lot of maths and probably even a lot of computer science. I personally wouldn't go into linguistics without those backgrounds (I do have those backgrounds but don't think I'd be globally competitive at linguistics either so haven't explored it much).
