We flew with an infant three times. He fussed for about 10 minutes at a time 3 times on one flight, total of half an hour. He was silent on the other 2 flights. we tried really hard to time his feedings for the flight, that helped a lot. He truly was just fussy, not screaming, but im sure it was still stressful for everyone.

Trump Administration Rescinds Obama-Era Campus Sexual Assault Guidance Betsy DeVos Reverses Obama-era Policy on Campus Sexual Assault Investigations

disclaimer: I'm NOT a trump fan. But I can read. And the little troll is literally right on target here. The Obama administration empowered the Office for Civil Rights to aggressively tackle campus sexual assault, and in letter issued in 2011 lowered the bar for colleges to act on reported sexual assaults to a less rigorous standard, one that was below the legal standard. The Trump Administration (his Education Secretary Betsy DeVos) is reversing this. IMO, based on his speeches Obama drove the …

if you lied about someone torturing and killing someone else, should you get the death penalty? I've never really understood this logic. rape is often 2 to 10, and I would have no problem at all with this evil bitch getting 5 years, but that's because I think we should establish a meaningful deterrent for lying about serious crimes and I think 5 years fits that bill. If that happens to also be the sentence for rape, so be it.

in a lot of states (and in my state) you can shoot an intruder if you feel threatened (or you are protecting your family of course). If you set a trap when you aren't there, you can't feel threatened. Once you leave to go get your gun, you've successfully dealt with the threat to you by leaving. That's why I felt they were similar.

The trespass was the kid's fault. Landlord drove away from an otherwise empty property, came back, and shot him through the shower curtain. That's not an appropriate use of force. I'm not brainless, I'm all for shooting strangers who break into your house, but it needs to be defensive in nature, and once he left everybody was safe and it was time to call the police. If the landlord hadn't left the house to get the gun, he wouldn't have been convicted.

a few years ago a landlord got into trouble related to this. A drunk college kid went to the wrong house and took a shower in this guy's rental bathroom. Landlord drives home, retrieves gun, drives back, shoots him. He was convicted.

There is maybe some irony. body cameras are one of the goals of many in the BLM movement, and here a black woman will be convicted of a crime, whereas without a camera she would have faced no consequences. So if she was one of the many people who are fighting for body cameras, there is some hypocrisy in setting up an honest police officer.

lol, im seeing a few comments by people who came to the thread with an obvious anti-cop chip on their shoulder (not you). This woman didn't like that the officer asked her to step away for his safety and went on a power trip to try and hurt him by lying about his conduct. How is it his duty to let it go? He had every right to have her prosecuted, and she didn't serve a day in jail. And I'll bet she never tries this again!

im only talking about social benefits. there arent many other benefits to being married if you both work in the US. You have to buy your own insurance either way (Obamacare rules) and if you're married filing jointly you get to pay about 10% more in taxes, maybe 15%. To have kids, is a great reason, and there are good religious reasons. It might make financial sense if one of you heavily out-earns the other, but that's about it.

1 year to go! where i live, your alimony varies by income differential and length of marriage (and I suspect gender to an extent, but its not supposed to be). rule of thumb: nothing for under 10 years, more for 10 to 20 years, and lots for over 20. I had a friend who went through the whole thing and got a court ruling, that's how I know. But his case was messy because of the way they did the assets. he ended up letting her keep the equity in the house, paid $1500 for a year and a smaller amount …

People should consider having a ceremony without the paper. How many weddings have you gone to? How many times have you seen any of those couples file the marriage license or sign the certificate? Or seen their taxes afterwards and noticed that they both filed Single? Even for hospital visits, just say "im her husband", I've never had to whip out my marriage license and prove it. I don't see why more people don't move towards a ceremonial wedding for social purposes only. (Says the guy who's jus…

White men fucked up being in charge for centuries. Then they fixed it. i mean, while mostly rich white men were still in power, they mostly stopped being dicks to women and other races. Which is why women/other races have any power at all. sure, kudos to Susan B. Anthony and everyone else who made the motion for change and spelled out the arguments, but it was when enough guys already holding any power said, "yeah, they're right" that anything changed. Rich white men weren't overthrown by force,…

The problem you are referring to only occurs when we believe them without proof. If she had consensual sex and then reported a rape, that could have victimized someone pretty badly. I guess we agree on the punishment fitting the crime in a way. Lying about 3 fictitious guys that led to zero arrests had zero effect on any real people. She had no foreign DNA on her, no one was ever at risk. She should be punished for the effects of her crime, which was wasted police resources.

for the same time They should go to jail for a period of time sufficient to deter the act. They lied, so they should go to jail for really, really, serious lying, like you would for perjury. Perjury is 5 years max, and is often mostly probation. There's a certain poetry to going to jail for the same amount of time as the accused would have, but i don't think its relevant. If six months and 2 years probation doesn't learn her, then put her away next time for longer.

yep, I'm agreeing with you. Lots of ways she can survive in this industry, even if she's just an average developer. Software development is getting easier and easier, the tools they've been coming up with to aid development the last 20+ years are really maturing. Large swaths of it are menu driven and point-and-click now, and lots of people with different college degrees break into software development.

as a developer, i can tell you there aren't too many levels to climb before you're no longer developing. At the last two places I've worked, staff does the technical work, team leads do work but none of it is technical, and managers meet and organize. There are quite a few people who want to manage that go through a development role first, but people who love to code and want to keep doing what they love are a bit limited. You don't get to decide how people respond to your assault. 1) Very true. You don't bring out the calculator and figure out which responses will deliver the same newtons of force that she did. 2) She backhanded him. A little worse than just a slap, those bones dig in. 3) He actually slapped her back. He's just MUCH better at it, lol. Edit: Apparently its called the "use of force continuum." its historically accurate. Individuals may not discriminate but take a large enough sample and you'll see some. Its tapering off, thankfully.

It's nothing intentionally malicious for most. But for some, its intentional and hidden behind a mask of unintentionality. And that "some" is a lot larger than you would think. I think its at least 20%, skewed older of course.

trends are undeniable, but the bottom line is that people are individuals that can defy trends, so people should be treated as if the trends don't exist.

in this case, the woman was examined and there were no injuries consistent with her claims. they didn't even get to the part where they tried to identify suspects and she was admitting she made it up. i don't think "he raped me a year ago" usually results in charges unless there is other evidence (people saw her struggling, he bragged about it, etc.)

it certainly does not fall into a category of physical crime right, 32 years is high.

with the exception of agreeing and getting drunker, right? you have to be able to withdraw consent.

IANAL, but this matches advice and policies given on college campuses. These are institutional rules, not legal rules. legally drunk is just past tipsy, and defined so that they don't drive dangerously. Its way before unable to consent. I'm hazy on some of the finer points. "Hey babe, want to get down?" "Ha HA ha, YEAH, shmeecum your COCK astaput!" would be a no-go in my book.

this guy would have gone to jail for 3x what she would have been doing I really hope not. arent our evidence standards higher than this? I understand the need to lower the evidence standard in cases where children are abused but for adults, it would be hard for me to convict someone where evidence of sexual contact is completely missing.

there's a societal cost to letting a certain crime go, its not just about her.

six years will serve as a proper deterrent, imho. its serious time, hard-to-restart-your-life time.

I'm glad you are coming to terms with it. I think false rape claims should be taken very seriously, for the very reason that they throw doubt on real rape claims.

right away I thought, 'offmychest'? those rules are draconian. I got banned for confronting a guy on /r/the_d. Even confronting is support, they say. Their message will say "You must respond with <I'm sorry, I will no longer post on X>, any other response will be ignored." I won't participate on a sub like that anymore, that cure is way worse than the disease.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
