To further play devils advocate, he phrased his opinion as a fact. It would have been different if he said “in my opinion she is not beautiful” etc etc. the backlash is still a bit much though.

If someone waits a few days, perhaps because they are still processing the ordeal, chances are they will have washed off all DNA by then. Point is someone can be raped and there literally be no evidence they can give other than their own testimony. I agree with you that it’s unfair when someone not found guilty is shunned. It’s something that needs to change on a societal level. Locals that know the people involved better are free to believe one way or another what happened. But people that were…

To put it simply. Consider being a jury and hearing the following, I won’t tell you if in this scenario she is lying or not: Girl accuses guy of rape after a party the night before. Doctors can confirm she had been through rough sex and his seminal DNA is found all over her. Guy admits to sleeping with her (consensually) in an interview. They did not know each other before the party and did not exchange any texts or phone calls before or after the event. Witnesses at the party confirm they were …

As in how is it wrong morally? Or how does it disagree with what you said? I agree it’s morally wrong but we can only prosecute what we have evidence for. If you don’t see how it’s a valid example I can’t explain it any clearer.

It’s not and is not thinking about nuance at all. For the defence of someone accused of rape, the defence has to either argue there is not enough evidence OR preferably prove they simply could not have done it (I.e they were out of town at the time of the alleged event). The second example I would agree warrants an immediate counter offensive against the accuser as it’s a blatant and provable case of false accusation. However… the first does not. It can be the case that there isn’t enough eviden…

To put it simply. Insufficient evidence a man raped a woman is not necessarily sufficient evidence that the woman lied. Prosecuting a false rape accusation means you have to prove that they lied.

I can’t give any sources, only my own experiences and observations. But I believe the comment above could be referring to the experiences of many men being that body positivity movement, specifically surrounding weight or sexual parts of the body (for men the penis, for women I’d say most commonly breasts) was really only “successful” in changing how society values different womens bodies rather than mens. I’d go as far as to say it’s even worse for men now. In my own experience/observations, to…

Again, your attempting to reduce someone’s feelings to just “a phase” as if it’s inherently less valid or meaningful just because it changes. Like saying to a widow they didn’t love their partner if they find love again or telling someone that’s been straight their entire life ending up gay that they were “gay along” and vice versa. Peoples emotional and normal state change as well as their personalities, so it’s ludicrous to assume any level of bodily/gender dysphoria can’t also change. I also …

Why are de-transitioners bad? It’s perfectly ok to feel like your in the wrong body, and then feel different later in life after making the change. Additionally to say they were never trans in the first place is extremely offensive as your trying to invalidate their feelings (past tense).

That’s a very good point. If lots of experience shouldn’t be an issue then so should a lack of it.

Something I read about once I found quite interesting. Google: “black couple” And you’ll find the majority if not all images are, surprise surprise, what you searched for. Then try searching: “white couple” About 40-50% are what you googled for, the majority are of obviously mixed race couples. It’s a similar thing happening here. The theory goes that inbuilt bias against any demographics inevitably become inherit to the search algorithm.

I am a man, Worst moment of my life to this day is when I found out my girlfriend of 8 years cheated on me multiple times with her boss, who i was on edge about and asked her calmly if something was going on with him. I have severe trust issues now.

I think it really depends on demographic and the guy… I have had the legit opportunity whilst my partner and I were long distance for 3 years, didn’t cheat and we are still together 3 years after no longer being long distance. I do agree that the current social climate seems to go against setting people up for LTRs though… it gives me a bit of anxiety actually.

I hate the idea that the result is more informative than the action. Attempted murder/rape/assault should hold the same charge as murder/rape/assault if it can be demonstrated it definitely was the intention. Punishing bad morals should be the main goal, not the act itself. The act is only a result of said morals.

My take is people can do what they want and people are different. I am quite an emotional guy but I rarely every cry. The only issue I would possibly have is if someone cries all the time for small reasons. That’s when I think I’d be a bit uncomfortable and put off. Not necessarily because of the act of crying, just the frequency.

Ngl it can certainly be hard sometimes… I find many who haven’t been cheated on just simply don’t understand how badly it can actually affect the entire being of someone who has. This applies to the cheaters themselves too.

Point still stands, it adds nothing to the discussion, is a logical fallacy and is also immature. It also makes it easy for the opposing side to suggest that you have no valid retort and that’s why they went straight to the ad hominem, it undermines your own argument. Adjusted the pronouns to fit the original comment regardless.

Where did I imply I was offended? I was just pointing out they didn’t even address his argument (regardless of whether it’s outlandish or not) and just insulted him even though he is participating in discussion and acknowledging new sides ? Comments like this from bitter people only make the people they’re trying to insult more bitter, if they don’t like it, tell them why instead of insulting them.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/21 04:46 PM

Sorry I’m a bit confused by your last paragraph. Are you saying you thought less of him because of how torn up he was after he got cheated on? Then called him pathetic for it? And that he should just bottle it all up and not speak about it? I don’t really think that’s what a friend would do and definitely lends credence to OPs point no. 3.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/21 02:51 PM

That’s not really what he’s arguing. He’s arguing that the level of repercussions for being cheated on depends on whether your a man or a woman.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/21 02:45 PM

I agree. I think a more useful discussion could be had just around point 3 which I believe does have some weight.

Similar experience here. Even in fairly gender equal circles there’s a tendency to start hypothesising why said women cheated on said man, “he didn’t show enough attention” etc which is essentially victim blaming. No one is saying this doesn’t also get spoken about women who’s partners cheated, but it happens far more in the opposite case. From personal experience talking to people and in particular in the media.

What an unconstructive ad hominem.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/21 02:32 PM
3

You kind of proved his point the last case… most men and women and the media don’t view women who have been cheated on as “pitiful sad things” but many men and women and the media are far less sympathetic to men who were cheated on. And that’s at the very least… there are plenty of times where men are victim blamed. Usually by the person/article hypothesising all the things the man did to drive her to cheat.

No, I’m not sure why you would think that. I only gave some more positive anecdotes, agreed with you on one thing, then pointed out prejudice. I am not a feminist. I love this group here because there are others that share my struggles as a man and want to make the world better for us. However I am a scientist myself and what you said about simply having a female scientist on a study making it biased is definitely prejudice against a specific gender, since you mentioned nothing apart from that. …

I find stories vary quite wildly and seem to be on two ends of the scales. I’ve heard people who know many people in situations like you describe. But I also have many anecdotes which contradict it. So I think it’s dependent on what kind of community you live in. I hear far more about cheaters in city’s compared to more rural areas. Though to provide a counter example to your other point all the guys I know personally have never cheated and I know of several cases where they have had the opportu…

Perhaps there’s aspects of what your saying that are true but I think your generalising way too much. I don’t think all men have an instinctive desire to cheat. There was a paper I read once that seemed to suggest men are more likely to cheat for the sexual experience but women more often report it’s because of a lack of intimacy with their current partner, so that’s where I sort of agree. But in the same paper a non negligible proportion of women cheated because they desired the sexual encounte…

I agree, But you just said “seek male validation” so I didn’t know you mean’t only random men. Not sure why I got downvoted, seeking interaction for validation only in any context isn’t healthy.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/21 10:35 PM

Inherently unsustainable for a relationship that mindset. Anyone who is with the other for validation will always seek more from “higher value” partners.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/12/21 09:23 PM

I don’t speak for all men of course but of those I speak to it’s actually the opposite and they are always thinking about their current relationship. Personally I find women a lot harder to read and that’s certainly why I think more about them. I’m not sure what to make of how little you think mean think in general, my mind is always racing and I never got the impression men were any different to women in that respect ?

Again you are way overgeneralising. There are plenty of people that try to take the easy route. There is some truth in your last statement, men providing is still often seen as an expectation but please try to use terms like on average, often, more likely. Otherwise it sounds misogynistic. Like it implies you think all of A based on being in group A, will do xyz. I’m sorry but your comment goes a bit too far. I agree society usually expects more of a man in the workplace (this is reflected in higher overtime and work hours) but to say women, as a blanket statement, only care about all those cosmetics and not their own careers is disingenuous.

Despite clear evidence that the "toxic masculinity" approach may be increasing the rate of male suicides. Who would have guessed blanket negative statements about a group of people would have a bad effect on their mental health. I’m not saying there isn’t examples of “toxic male behaviour” there is. But even if that’s the reason for increased male suicides, I don’t believe it is, how is pointing that out to people who are at the limits of their will? No one is saying there aren’t areas where men have privilege. This sub isn’t denying that. It’s just focusing on the areas where it is the other way around and fighting against that. For me personally, the best example of this is in wars. Men are treated as expendable by their own governments and routinely by the media and expected and sometimes legally obligated, unlike women, to go to war against their will. A similar sentiment can be seen towards male civilians in war zones. For every media a…

Vasectomies are portrayed and commonly thought to be the male equivalent to temporary female contraceptives and as a result there are many posts on Reddit/TikTok etc (usually from radical feminists) that men should just get vasectomies until they want children so women don’t have to take hormones which in fairness does cause it’s own issues. However I am pointing out the false equivalence since they seem to be under the impression vasectomies are easily reversible, they aren’t. So men shouldn’t …

The asymmetry between being able to be a single father vs single mother (I mean without having a romantic partner to have it with and not via adoption) is actually what gets me the most because it’s not policy that stops it it’s just raw biology, it’s a lot easier to go to a sperm bank than to find a surrogate. So if you don’t find a companion as a man and aren’t that well off for a surrogate your essentially fucked if you want to be a dad.

If we interpret this to be “following gender roles” then this, from your post, illustrates your point concisely: he wanted to follow them because he wants to provide everything for me, and protect me from harm. So I asked him what he wants in return, and he said that he just wants me to love him. This is incredibly asymmetric on its own and it’s something he thinks is GOOD. Very well worded and I agree completely. You shouldn’t feel insulted for having it pointed out. But I have had cases where people have actively treated me negatively because of it. Or phrase pointing it out as if it’s an inherent negative.

I agree to an extent... there have been some studies that demonstrate for example that people with “African sounding names” with identical qualifications were less likely to be accepted into certain universities, with the trend being way outside any statistical error.

I was agreeing with u/Wildercard in that insulting the person is stupid. Which is why I hate watching trump debate because he does it all the time and the discussion rarely progresses. I’m not sure how you got to the assumption that I’m for it ?

That question has a lot more nuance than just yes or no. If forced then I’d say no. But there are certain aspects of the free market, such as the state of the housing market which have gotten questionable. Supply and demand for rentals inherently disadvantages poor young individuals from starting up their lives/careers . London flat prices being the easiest example. My own anecdote would be that I know of many people at university that sometimes couldn’t afford to eat because flat/housing rent w…

I think the important thing for most (aside from the super rich where I believe wealth redistribution is a moral obligation) is being able to acknowledge your own privilege, observe that others are not as fortunate, but still treat them with the same respect you’d expect for yourself. Aside from that though, unless your super rich, there’s nothing wrong. For their to be wealthy people there have to be poor as well. There me be some societal issues with how some people come to be either, but just…

I did come from a privileged background. Well... sort of. Here’s the thing a lot of people fail to consider, what do you mean by background ? If we are just talking parents then yeah, I’d say I am privileged. My dads a police man, my mum works for the NHS, but they could afford to pay my rent at uni (otherwise I literally could not go). Pay for sports clubs etc. But my parents themselves didn’t have a privileged background. They came from working class families, my grandparents jobs were: a nurs…

While I don’t agree that total communism is the best system I can certainly agree it’s better than unchecked capitalism. For me, I think having salaries follow some form of tanh function plus some constant for a base living income, makes the most sense. The base income means no one is so poor they will literally starve or be homeless. The tanh function means it’s initially very easy to get a higher wage but then becomes progressively harder after some value (I guess the average wage). So you can…

I don’t have a problem with privilege being pointed out (unless obviously like in your case it’s misplaced). But I do have a problem when I’m made to feel bad just for having it, I didn’t choose to be born into it?

Ad hominem was one of trumps favourite debating tools.

I mean really we should hope that it’s staged. But even if it is, how is sexually humiliating someone normalised like this? Even though there’s no crime the mindset towards it is still just as fucked.

Maybe the show is semi-rehearsed, that can give a fake vibe sometimes. Or do you mean the video?

Also filming someone naked with out their permission and also posting it are two literal crimes. If it were a guy he would be on the sex offenders register. As they should too, but no.

I’d be interested if there have been any studies into the demographics that pay for only fans. I mean it could even be possible that lonely teens, who can be very emotionally vulnerable as we all know, paying for that shit. Even if it’s lonely men I would still see it as exploiting their loneliness in many cases.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
