To play devil's advocate: Victimhood is proportional to non-accountability and the average r/mensrights user embraces victimhood.

Your entire argument is based on a generalisation which you've conjured up without evidene. Women in the west make choices that men have no influence on, that result in a lower sum total of the overall earnings of women in a country compared to men's.
/r/MensRights02/11/22 12:27 PM

It's not my argument. You're reiterating a pretty common logical fallacy. You can obviously look at any such movement, or group and understand their general views based on the values they share and support and generalize based on that. Incorrect, and I repeat The proportion Q of the sample has attribute A. Therefore, the proportion Q of the population has attribute A.

Precise and labels don't go together. A faulty generalization often follows the following format: The proportion Q of the sample has attribute A. Therefore, the proportion Q of the population has attribute A. Such a generalization proceeds from a premise about a sample (often unrepresentative or biased), to a conclusion about the population itself. Faulty generalization is also a mode of thinking that takes the experiences of one person or one group, and incorrectly extends it to another. source…

Stereotypes don't bother me. I can't change people, but I can change the way I interact with them. If these stereotypes bother me, then I need to go to therapy to understand the reason for this.

Thanks for sharing this with me. I suppose it depends on the relationship with your therapist, whether it be a man or a woman. Do you believe you can separate the MRA and Redpill related stuff when discussing your depression? Or, do you believe it perhaps it part of the source of what might be causing your depression? I just say whatever is on my mind. However, my relationship is pretty good with my therapist. It helps when I'm given questions, which makes me either question, or reframe my minds…

I see a therapist weekly about depression as well. Why do you avoid many subjects? What do you think is this source of your fear of wanting to talk about how you feel as a man?
/r/MensRights29/10/22 07:42 PM

Obviously these are broad generalities; it doesn't apply to every woman or every man, but I'd like to think that, for the most part, it's a lack of understanding that drives the growing divide between men and women, rather than misandry or misogyny. To offer an alternative viewpoint, why the need to use generalities? Why not specify certain individuals that we know, and perhaps make inferences on this sample size to the general population with the understanding that we might by x% wrong.

Yes, but everybody has an intrinsic responsibility over their own lives. If the OP is miserable and isn't a great person to be around, this is entirely on him to sort out. It's usually a good sign for therapy.

If you’re feeling your sexual desires aren’t fulfilled, get yourself an escort. I'd say you should really communicate here. If you're miserable and lonely, there are proactive steps that you can take to remedy this. Also, if you are in a relationship and you feel that your sexual needs aren't being met, you should communicate this honestly with your partner. Whilst they have every right to consent, or not consent to sex, you also have the right to consent to being in a celibate relationship. How…

You appear to be going through a Dunning-Kruger effect here. What evidence have you provided to support your claim? What is the sample size? Country? Statistical model used? I'd really avoid ad hominen statements about your professor here. It's a logical fallacy and I'd advise that it's better to support your claim by evidence than by saying that somebody is dumb.

I have no issue with someone holding a different opinion to me. However to be ignorant to accountability and blame men for women’s own problems is just moronic. That's your opinion. Also, you'll meet people who hold this opinion. There's no point to allow them to live rent free in your head. Also, we live in a world where there is reality and truth. Women now have all the power because you don't agree with the basis of her argument? You've also just called her a person "with the intelligence of a 5 year old" but you don't have the maturity to accept her opinion being different from yours, and simply moving on. I would argue a 5 year old would get upset over this. You live in a society. You won't always agree with everybody. I'd suggest figuring out why you're so trigged by this. It's your issue here, not her issue.

You can't control people. You can control the way you interact with them. Perhaps this specific person was a bigot, but this won't be the last person the OP will have to deal with. A therapist would normally ask such a statement would have provoked the reaction. Also, how does it make them feel. Ultimately, we have an intrinsic responsibility over our own individual lives.

Statistics isn't a science. For most people, it's a field of its own. It has connections with science and math, but it’s not part of either of those. Herein lies your issue. Also, you might need to look into how null vs alternative hypotheses work, and bias of estimators. I believe your misunderstanding probably stems from those two topics. It's clear that your background is not in statistics, or mathematics. Objectivity doesn't exist in clinical, or peer-reviewed studies. What we can do, is to eliminate bias via mixed models, control groups, and monitoring type 1 and type 2 statistical errors. You tend towards one or the other, without the proper safeguards in place. However, there's no free lunch, and with statistical power, you either gain or lose the validity of your data or models. However, you can't be objective. Also, as sta…

Statistically, women are more likely to be sexually assaulted. Also, many organisations treat this as a widespread issue, which affects men as well. https://www.rainn.org/statistics/victims-sexual-violence What statisticians find interesting, is why one group is affected more than the other. For example, the null hypothesis is that sexual assault is equal amongst both men and women. However, the data shows this is untrue, therefore we reject our null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothe…

I don't believe in certainty. I believe in a degree of approximation. What I find interesting is how you use ad hominem in your writing, in this specific example. Do you often employ this, when somebody has a contrary viewpoint? You also state this sub is a place for people to share their views, and I'm sharing mine. I never said that anybody's opinion or experience was wrong. I'm merely providing a contrary viewpoint. Do you not use this method to reassess your own viewpoints, from time to time? Typically, getting counter points can either strengthen you reasoning by making you give more than mere conjecture, or change your opinion to one that actually meets your feelings. That is unless you aren't really listening to the counter argument and your rational just articulates without any real reasoning. I migh…

I'm pointing out the flaws in your argument. Much of this stems, at least in my opinion, from a lack of statistics, sample sizes, how this infers to the greater population, etc. I'm very open to my own bias. I'm also open to being wrong. However, on the other hand, if you arbitrarily lump people into groups, or just call people names, without addressing the flaws in your argument, it might be a testament to your maturity level. Also, the onus lies on the person making the claim to provide the ev…

Yes. We all have a bias. This is the reason for control groups in experiments. I'm a man. It's interesting that you would automatically think of me as a woman, if I would have a different opinion. What you might need to ask yourself, is why do you need to project conjecture without peer-reviewed studies, citations, or the need to address your bias. You have my pity.

The rates at which false accusations occur in my comment, is based on observation through my lifespan. Herein lies your bias, and why you'd need to get a sample size larger than what is already in your own lifespan. You can then infer on the greater population, from that sample, after than experiment, with some % of confidence, on the results. Unless you do that, it's mere conjecture. The Elizabeth Holmes 'Theranos' trial shows how successful such strategies can be - up to the point where the investor realises that he has been swizzed. You're using the hasty genralisation fallacy. Not all women complain, or are classified as the victim, and not all men complain, and they're classified as a misogynist. Also, I wouldn't use the term cohort, if you don't understand what it actually implies. A cohort is a group of people with a shared characteristic.
