Great advice! I’m saving this as inspiration for where I’d like to move my own mindset forward.

Men posting stuff like this for thrills on Reddit is def a thing but I would caution you that anyone would know it’s not normal to be in that situation. If you talk to any CSA survivor or trafficking survivor and you will realize that is a false assumption. The grooming process is how predators create this mindset in their victims.

Yes impaired empathy is a major red flag!! I did not pay enough attention to this and it has cost me dearly: if they admit that they “can’t” or “don’t” feel much or care about others pain or circumstances RUN!

Yes. My ex used to “tickle” me forcably. He pretended he was playing around but he was showing me that he could overpower me anytime he wanted which he later did so.

I have adhd too and I was the wife in a similar situation and I got zero slack from my ex for not keeping everything within perfect condition meanwhile he actually used the same excuse like this dude to do nothing

This needs to become normalized. If I had had this mentality my life would have been significantly better. Now I’m stuck for life dealing with an abusive POS.

Here’s my take. My ex would be wildly generous with gifts for holidays and special occasions…. Always in front of others… (didn’t notice that until afterwards). During the peak of COVID restrictions, he literally did not even remember to get me any present for our anniversary, Christmas etc… also when he was buying me the expensive gifts, sometimes it was stuff he wanted, sometimes it was stuff I specifically said I didn’t want and other times it was items I had to directly make a list of for hi…

Soo agree, just like when DV advocates feel the need to remind everyone “any gender can be an abuser,” true but the overwhelming majority are men! Even the men that do get abused are most likely abused by … other MEN! I think there is something about patriarchy that drives toxic male personalities towards narcissism rather than other type b disorders.

Misogynists are attempting to hijack the anti-hate-speech movement... Yes, quite possibly this is one of the biggest issues of our time and vastly under-acknowledged and discussed in feminist circles. Thanks for this post.

Holy shit, yes you are 100% correct. I want to shout this from the rooftops.

Jfc that email. The entire thing is a self absorbed, self pity fest. He’s holding your shoes hostage so h can try to emotionally manipulate you. Men like this disgust me so much. Personally if it was me, I would tell him to bin the shoes and stop contacting me.

I agree 100% hopefully it didn’t come across as if I think that defending oneself against abuse is abuse. Unfortunately this is so common there is a name for it in literature and it may help OP and others understand what is actually happening to them. And alleviate any guilt associated with it (often used by these abusers to further trap abuse victims)

Read into reactive abuse. Your husband is abusing you to the point where you have to react in some way to assert your individuality and sense of self. Please call a domestic violence hotline and start researching emotional abuse. There are a lot of red flags in your post. Btw I have ADHD too so I know what you mean. But he is not treating you with respect or dignity. He is not treating you like a human being. That’s going to make anyone feel “crazy” have meltdown etc...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
