“Not trying to make it political” but the entire post is about politics. I’m not sure you understand what the “conservatives” have done to make everything political from the half time show to the beer we drink to the way we discuss serious issues. Culture wars impact every facet of life. The way you are trying to shield yourself from political discourse it sounds like you’re probably a little too fragile for marriage it’s not exactly an easy thing.

It sounds like you want a relationship with her brother. Work out something so that you can stay in his life and you’ll have a relationship with both of them. Friendship? Maybe not, but you’ll still be around and can talk through the big things going on in each other’s lives. I finalize my divorce on Friday after a tumultuous year and a half separation. We have a 3 year old. I know all the issues going on with her new house, all the kid stuff etc. but we don’t hang out or talk on the phone more …

Well….there were a lot of accusations and pending criminal charges (long story but the beginning of it was that she beat me and held me at knife point for a few hours one night. She had bruises on her arm from where I grabbed her to keep her from hurting me or herself. The next day when she made it clear she was not going to stop and continued to escalate I called the police and we both got arrested. Her charges were dropped early because she agreed to testify against me 🤯)

I went 40, then I got every other weekend until I suspect my attorney finally realized I wasn’t the psychotic monster that she made me out to be. It only took me convincing him to listen to all of the recordings (and he charged me 3 hours for that). 50/50 now

They figure out the hard way how much was being done for them. My ex is in the middle of a year long “renovation project” at her new house. Wild how much I was able to do without her even noticing that it got done. The “mental load” she was carrying multiplied by at least two now

Nah, I just meant don’t write down anything that outlines what might be used later on in the process. I mean he is talking about her drinking, lack of intimacy, mental state etc. probably best to only use those if and when needed in the divorce process. Leaving a paper trail of the “why” is going to make things messy. If the need to talk about those things comes up, fine talk about those or file motions or whatever but no need to get personal and definitely don’t put the personal stuff down on p…

I also “won” and hate it. She walked away from all the headaches with a little bit of cash. I have to figure out what to do with all the stuff. The house. And then I have to figure out what I’m going to do with my life now that it’s been completely upended.

Not OP…but how did you get to the point where your wellbeing is on the list of priorities? All I’ve been doing is focusing on my son when he’s with me and avoiding thinking about him, avoiding a break down, or trying to handle the divorce process when he’s not with me.

Why not offer a “bonus payment” of whatever the attorney cost for her would likely be?

Yeah I’d be fine if she didn’t blow up everything because she didn’t “want to be a mom” and then fight me for our son. I’ll figure out the financial side of it but I’m never gonna be ok with the non monetary consequences of her actions.

I thought it was bad when I got hit with that a few months after moving. We tried to make it work and got a little over a year in the house before it all went to shit. Now I’m stuck with a huge mortgage and a house that’s bigger than we needed and a ton of work to maintain waiting for two years to sell to avoid being slapped with cap gains tax. Meanwhile the woman who was so concerned about losing her “independence” took off with my son to her new apartment…..

Yeah people who say move back in have probably not been in back of a squad car before

I don’t know if I’m just in the “lucky” minority or if I’m going to find something else crazy out about my wife.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
