I think there’s alot of moronic pop stars but she seems to be queen of the morons.

It makes me think that this person doesn’t know how to think logically, they don’t know how to apply logical analysis to the topic of sex and gender. So any conversation we have is going to be an uphill battle. I won’t find the discussion stimulating, so I just won’t engage with them. I admit it’s a bit of a cop out, but I just don’t have any energy left to accomodate people who engage in a lower quality of analysis.

I think anything to do with reproductive rights/abortion still affects women in certain parts of the world.

I think they’re underpaid because they don’t bring in value to capitalists. I don’t think they’re underpaid because they’re female dominated. They just happen to be female dominated, because there is more of a tendency for women to go into people focused/caring professions. I make this point because feminists often obscure the cause of societial issues. ie- this is about class and capitalist ideology, not gender.

I agree with your take here. Our world, our society is so vastly complex that boiling it down to just evo psych, doesn’t do the complexity of the situation any justice
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/07/24 06:36 AM

Why not just call them Capitalists? That’s a more accurate term.

The sad thing is, is that one of the most effective ways to alleviate anxiety is by checking the facts….

‘And your ex is a full blown psychopath who covers it up with political rhetoric’. God, ain’t this the truth, it’s exceptionally common. Liberal Idpol is a hive of narcissists, it’s like chum to a blood thirsty shark.

LEFT WING male advocates. This means having class solidarity as workers

I read stat once that about 40% of slave owners were white woman. Don’t have a source unfortunately.

I’ve never heard of this trend/idea. Is it specific to a certain cultural context, such as the U.S? Or is it just some weird social trend that’s developed from a handful of people?

I think it can be useful, if you have people who are specialists in a certain field, who cite research and data etc. You just have to think very critically about the information you’re consuming. The tiktoker in the above post sounds like a random influencer though.

Lots of people on the left have an inability to discuss sex/gender outside of feminist frameworks.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/02/24 03:21 AM

The left has a strictly enforced taboo, about discussing men’s issues. It’s a massive blind spot and it gonna be used against them as things escalate.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/24 01:36 AM
10

Yeah their heads explode if you ask for the most basic facts. Like ‘what percentage of men….’ They can’t fathom the concept that if they make a claim, it’s on them to prove it. Really basic argumentation. The arrogance, entitlement and narcissism is astounding.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/01/24 01:33 AM
2

I remember reading somewhere that approximately 30% of slave owners were women. How can you have a ‘patriarchy’, when the supposed oppressed (women), literally own the oppressor (men).
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/12/23 08:54 AM
12

Yeah the feminist movement has always been primarily about adult female>child female…….>child male>adult male (if at all). I’ve always found this baffling. Children are inherently more vulnerable than adults. Yet there’s no large social movement prioritising children.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates05/12/23 12:35 AM

Yeah, I find the galling lack of logic baffling.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/11/23 08:15 AM

I think that’s a pretty good answer. There’s not much you can say to people like this.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/11/23 08:13 AM

Have to disagree with that. Not saying I agree with their stuff, but off the top of my head there is Judith Butler, Julia Kristeva, even some Marxist theorists like Engles and Lindsay German. I think if you go digging there’s a lot.

What the above definition should really say is ‘a system of society or gov’t where the people in power are mostly men’. ‘Men’ as in the plural, do not hold power. Men as a group do not benefit from the people in power having the same sex. The whole argument rests on that clever little play on words.

With a statement like this, thinking of the person who said it (author Margaret Atwood), I think- how did you come to that conclusion? How do you know this is the case….is this conclusion based on thorough research or just ya know vibes?

I’ve also seen it used as a way to avoid facing their own trauma. A previous friend of mine is a hardcore feminist. She has significant trauma from her father, the sexist and misogynist nature of her cultural/ethnic heritage and also her religion. As opposed to laying the blame on those things, which are responsible for her trauma, she blames ‘the patriarchy’. A diffuse, unspecific, all encompassing, almost spectral force. This has allowed her to never have to truly grapple with her specific tra…

This is a great comment thanks. I’d generally like more posts about the psychology of hardcore feminists, who despise men. It’s honestly baffled me for a long time.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/03/23 04:33 AM
1

My take is that many feminists have an extremely high external locus of control. To a paranoid and neurotic level. To many of these feminists ‘The Patriarchy’ is this massive, diffuse, almost spiritual force and it effects and dictates dozens of different areas of society. It being an all encompassing force means it can never be overcome, thus they never have to question their lack of internal locus of control.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/02/23 02:32 PM
1

I think what you failed to point out with the internal locus of control, is that it can lead to distorted thinking, but in the opposite direction of the external. Ie- ‘I have complete control over myself and what happens to me’. Which is just not true. In our modern capitalist society, there are so many factors at play that effect our lives. You cannot determine every outcome.

Radical feminists just substituted Capitalists for men and Proletariats for Women. It’s not very impressive.

It annoys me a little bit. The Examples always used are Aragon from Lord of the rings, Mr Rogers, and Steve Irwin and so forth. I would say these are exceptional people. I don’t think you need to be an exceptional person to enact ‘positive masculinity’. I think just being a decent, normal person should be enough. If you’re not that courageous, that’s fine. If you’re not that empathetic, that’s fine. Being a good quality, average person is enough.

I’m entitled to emotionally abuse you and if you complain about it you’re a bad person. Textbook, narcissistic emotional abuse.

I think a lot of people knew this and had experienced it, ie-that men can be victimised by women. This was one of the first highly publicised examples, maybe because Depp is such a big star.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/01/23 08:21 AM

I think the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case was also a major event.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/01/23 12:41 AM

It’s also part of the reason they (being liberals) go on about race, gender, sexuality, anything to avoid class discussion and analysis.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/12/22 05:18 AM

In regards to women not going ‘pseudo commando’, could their equivalent be the creation of a political movement and culture that often seems obsessed with getting back at men? Amongst feminists there’s a scale of flat out open man hating to a kind of simmering, just below the surface contempt. There’s a lot of aggression and hostility towards men within feminist culture, often not justified. So while their is not a dramatic, bombastic display, their is cultivated, sustained derision and shaming …

I’m not well informed on statistics, so someone may be able to better describe what I’m trying to say. I think the reason it’s hard to engage with averages of personality traits over a large human population, is because their are billions of people in the world. So even 1% is millions of people.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/11/22 12:23 AM

It’s the motte and bailey logical fallacy
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/09/22 01:54 AM

It doesn’t sound like this woman was assertive. Assertiveness is kind, it’s not abusive and doesn’t cause trauma in people. It sounds like this woman was an emotional abuser. Sorry you went through that.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/09/22 07:10 AM

This is a great point. I’ve spent a lot of time in and around left groups. There are definitely very strong norms and taboos. And a tendency not to analyse their own sub-culture. Maybe because they feel they are doing good work to benefit humanity, so how could they be doing anything wrong/ineffectively.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/08/22 05:53 AM

It was one of the reasons I got banned. I was recommending this sub reddit.

Do we really need a new model of masculinity though. Who says? Feminist ideology doesn’t get to dictate what masculinity/s are.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/08/22 01:58 AM
15

Yeah that framing that some feminists use, that men aren’t in touch with their emotions, is pure bullshit. Think about the countless musicians, visual artists, poets, filmmakers, educators, therapists…you name it, who are men and clearly have a high level of emotional intelligence. It’s a bizarre idea and clearly obviously not true, it’s pure ideology.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/08/22 01:55 AM
5

Yeah, it’s just a diversionary tactic. Go on the attack and they think they can distract you from their power.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/08/22 02:45 PM
45

For wealthy women, feminism is used to distract from their wealth and class power. That’s one of the worst things about it. It tries to manipulate women into hating the man standing next to them, as opposed to hating the women who is above them. It has been and is still used to smash class solidarity.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/08/22 01:38 AM

I got banned from there as well. When I politely asked why I was banned I received a torrent of abuse, the mod didn’t even allow me to respond to the allegations, I was then banned. Extremely pathetic.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check out Paterson, sounds great. I’m trying to get more into magic realism as a genre. Do you know much about it, any recommendations?

Initial thoughts- This is a bit of a garbled article. It seems to jump all over the place. It lists a number of psychological difficulties associated with dating and then says that it effects women. When men can be just as effected by this. It seems to unnecessarily only focus on women. Which I don’t really understand the rationale for.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/04/22 01:11 AM

I’m not really sure what your saying, would you mind clarifying?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/04/22 12:28 PM

Agreed. Children are rarely highlighted as a specific group within woke frameworks. Which is insane, because they are inherently the most vulnerable group of humans.

I had someone try to shame me for posting on this subreddit. This is how I responded: ‘I do support LeftWingMaleAdvocates. There are issues that predominantly effect men, and these should be addressed. And amongst left spaces, almost zero discussion is allowed of this, it’s practically a taboo. So where else can people go to discuss such things? None of this negates issues women face, it’s not a zero sum game.’

This is a really common approach I see. People making cogent points but then falling back on a buzz term to describe the cause.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/04/22 01:06 AM

It’s such a fucking childish term to use. At least describe these men more effectively, rather than how an 11 year old would.

It’s completely neurotic and very emotionally unintelligent. Their logic seems to be- their is a tiny percentage of a chance that I could be assaulted and a very high chance I won’t be assaulted, so I must base all my thinking and decision making on that tiny percentage. In Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, they talk about valid vs justified emotion. You feel the emotion, that’s valid, but is it justified? does your emotion actually fit the facts of the situation. In this case, no. They are aggress…

I don’t know if it’s ‘Anglo-styled’ progressives, not really sure what that means tbh. All the progressives I’ve seen pulling this crap have been from various different racial backgrounds.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/03/22 12:05 PM
39

The amount of woke women I’ve seen defending this assault has been astounding to me. Real mask off moment for a lot of them. Like you say, traditional gender norms when it’s of benefit to them. Absolutely disgusting human behaviour.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/03/22 09:52 AM
2

I think a lot of people have an extremely misinformed and ignorant view of physical violence. That it is like the movies or something. As you said, its so easy to be injured or killed.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/03/22 04:50 AM
3

A lot of left wing people will specify that they are not fans of ‘straight, cis, white men’. I did the some sums for a large western country, and straight, cis white men were about 80% of the male population. That’s still millions of people. So I think it’s just a sneaky way to shit on men, but sound progressive and well thought out.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/03/22 08:41 AM
2

Agreed, but then they should express that. If someone says, ‘I just want to vent for a bit’, it’s generally understood that their not aiming for accuracy, fairness or restrained emotionality. But if they don’t say that then I think it’s fair to call out their logical fallacies, generalisations etc.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/22 07:02 AM
5

I think the term ‘Creepy’ is not specific enough and infantilises the person using it. If you use more accurate, less judgmental language, it can only be of benefit to the woman and the man being labelled.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/22 06:59 AM
4

You’re right there would still be some creepy guys. But what percentage of guys have to be ‘creepy’ for a women’s frustrated response to be justified? If the amount of creepy guys was in the single digits? Probably not a justified response. High double digits, yes, justified. I think you’re dramatically simplifying the situation tbh.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/22 06:56 AM
4

Yeah, at the end of the day, gay men are still men and will be treated as such when no longer politically convenient.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/02/22 12:53 AM
2

Yeah, I went through a phase where I was exploring radfem ideas. I used to visit that site frequently. The creator of the site Megan Murphy, explicitly stated that she priorities activism for women and girls. I give her a small amount of credit for directly and honestly stating that, in the modern political climate. But it seems needlessly arbitrary. Why not just aim to assist everyone? Obviously, that includes women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates16/02/22 04:18 AM
6

Feminist Current is particularly egregious. I’ve see the main contributor of that site completely jump on board to condemn a man accused of sexual assault. She used every feminist cliche to back up her accusation. When the allegations were proven completely false, she didn’t retract her statement, apologise or do anything. Just radio silence. Disgusting.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/02/22 01:43 AM

From your experience as a woman, have you seen this to be a commonly expressed sentiment?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/02/22 07:52 AM

Can you speculate on why you think this is? I’m very curious about this.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/02/22 12:25 AM

Yeah I agree, just wanted to highlight their thinking around this issue, as fallacious as it is.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/01/22 04:34 AM
2

I’ve spoken with female friends about this. Their logic was that, as women they are physically weaker than practically all men. So if they get into this situation their chance of not being harmed is practically 0%. So while they may be at less risk of having this experience, if they do, their ‘chance of survival’ (for lack of a better term) is extremely low.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/01/22 01:34 AM
1

Absolutely, last year alone I can think of 4-5 incidents of random, unprovoked aggression towards me by strangers. You just learn to deal with it, because what option do you have? After the last one, I was over it in like 15 mins. I have a whole psychological mindset do deal with it now.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/01/22 01:25 AM

Oh, my absolute pleasure! Thanks for your appreciation. I’ve definitely given up on a lot of cultural left issues lately. I’m more focused on the root causes. What do people need and if so, why aren’t they getting it? Materialist over idealist.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/01/22 07:09 AM

Yeah, if you explore how someone became a criminal etc, you have to look at capitalism and how people are often completely and utterly fucked over by it, from day dot. That’s too hard and too complex for many people and shudder!, you may have to examine class in our society.

Trauma undergirds a lot of people’s issues (men included of course). I’m intelligent, resourceful, just stable enough, grew up middle(ish) class and it’s still been an absolute shit-fight and years long struggle to get the kind of assistance I need. It’s practically impossible for people who haven’t been as (mildly) lucky as I have. The mental health system is not good enough, it’s underfunded and neo-liberal (ie- you need to go to private providers to get the best care). Getting people the mate…

Left spaces don’t really want to approach mens issues at all. They won’t even approach the idea that men, as a group, have their own issues.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/01/22 03:30 AM

Yeah, it can be a difficult psychological state to get yourself into. You have to be making effort towards a goal (getting a partner) but also have enough equanimity and confidence that you’re not too desperate.

Yes, I believe their was a stat somewhere (not sure what country) that said only like 15-20% of women consider themselves feminist. And even within that ‘feminist’ can mean something like, ‘supports women’s rights/causes’ etc. So it’s good to remember that most people are chill about the whole thing. I was banned from that sub, without any warnings. When I asked why I was being banned, the mod messaged back, straw manning all my comments, intimating that I was a racist and a right winger, basically for questioning liberal (and American) frameworks of race and gender. Great point. The way many people conceptualise ‘the patriarchy’ is very strange. It’s both a spectral ever present force that influences people, but the people also don’t have agency because of it. It’s used to play whatever role the speaker wants it to play. Its not measurable and you can’t point to it, only the results of it apparently.

The thing I hate about the use of the idea of ‘toxic masculinity’, is how it is used as an explanation of very complex phenomena. A few years ago in my country, a young woman was tragically murdered by a man, whilst walking home at night. An utterly horrific, evil act. The bulk of the discussion about this event (in the media), used a feminist lense to explain why it occurred. Ie- ‘men hate women’, ‘this is toxic masculinity to the extreme’. This framing shut down honest, analytical discussion, …

I tend to agree with this comment. Woke people often have core, axiomatic beliefs, that all their logic is built upon. They don’t really seem open to questioning these. Often getting defensive if you try to do so. The discussion often happens on their terms. So while I agree with your sentiment, in practice it might be very difficult.

What I’ve noticed is misandrist comments will be made. ‘Urghhh men suck’, and things like that, even coming from other men. If they are pressed on this misandry they will say they mean ‘straight, white, cis men’. So in their mind this lets them off the hook. It’s a bit of a motte and Bailey technique I think. Because they often don’t specify until pressed.

I think a lot of women do not understand how much physical violence men have to contend with. Especially if you don’t live in a wealthy neighbourhood. In the last year I’ve been randomly threatened 4 times on the street, with no provocation on my behalf. Luckily, across my lifetime I’ve learnt skills of deescalation and how to have emotional control in times like this. It doesn’t bother me too much now, I just see it as something I occasionally have to deal with. I also accept that no amount of …

Monstrous is a great word to describe it. So often monstrous behaviours are hidden behind a casual, blaźe presentation.

And where does it end?. Are people of English descent supposed to feel guilty and be apologetic towards people of Irish descent?….the list of examples could be endless.

Yes and another rhetorical trick I have seen used is that if you question the theory it immediately means you do not care about women. Or that you support the abuse of women etc. So you either agree with the theory and if you disagree/question it then you’re bad. Either with them or against them.

I was the same, when I started to view people who are so committed to the idea of the patriarchy as like religious zealots, it changed my perspective as well. Many of them are just not open to even entertaining the idea of questioning their beliefs. And you get really aggressive push back. This subreddit definitely helped me move through this.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/11/21 03:37 AM

I’ve never heard this explanation of domestic violence. I think it’s really good. The idea of ‘the patriarchy’ really is used as an all encompassing answer. People use it in whatever way suits them.

I don’t know what the research says on this, but I think there is an interesting discussion around communication styles different sexes generally use. For eg. a style that prioritises the relationship (lots of validation, gentle recommendations etc) vs a style that prioritises achieving an objective (more direct, assertive etc).
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/11/21 06:08 AM

I think you make an important point about self soothing. To be a healthy person, you need to be able to self soothe. Some of the responses I’ve seen from feminists, (especially when a high profile public murder occurs) has been very frantic and dare I say, histrionic. Like, our whole society needs to be upheaved and overhauled so that a tragedy (such as a murder) never happens again. Without any self soothing via- checking the facts, taking police advice etc.

Agreed. I am always amazed that many lefties don’t care about half the human race. Like, I could understand their ignorance (though not agree), if it was a minority group. But we’re talking about 50% of all people. It just baffles me that people can think so poorly of half of all humans.

The ‘life stability’ one always annoys me. I’ve had female friends who have very messy lives (no judgment, I don’t necessarily blame people for that), yet they will judge a man for not ‘having his shit together’. When pressed, the belief under-girding it is often something like ‘I’m a woman, so I’m allowed to be ‘messy’ and emotional’. But the guy needs to be together and stoic

What annoys me about this term is that it allows the person (and it’s mainly women using it to criticise a man) to revert to a childish, dismissive state. It feels so infantilising. Basically, I feel uncomfortable with this person (no matter how justified that is), so I have a right to label him this way. A good parent wouldn’t even allow this kind of nonsense from a young child.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/21 12:31 AM

As an above commenter stated, it’s all performative.

As a side note, I hate that style of writing as well. I’m not sure what it’s called? Where a writer goes into casual slang (?)- ‘the absolute fucking worst’, to emphasise a point. It’s so juvenile and a cheap rhetorical tactic.

Paranoid, delusional and just utterly stupid. I wonder if these people ever have a moment of self reflection where they genuinely reflect on the things they say. People who say things like this have very serious psychological problems. They are talking about 50% of all humans.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/21 12:15 AM
7

Also paranoid and exhausting. It must be very tiring to believe this.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/21 12:09 AM
4

It’s also the fact that because you are the man you are expected to do practically all of the active tasks of courtship. So you’re harshly judged if you’re only at say, 30% of your best. If courtship was more balanced, the man would only have to be at 50%, maximum, the woman makes up the other 50%. But, it’s more like now, the man has to be at like 80% and the woman only 20%. Basically, courtship needs to be more egalitarian.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/10/21 04:25 AM

Definitely. It either triggers toxic shame or toxic rage. Horrible.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/10/21 06:34 AM
3

Agreed. There are a lot of traumatised, unhappy people in the world. They need good quality, often long-term, psychological therapy. Some people (like a feminist friend of mine) refuse to get it for whatever reason, and some simply can’t afford it. Which is a very pertinent point, and a left wing point. People can’t access the healthcare they need. I guess feminism comes in and offers these people something

Yes definitely. I live in a big city and within a period of a few months I was threatened on the street about 3-4 times. For absolutely no reason at all. And honestly it didn’t particularly bother me, as I’ve developed a way to emotionally cope with it, after having to deal with it so many times.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/09/21 11:50 PM

Fear is a very powerful emotion. Linked to pure survival. So it’s very easy to manipulate people by using it. It’s also not very common for people to really critically unpack whether it’s justified to be fearful of a certain thing. Hell, even suggesting this makes people angry and resentful.

Ie- People who shut down discussion of men’s issues. It’s amazing how they don’t see how they are shooting themselves in the foot. If you deny discussion and don’t listen to people in good faith, they are not going to respect you. They will go to people who will listen to them. They don’t see how their own actions contribute. So much of this conversation is shame based. Men shamed for discussing their issues. This forces them to either leave or internalise this shame and shut down their own need…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/09/21 03:53 AM
15

I agree. Ironically the more you try to suppress analysis and discussion, the more you are going to embolden it. It’s very counter-intuitive. And I think using emotionally manipulative tactics to stop discussion has a limited shelf life.

I’m very sorry for what you went through, that’s fucking horrible and I hope you are doing ok. Emotional abuse is one of the most insidious and life effecting forms of abuse. /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 01:59 AM

I think a lot of men turn to MRA because of the denial and brutal minimisation of abuse towards males (children and adults). I think it’s an underlying core reason for many men.

The term originally was used to describe service workers having to perform certain emotions whilst working.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 01:46 AM
29

I’ve worked in social services. Most people who work in this field have limited, if any knowledge of philosophical or sociological theory. Like, I don’t think a lot of people who use the ‘privilege’ framework, actually know where it comes from. They just take it as, ‘it’s trying to help people’, so it’s good.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/09/21 07:21 AM

Yes you’re right. ‘Incapable’ was a tad hyperbolic on my behalf. Was having a bit of a doomer moment.

Exactly, make disposability is extremely useful to the capitalist state.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/09/21 07:42 AM

Well a Marxist would say ‘material conditions’ and capitalists have shaped our western culture, not ‘men’. How have ‘men’ shaped out culture? What actions does someone partake in that shape a culture? It’s a massive generalisation. Furthermore, There are only two sexes, so of course 50% of the human population is going to shape the culture they exist in.

I’ve seen some absurd ideas about penis size. I saw on one dating site a woman said something like ‘only 9+ inches’. I laughed out loud. I checked the stats and it was only like 1<% of men had that size, or something like that. Shows the ignorance people have about men’s bodies.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/09/21 12:55 AM
3

Agreed. I went to a hippy festival years ago. Many People were walking around naked. After a couple of hours the shock wears off and it doesn’t really register to your brain. And it didn’t heighten the sexuality of the situation, as you said, they’re just human bodies.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/09/21 12:53 AM
4

I’ve always found it so weird when Americans laugh at un-circumcised penises. Like, that’s the way our bodies are born, the aberration is circumcision.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/09/21 12:51 AM
5

Agreed. I’ve noticed this is a common tactic. A lot of feminist arguments are at their core based on the assumption of ‘patriarchy’. So you’re put in a position where you either agree with the person making the argument or you question the core of the idea their argument rests on, patriarchy. which then makes you a misogynist. So you’re cornered. Even on this website think more attention needs to be given to the idea of ‘patriarchy’. I’ve seen people argue in favour of it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/09/21 12:48 AM
6

I never really got this one. What is to be ashamed of being short? I just think it’s strange to tease people for immutable characteristics. You’re basically teasing people for the outcomes of random chance. So many people go to this well, especially when it’s someone they dislike. For eg, Ben Shapiro. Always thought it was truly pathetic.

I think people are slowly becoming aware of men’s rights. There’s so much info available now with social media and our culture is more discursive than ever. The tactics by some feminists to keep this inflatable ball under water cannot work fo ever. And if anything their tactics actually open people up to hearing discussion of men’s issues. As people can smell hypocrisy and more often than not do not like it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/08/21 01:32 PM
28

I’ve always thought feminism is a civil rights movement for adult women. They rarely discuss children, and only when it effects them. I’ve even heard feminists say things like ‘ I’ve had to change my view on men now that I’ve had a son’. Like, oh how moral of you. Now that you’re effected you need to reconsider you’re ideology. Pure narcissism.

When you make something means tested, you measure something that is materially measurable. As opposed to basing your measuring on the concept of ‘privilege’. By doing this you are explicitly prioritising class as the most important factor. This opens a massive can of worms, for many people.

That’s still capitalism though. Even if 50% of the wealthiest people were women, it would still be capitalism. Sex is irrelevant. Great insight. I think this is why radfems often don’t like transwomen. They see them as infringing on something that is there’s/afab women. In their view, something trans women don’t have a right to. In their logic, even not having a right to their afab oppression. It’s a political ideology that is very defensive and protective. And trans women threaten their identity.

Oh I’ve experienced similar things. I’ve had managers at mental health clinics say misandrist things and that women are a priority for treatment etc. Its absolutely appalling and evil. And what is worse is that they get a pass for it. They should be fired on the spot for expressing such a view.

There’s that great scene in the Sopranos, where Carmela Soprano (Tony’s wife) goes to a shrink. The shrink just completely calls her out and says the situation she’s in is of her own doing and she has agency and has made a choice. Obviously doesn’t go down well for her.

This is one of the core reasons that I’ve turned away from feminism. We’re all eating shit in this capitalist society and we’re supposed to only focus on only 50% of the people eating shit? It’s just so fucking needless. Like why the fuck wouldn’t you focus on everyone. Women are included in that category, but also the other 50%. It’s actually anathema to socialist, egalitarian politics.

It’s also the issue of women and hypo-agency. I harp on about this a lot, but it undergirds so much of how women are perceived and treated. Women who get angry at men for not reading their cues are simply poor communicators. Nobody is a mind reader, and no one should be expected to be. They are the inept ones, but don’t take any responsibility or agency for this defect, and so blame the men in their lives. Absolute immature bullshit

Just to add, it’s not just that autistic people can’t intuit social rules, they may be hyper aware of them, but see that these rules are contradictory and do not make logical sense. So they won’t abide by them because they’re completely illogical. I have autistic traits (will be getting tested soon) and I have to actively hold back myself from highlighting contradiction. Because when I highlight it it’s a social phopar apparently

It’s also a survival tactic. If I’m being threatened, it’s better to hide my fear and emotions and just get away from the situation. In a situation with a deranged violent person, if you show emotion physically that can trigger more aggression in them.

Yeah, you can see this after a high profile public murder of a women. The reasons some feminists give for why the murder occurred is simply misogyny. We live in a very complex world, with multitudinous factors, as you described above. I understand that it can be overwhelming but denying the complexity is just not helpful. I think using a feminist framework is not helpful for these situations, it has no explanatory power. It intellectually and emotionally does a disservice to women. It personalis…

Also extreme hypo-agency. I can’t do anything with my own behaviour to help myself so I need to rail at the world and try and make the world change. It’s quite tragic. I think their are so many traumatised people within the feminist movement.

I can see their point as well, but it’s a completely illogical, stupid point. It’s not responding to the world as it is. The ideal would be, have one foot in the world as it (safety, precautions etc) and one in how you would like the world to be.

Exactly! Help people based on need. A nurse or Doctor helps whoever is in front of them. Regardless of sex, gender, race etc, regardless of the persons personal beliefs. The only pertinent factor is if they need help. So a doctor/nurse can act this way, and be held to these standards, but a political activist can’t, it’s so lame.

I think the guys were wrong to be rude when this women approached them, everyone deserves civility. However, it may also be that these guys just did not like her. I commend the poster for being assertive. But just because you are bucking the trend it doesn’t mean that you are always going to be successful. I read this comment as saying women also lose out by the current setup. Like yeah, if you’re waiting to be selected you have no input into what YOU actually want, you’ve cut down your chances of achieving this significantly. It’s also strange, because if you want something (a certain type of man/person) wouldn’t that necessity action. In every other realm of life it’s fine. Ie. I want to be a Nurse, so I have to study these subjects etc, I want to have a coffee, I need to go buy one. So why does…

The therapeutic model of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy talks about this. The difference between a valid and justified emotion. Basically, any emotion you feel is valid, because it exists as a psychological and physical experience for the person. However, not all emotions are justified, and their is a process to work out if it’s justified depending on the specific situation etc. Like you said above, somebody having an extreme and over the top fear of all spiders is not justified, as they aren’t a…

Agreed. It’s the locus of control. I have no agency, the world out there completely controls and effects me. VS I have complete control over everything. Pure victim VS pure control. Both narcissistic. A healthy view would be, I can control some things and can’t control other things. This comes up for some feminists as ‘patriarchy’. This nebulous, ill defined spectral force. It effects and permeates every aspect of life. Because it’s so ill defined you can mould it to whatever neurosis suits you.

I love that one. So 3.8 billion people are trash? Half the worlds population? No, blah blah, straight white men? So like 300 million people? (A guesstimate of Europe, and western countries). Anyone who says something like that should not be listened to. They can’t even do kindergarten levels of logic. I always thought toxic masculinity was just certain behaviours that men engage in, due to negative gender ideas/rules, so basically negative gendered behaviours. But I can also see the point that one of the other posters was making. Both genders may engage in the same negative behaviour, but in different ways. So why not just label that behaviour as a bad human thing, however it may generally manifest in men or women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/06/21 06:29 AM

I agree. There are toxic elements of masculinity. Often enforced by other men. I have been a victim of this. However, just because there are toxic parts of masculinity, it doesn’t mean masculinity itself (as a whole) is toxic. I think it should just be more accurately stated ‘toxic elements/parts of masculinity’. Some feminists label all masculinity toxic. This is incorrect. Some advocates go the other way and say no aspects of masculinity are toxic, also incorrect. We need to be effectively cri…

Here’s my points about left spaces in western countries. -Left spaces are often very ignorant of basic psychology. Thinking critically about human beings and human behaviour seems beyond them at times. -There’s a tendency to be overly accepting of everyone. Not to ‘judge’. This often manifests as enabling of abusive behaviour.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/06/21 11:45 AM

This is from a basic google search: Gaslight- manipulate (someone) by psychological means into doubting their own sanity. Emotional abuse- Emotional abuse can take a number of different forms, including: Accusations of cheating or other signs of jealousy and possessiveness. Constant checking or other attempts to control the other person's behavior. Constantly arguing or opposing. To clarify, emotional abuse can be a number of different behaviours. My point is correct.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/06/21 06:41 AM

There does seem to be this weird, and I would say extreme denial that women can be abusers. It is hardly ever brought up and when it is, it is always qualified, or grudgingly accepted. This fact alone is one of the main reasons that I stopped engaging with feminism. I believe things should be analysed from an abuser/victim perspective, without any gendered analysis.

Great comment. I think you’re right, in that you have to use logic to understand the criticism directed at you. And if it doesn’t stand up to rules of logic you can just dismiss it. A lot of criticism aimed at men and dating, rests on a condescending, infantilised view that any opinion a women expresses is correct. Simply for the fact that it is a women expressing it. It’s patronising bullshit

I had a similar experience. I had an excellent lecturer when I studied some gender units at university, circa 2003 ish. He discussed gender as a a total system, so we talked about women/femininity, men/masculinity etc. Giving them both equal weight and analysis. Because it was so well taught, and approached academiclly by someone who knew their content, I don’t remember any issues arising. Gender really is a fascinating topic, which is why I hate when it’s so poorly analysised

I also wanted to add. I think you have the right approach in not being intimidated by aggressive, argumentative feminists. A lot of these people are bullies and emotionally abusive. If you just directly stand up to them and don’t kowtow to their behaviour, it becomes very obvious very quickly that they have no power. They are so used to controlling people though emotional abuse that I think they have no tactics when someone just confidently stands their ground. Good on you for doing that.

Great comment. The way many feminists treat men is simply emotional abuse. I can’t really see it as anymore than that. The denial of someone’s feelings, the gaslighting, the jumps in logic, refusal to listen to rational discussion, whataboutism, projection, stereotyping and then claiming victim hood when a man objects to this logical fallacy, shaming tactics, speaking abusively then flipping the script that they are the victim. Lots of feminists believe abusive men are created by misogyny. That these men were taught misogynistic beliefs, and this lead to them becoming abusers. A human being becomes an abuser, often from at some time being a victim themselves. Mental illness, trauma, abuse and neglect are the causes. How about we try and eradicate that from society first? Their explanations do a disservice to victims (male and female). If you can’t explain a phenomena correctly how can you propose solutions that will fi…
