I liked this show a lot. I do not find that it portrays men, as a general category, negatively. It does include several male characters who are explicitly negative (her boss, some colleagues, a variety of dates she goes on) but it does include several male characters who are explicitly positive (her father, other colleagues, a few crossover characters). It’s a lighthearted sitcom, but is very well written if you’re willing to get below the surface.

Toxic masculinity is the phenomenon of building a male identity (whether consciously or unconsciously) around the unhealthiest behavior patterns thought of as “masculine” — eg remaining aloof and distant from other men in order not to seem “gay”, avoiding emotionally intimate relationships with women because it’s threatening to access your vulnerability, valorizing violence and physical power over negotiation and collaboration, etc. This kind of behavior is described as “toxic” to distinguish it…

Shockingly enough, there were sex-positive feminists in 1990 too.

It's not worth trying to "debate" them, if your goal is to "win". It's absolutely worth having a conversation with them, if your goal is to learn more and to explain more.

Metoo unveiled that feminists are far more evil than Harvey Weinstein. I am begging, begging you guys to log off and get some therapy.

No. Circumcision isn't assault, or battery, or sexual assault, or rape. It's a medical procedure, and as such, parents are the ones who can authorize performing it on a child. I agree that there is no compelling reason to permit circumcision (outside of the very few cases where it may be medically indicated, such as a non-retracting foreskin) and that the practice of routine circumcision should be ended. We did not circumcise either of our two kids, and I never regretted the choice not to do it …

Oh, it's clear to me why I'm getting downvoted: because this sub is an echo chamber that doesn't like anything that challenges its narrative that men are the only true victims. :-)

Except Elmo is wrong. Arondir: the only one in his regiment who cares for the people he’s watching over, the only one who ventures to Hordern to find out what’s poisoning the land and destroying the cities. Halbrand: rescues Galadriel after the others try to sink her off their ship. Dives into the water to save her when she’s blown off in the middle of the storm. Elrond: thoughtful, passionate, ethical. Tries to convince Galadriel to go into the west, because he believes it’s what’s best for her…

But they did do their job. They responded to an emergency call, assessed the situation, concluded that they were not equipped to safely retrieve OP themselves, and called in someone who could. That's a very common scenario, as other folks with first responder experience have confirmed here. OP seems to have concluded that because they said "we're not coming down there" that they were capable of bringing him out, but chose not to simply because they were "afraid". But that doesn't seem to be a pl…

I read what was in the title. But what was in the title doesn’t match what they said.

OP didn’t say they said they were afraid. He said they told him “we’re not coming down there.” You’re the one who’s assuming that they responded out of fear.

Women who are adults get to make their own decisions about what kinds of pictures they take of themselves and who they share them with. It’s not complicated.

It would be a good idea. The only reasons women’s sports were introduced in the first place was that men were freaked out when women started competing with them and winning. Women’s leagues exist because men were too fragile.

Yes, I’m sure that OP related exactly what they said word-for-word and didn’t distort their comments at all.

Dude, maybe the first people who arrived were not trained to extricate you from the situation you’d fallen into, and called someone who was, and the genders of the people involved are completely irrelevant. Did you even consider that?

That wasn’t the question that had been asked. In general, I think that women are okay not having sex with the kind of men who would insist on their recording a video like this beforehand. Every day, millions of men and women around the world have sex without documented video “proof” of consent, and without getting ensnared in legal shenanigans afterward. That part of the system, at least, appears to be working.

Someone asked why it’s not in her best interest to film this video. I explained why.

If your girlfriend demanded that, before having sex, you record a video saying that you would not assault her and would stop and withdraw from sex at any time if she told you "no" or "stop": would you agree to that demand? Why or why not?

If, after they begin sex, he starts to get rough, and she asks him to stop but he doesn't stop, she can and should file a claim of sexual assault against him. However, if there's a video recording of her consenting to sex, it would make a jury less sympathetic to her. The state would have more difficulty obtaining a conviction even when she was actually assaulted.

Why does it hurt good men to go out of your way not to make women feel uncomfortable?

I’d be willing to bet a crisp new $5 bill that OP’s cousins have read more by popular feminist writers like Lindy West and Roxane Gay than by Mary Koss, but you do you.

The point I’m making is not “no true feminist excludes male victims of rape”. It’s “mainstream feminists increasingly do honor and support male rape victims”. With due respect, I believe you’re the one falling into the “no true Scotsman” trap here, by dismissing the examples I cited as somehow irrelevant. As I said, this point of view is increasingly common among fourth-wave feminists where earlier generations of feminism were less likely to take interest in the subject. Which is why I was curio…

Have you read what actual feminists have had to say on the subject? Laura Hogan: “the rest of us have a moral imperative to recognize: sexual abuse can happen to anyone, even strong, heroic men” https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/13/16644468/star-trek-discovery-rape That article was signal-boosted by Anita Sarkeesian, the manosphere’s favorite punching bag: https://twitter.com/anitasarkeesian/status/930192754751270913?s=21 Roxane Gay’s anthology of essays from rape survivors, Not That Bad, include…

In my experience, feminists tend to be passionate advocates for male rape victims, and argue strenuously that we must keep their needs in mind. When you say that your cousins “don’t seem to understand”, how does that conversation go? What’s happening here?

You had a choice: you had the choice not to stick your dick in her. If you’re not comfortable with the possibility of being on the hook for 18 years of financial support for a kid due to a birth control failure, don’t stick your dick in her. Still pretty simple.

You should have exactly as much say in how your body is used as the mother has in how her body is used. If the mother who’s growing a zygote into a baby wants to continue doing it, then she should. You don’t get to demand she has an abortion. If you too are growing a baby inside your body, then you get to be the one who has exclusive say in what happens to your body. Pretty simple.

That’s why civilized people would say that a 17-year-old boy killed himself after “rape allegations” and not after “fake rape allegations”.

What evidence is there that the allegations were falsified?

That sure would hurt the MRA talking point about how men are 17584 times more likely to commit suicide than women. You should probably be more careful about coordinating your messages.

The reason, which you conveniently omitted, is that women typically do most of the labor at home as well as at the office. In other words, maybe if some of you alpha boys did some of the laundry or dishes every now and again, it would be a level playing field.

Of course it is. In the event of a vaccine shortage, the way to maximize the number of lives that are saved is to reserve the vaccine for those who are most vulnerable. If three times as many women as men die of HPV-related cancer, then conserving the limited supply of vaccine for women and girls is the ethically responsible thing to do.
