I'm gonna assume you don't surf, cuz most surfers sure aren't rich. You get a used board for a couple hundred bucks and you're good for years. Cycling could go either way, but I bought my bike off Craigslist for $400. These are the same hobbies I had when I was making $20k/year as a grad student.

That's not at all what "aggravated murder" means, though. It doesn't mean the person was "aggravated" at the time, it means that some facet of the crime makes it even worse than just killing someone (i.e. the method of murder was particularly brutal or gruesome).

"Aggravated" doesn't mean the crime was violent, it just means it was worse than a standard case. "Aggravated possession" is a weird way to word possession of a large amount, but it makes sense.

Edited for clarification. More specifically, lying about someone committing a crime is not equally as bad as actually committing the crime. If you want to look at it from a utilitarian perspective, which is what you're trying to do here, then in this particular case I think it's fair to compare the act of falsifying rape charges with abducting someone and keeping them imprisoned in your basement for 10-20 years because really they both achieve about the same end result. Any person who blames the opposite gender as a whole for their shitty love life obviously has huge problems of their own that they aren't willing to confront. It's as simple as that. I agree with everything you said whole-heartedly, except the mention of the Ray Rice case. The video is low enough resolution that it's difficult to be sure, but I thought I saw him strike her before he stepped away from her.
