The challenge is finding enough guys who would go. If they’ve heard of or directly experienced the invalidation and humiliation experienced by so many men, it’s totally understandable they would be reluctant. These new programs are often grant-based. If they managed to secure a grant and the service is underutilized, there goes the group once the grant is over.

Age has been touched on - she and I were in same grade. I prefer not to say what school I went to. It’s a rural area and I try not to be too specific on Reddit about my identity. In any case the focus of this article doesn’t live in the town where she grew up anymore anyway.

I’m glad they didn’t name the falsely accused. Media has a bad habit of plastering a name out there immediately, especially for alleged sex crimes - capitalizing on the outrage is more important than anything to them. I know this girl. We’re the same age and went to the same school. Not surprised in the least. Ugh. Glad I got out of Wayne County.

As a woman who values men and my own dignity, articles referring to rape as "romps", "trysts", "rendezvous", "affairs", etc. are so frustrating. Maybe in Fox's case they are consistent from female to male perps, but this goes far beyond Fox in the media. Minimizing and romanticizing terms are infantilizing to women, implying we're too stupid to be dangerous perpetrators of sexual crimes. They minimize the suffering of male victims and encourage victim blaming. They cast men as inherently more da…

Plenty of us do sit, but enough don't to be responsible for the vicious cycle of "squat because the seat is covered in piss of another squatter"

Its horrible. As a woman it boggles my mind how the squatters fail to realize that they are the ones making the seats disgusting in the first place.

From my experience as a 23 year-old female, these attitudes seem a lot more common in older adults than young ones. The following issue is that these older adults (plenty of older men share these views) have influence on younger generations. While there's something to be said for who we spend our time with (and of course the fact that as a female I've never experienced such a situation first-hand) shifting our biases, I've encountered much more blatant role-determination and expectations from th…

I encourage you to read the company's response, directly below the petition. The men's restroom was available the entire time this was occurring and Chuck-E-Cheese's has video footage to boot. In fact, the women's restroom was occupied. It's worth getting the full story before becoming so indignant. You have no way of knowing how the managers would react if he were a woman except conjecture - treating that as truth is a shaky path at best especially with such a sensitive issue. The reality is pr…

I don't need to have a personally negative event or be a man to be an egalitarian - men and women deserve equitable and fair protection and treatment under law, and there are many inequalities on both sides of the equation. Recognizing this and taking action is the key to being an activist.

I'm not denying the actions of my fellow women - I have long criticized such behaviour myself. When a woman saunters up to you and asks you to go rescue her from the big bad man over there ... You say, "fuck you, honey." And perhaps remind her that she's a strong independent woman who can take care of herself and don't need no man. I completely agree with you. I guess my point is a lot of "white knights" come to the "rescue" with no request, with with a plethora of expectations to boot. I've got…

Women as a whole represent 3 billion people. The actions of some or even many do not speak for them all. I don't really care what another woman chooses to do. If someone decides to come to my defense and then expects me to sleep with them, that is pathetic. They made that decision, and I am in no way obligated.

The fact that sex is an expected reward doesn't speak highly of such men.

If you know 20 men almost certainly one of them has been raped too. I consider myself fortunate to be in a social work program that emphasizes men's issues as well, and to keep company with men and women who are conscientious and considerate of reality. I know multiple men and women who have been raped or sexually assaulted and have been able to come out and speak about it. They have certainly helped to open some people's eyes.

Well, the assumption would be to "fail to reject the null hypothesis". When a correlation has been found at/above the confidence rate (usually a minimum of 95%, but can be determined to be higher) then you reject it, but without that confidence (and therefore, correlation) you cannot reject it. You can't just assume that there is no connection though, as a bad study, bad methodology, a skewed sample group, etc. could be to blame, and not the actual facts.

Menstrual cycles are rarely consistent for a woman's entire reproductive cycle, especially with the advent of hormonal contraception. So acting as if it is a crutch for every woman who has actually had especially significant PMS issues (which is less common than many would have you believe, especially big pharma...) is pretty misled. Making accommodations to live life as normally as possible are a given. Using PMS as an excuse for obnoxious, outlandish behaviour is asinine. But the claim that it…

It really is unfortunate how few women are interested in or are educated about gun ownership and use. I am the only female I know with any interest, besides my mother (she has a bear permit, for fuck's sake). I can't wait to turn 21 and work toward getting my pistol permit - all of my male friends are always surprised by my interest, especially here on Long Island/NYC. Many people here have never been exposed to guns or responsible use. Its a whole different world, all within the same state.

Marriage is also hundreds of rights for the two of them and the lives they plan to live...including financial, medical, and child-related privileges and rights. Maybe you should educate yourself more on the legal reasons for marriage beyond your concept of the shared evil of all women.

that's a mangina Associating female genitalia with a man and making that association a negative thing is the wrong way to go about things - it does make you look sexist. As far as I know that's not what this movement is aiming for. I see this a lot - the power of language is very important to consider, especially in a politically/socially charged issue.

He was charged with one attempted murder, not two. Your point which you attempted to make - "men aren't considered equally by the law as women as victims", may be true, but this article does not illustrate it. Maybe following a conviction and sentencing you'd have something... You're unlikely to see many people locked up for life on first-time attempted murder charges, regardless of sex.

If you read the article completely, you'd find at the very end that: In 1992, he pleaded guilty to an attempted murder, two charges of aggravated assault and felony theft. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the aggravated assault and theft convictions and granted 10 years probation and deferred adjudication for the attempted murder conviction, court records show. Ultimately, it's a pointless submission because the crimes are different, his criminal history is now different, and no legal p…

...Or the couples who make it work in a way that is right for them. Not every woman is comfortable in a "follower" position, and that's okay. By no means is it realistic to split everything down the line for every couple - the important thing is that it is agreed upon and functional. I don't "get" what its like to be comfortable as a follower.

There are reasons for the lack of female involvement in political and legal spectrums - these need to be addressed before complaining about lack of diversity. A good area to observe the power of this is in sci-tech fields, such as engineering. Female enrollment in engineering classes has skyrocketed, with higher interest in mathematics, science, etc. More girls are also going for higher ed. in these fields, a phenomenon really starting to be seen in Generation X. People so often look at the end …

Well, to be fair, the classification has always been awkward. LGB deals with sexual orientation, a quality that is not really related to sex/gender. However, having been ostracized in very similar manners, you would hope that the community would be accepting. Many are, but some really spoil it.

I don't know about the legality - I've never really heard of it being enforced legally. As a woman, I think people need to know more about transitions and understand that a transitioning/passing person is not just perving their way into "their" bathroom. Its a complete life change. I've seen women react a lot more strongly to this issue than any man.

Finally. I am a woman and have always supported an equal playing field for parental rights and responsibilities, including knowledge of paternity. I don't know why it isn't standard operating fare already, seeing as the procedure is so inexpensive.

What I find blowminding is that you took my statement serious To be fair, a quick look at some of the posts below yours..."I treat women like toys...I throw it away after I'm done using it" to paraphrase, can lead to a really fucked up view of other posts. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I normally can appreciate the tongue-in-cheek line of humour, but the funny runs thin in here at times as a female reader. Thank you for a voice of reason. As a woman, I completely agree regarding the warped cultural mindset imparted upon women and men in this country. Fortunately, I had strong male and female role-models in my life. My father did not treat me like a delicate, rare flower to be endlessly praised and protected. This is very different from the experience of many of my female friends (what few of them there are). I pursued my interests, rather than what my female compatriots pushed me to like or do. As…

Yeah, sometimes its hard to live with assorted testicles in my life, but I just suck it up and move on. Its mindblowing how, in a thread meant to complain about how many women/others in society talk and are conditioned to think about men, that you refer to women as "assorted mammary glands". Way to buck the trend, buddy. I realize that humans as a species have fundamental flaws, as should everybody. Categorizing it into sex is pointless and misled. Edit: gadimus and I - we cool. See below.

I don't believe those accusing should be called simply victims. If anything, "alleged victim", as used in every other crime terminology where the recipient of supposed crime cannot be verified as such. Preferably, both parties would be anonymous until the culmination of the legal process. Too many men's lives are ruined over the simple act of accusation - appear in the newspaper/on TV, and its done.

My friends see me get all rage-face in the stores as I begin shopping for materials to make my Christmas gifts. Michael's (craft store) is plastered in pink. I've been told I am anti-woman or don't support curing breast cancer. Odd, considering I am an egalitarian woman (who happens to have breasts) who has donated directly to or volunteered time for this cause amongst others, even as a cash and time-strapped college kid. This here is why I hate the huge pink marketing push for Breast Cancer Awareness programs. Sorry, your pink waterbottle isn't helpful. Changing your facebook picture isn't supportive. Saying "save the boobies" makes breast cancer only about the tits, not the people. I really hate this shit. You don't see a "save the prostates" campaign.

Oh good, I thought we were practically speaking different languages here - we both agree. I don't care what the law calls minors, as long as the age of consent laws recognize that its not a one-size fits all definition or situation.
/r/MensRights09/01/11 07:24 AM
1

When did I say that? I was simply stating that the federal definition of a minor, whether it be "preteen, teenager, toddler" etc, is unlikely to change anything about the states consent laws.
/r/MensRights09/01/11 07:10 AM
1

You act as if the federal definition of minor/age of majority is going to drastically alter how the states handle the age of consent.
/r/MensRights09/01/11 06:04 AM
2

That's due to ridiculous state law: most have clauses to protect people from that, including relative age (within 2-3 years, usually), and most states have age of consent from 16-17.
/r/MensRights09/01/11 03:28 AM

There isn't much point unless each distinction has distinct rights. Unfortunately minors (which I think is a more suitable word than child or infant for law terminology) really don't have many new rights from the age of 0-18, with the exception of age of consent whith is a widely varying state issue in the US. Simplification and clarity in law is preferable - if child is and has been understood to mean "under the age of 18" or, in reality's terms, treated like a child under the law, that distinc…
/r/MensRights08/01/11 06:14 PM

The age of consent is lower. That doesn't mean the age of majority is. What do you want the law to do, start segmenting minors as infant, toddler, child, pre-teen, teenager, etc? Technically children (aka...not adults, which is considered to be at the age of 18 in the US) have almost all the same rights/lack there-of from infancy-18.
/r/MensRights08/01/11 09:57 AM

Anyone can be raped at any age, so that point is bullshit. As for your other point, the age of consent in NY is 17, which is why the sentencing was different.

I wasn't defending anything about women, simply pointing out how pointless generalization is. See it as you will. Preferably you'll realize how useless generalizations are for everyone, especially in gender relations. All they serve to do is foster bitterness and an us-against-them mentality. That has nothing to do with women or men, just common sensibility. You're not going to get any women to support you or see your side of things if you paint us all with the same brush.
/r/MensRights18/10/10 12:59 PM
2

You may be an exception, but most women couldn't care less about the rights of men. Hey guys! Isn't the generalization game super-fun? Let's all play! Who are "most women"? How do you know what they care about? I'm willing to bet you don't have anything to fairly represent the over 3 billion women in this world, and should probably refrain from making such sweeping statements. Making statements like that with no back up other than your "personal experience" makes you look silly. It's just as unb…

You failed to address my point. You act as if one cannot be a feminist and believe in equality for all sexes. Telling me about an act created by feminists doesn't prove your part, I'm sorry. I can look at politics and easily generalize Republicans, Democrats, etc. by the things going on in law. Does it mean that they accurately represent all who may identify under that blanket label? Labels are convenient, but they are not necessarily accurately definitive. The majority of feminists in this nati…

This is why I have a problem with this mismatch. Yes, I think that rape accusers should be able to maintain anonymity. However, innocence until proven guilty is pointless if the media witch hunt begins the moment the name is released.

Abuse of the justice system in this manner, as well as defamation and libel should be swiftly and sternly handled in every case of false rape charges.

Not if their parents have any common sense. Men and women who buy these clothes for their children are idiots. They can say NO, as well as discuss the reasons. Girls want respect and equality? It doesn't come through demeaning boys.

I completely agree with your choice. I'm glad to see that you thought about it objectively and really considered all of the pros and cons, rather than just going with the familiar. You are the parent, and your word should be good - just make sure to clarify before the birth to be absolutely sure. Its an every day issue for the staff, and you needn't fear asking questions.
