I have peace of mind for the first time in years I’m actually saving money and not living paycheck to paycheck. My anxiety is much less I have time to pursue hobbies and skills that I couldn’t when I had to take care of my ex.

Filed for divorce a while ago now just answering Ops question. But yes I gave up far too much to make a toxic relationship work.

Nothing that I said was important was ever given priority i paid for her degree and a trade certificate with the expectation that she would go to work afterwards so i could work part time and get my own degree finished… that never happened. I was constantly told I wasn’t doing enough around the house when I was working 80 plus hours a week and she was at home full time by her choice. She spent money faster than I could make it on I don’t even know what then blew up on me for buying a gas station…

At the time I was extremely upset and didn’t want to do something drastic. So for my safety and continued freedom I left. I’m aware it wasn’t the smartest move but at the time it was the only option I felt would avoid violence.

Wait dude just wait… 1 the courts may consider it infidelity and that fucks you across the board 2 youre an emotional mess right now whether you want to admit it or not. My dad in his last couple divorces started dating right away and to nobody’s surprise except perhaps him married his rebound and got divorced again.

Yup been rough going through this whole process and while I have some resources to lean on many don’t. I feel like an app that streamlines how to get the paperwork together and some basic coping/therapy skills mixed with links to online communities like this one can go a long way to keeping more of us from becoming statistics.

First is to lay some ground rules while cohabitating and hope she’s a decent enough person to abide by a reasonable set of boundaries and try to either get her out or yourself out whichever works best for you. Second is to disconnect all accounts and finances from each other.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
