For 95% of people this is true. If you're an Olympic athlete it's easy to overtrain yourself into a trip to the acute care ward. Enough exercise induced cortisol and you'll be lucky to still have an immune system. But for beginner and intermediate lifters the cure for too much weight is more food and rest, not less weight.
