It's a reaction thing, people were more anti-democrat than they were pro Trump. You are a different gender if your internal sense of gender identity doesn't match your assigned gender Noone is assigning anything at birth, an observation is made about the baby's genitals and their sex. Making a word up to describe yourself and be mad that someone doesn't use it seems like kindergarten stuff to me, I can't fathom correcting my professor in academia to call me "zir" instead of "he" and then schooling him on gender theory, seems pretty self absorbed. I quite disagree with the pronouns issue first and foremost because it became an issue exactly because people started mandating to others to call them silly things like "xir/xer" etc, having hysterical reactions to whoever didn't and people were even fined for using the "wrong" pronoun to address someone.
