Because technically a given black guy is mathematically more likely to be a murderer given no other information, but the point is it's a difference between "that white guy has a 0.023% chance of being a murderer" and "that black guy has a 0.03% chance of being a murderer." Yes, statistics are all there is, and stereotyping can be useful, but that does not mean that any given use of statistics to come up with a stereotype is logical or useful. And the problem with the profiling mentioned here is that it is taking one statistic e.g. given a murderer, there is a higher than expected chance that they are black, and making the profile e.g. given a black man, there is a higher than expected chance that they are a murderer.
