But just ask yourself this simple question: would you refer to your sister / daughter / mother / grandmother as a female in general conversation? e.g. “My mum cooked me dinner last night, she’s a wonderful female.” If your answer is no, then think about why that is. When creating that form the tester doesn’t necessarily know your age, so asking a 6 year old if they are a man or a woman would be incorrect. On a similar line we also use male and female to define animals when we don’t know the correct term for them. However in common English (and every other language) we have words to describe female humans. So ‘female dog’ as you mention is correct because it’s describing the dog. Also bitch for a female dog is fine, as you say it’s the correct term. I’m not being sensitive, just grammatically accurate.
