I'm sorry to hear that, man. Apps suck either way I suppose. Sometimes we can be lucky there, regardless of whether you're looking for friends or romance.

I wonder what are you looking for on the apps: just friends, a romantic partner, or does it not matter for you? Because I read your story as "I also like making friends on the apps, and that's way easier and as cool!" That's great for you of course! However, for me (and I think many others), I am looking for a romantic partner, not just another friend. I have a lot of friends already, and mainly struggle to find time for them next to my work, hobbies and family. I am looking for someone I can do…

To those reading this and thinking to start a "fair argument" with OP: please be aware that OPs post could be a text-book example of both unfair generalizations and creating a strawman. It is no use discussing the content when their arguments are constructed like this. In my view, the post is also in bad faith, but as I do not know OP, it is merely my suspicion. I'll leave it to the mods who, at this moment, seem to hold a different opinion than me.

Both men and women can be absurd, so I feel we're just arguing some weird strawmen (or strawwomen). Example from my personal experience; I had a girl reject me in my student days when she stood me up for a 2nd or 3rd date as she didn't like my date plan (didn't tell me of course). When I said "ok, best of luck in the future", I had her on the phone in tears as she wanted pushback for being unreasonable by not showing up for our date. She believed men should 'fight' for a girl, and overcome her w…

I guess we agree the guy who doesn't read profiles as part of a power play is weird, to say the least. But it seems you use it as an argument to say "men are struggling in dating due to their own weird behaviors", which is what I firmly disagree with. It seems a weird generalization of this one guy you keep referring to.

As your post focuses on online dating: men struggle a lot more than women. Think fewer matches, fewer likes received, receiving less messages while sending out more (see, e.g.: https://www.swipestats.io/blog/tinder-statistics). Whether you've read the profile isn't going to change your likes or matches received. Anecdotally: when I started with dating apps, I read profiles in full. Then I experienced my match rate as an average guy was extremely low regardless of what I did, so I decided to spee…

Not what I meant nor what I said. But sure, the analogy of single, childless men being priests doesn't hold up in all aspects -- these men do not usually have the power and respect priests have in church. What I am trying to say is that these men feel like they are missing out on (usually romantic) relationships and could use support. When facing the choice of following hateful misogynist influencers (we all know the names) versus supporting positive feminism, the choice is not as obvious. The m…

Is atheism offering nothing in terms of worldview? Religion has a history of keeping people under its control, so atheism offers the view that people should have freedom of choice. Atheism becoming accepted means people no longer have to adhere to a set of religious rules, benefitting both men and women. (I'm not saying religion is all bad or evil, as the set of rules do often come with a connected supporting community - it's just not for me.) Asking single, childless men to be feminists is aski…

Fine, I will take the bait. My TLDR why anyone should date anyone: because life is more fun when sharing it with someone close, plus advantageous in terms of finances and sharing responsibilities. And ofc, if one would want kids, that's very difficult on your own. But ofc, if you don't want to date, don't date. Who cares? As for your critiques: 1. Bad in bed: everyone is bad in bed at the start of a relationship. Everyone has different stuff they are into. Communicate with and listen to your par…

I am not saying money doesn't matter, but you are from an environment in which money matters a lot and you probably overestimate the importance of money as a result. Job in finance, friends' family with prestigious careers, and education at a private school. So simply put, your environment will probably judge you if you came home with someone who is unemployed, and money is a status symbol in this life style. For me: I have a somewhat similar background with a PhD in finance, but I (29M) decided…

For a maths teacher, you seem to be relying way too much on a single average. After a quick google search: https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/the-ideal-number-of-sexual-partners-for-men-women#:~:text=A%202017%20survey%20of%202%2C180,average%20of%208%20sexual%20partners. Interestingly, the median for man or woman is no more than 4 partners no matter the age group (age statistics of the 2014 study), i.e. about 50% of people report having 4 or less sexual partners. On the page itself, it talks …

Dude, I am not saying the article is perfect, and I disagree with that part too. You're cherry picking from the article. Even though an author raises a silly point, the cited sources can be valid and interesting. Such as: "research from 2017 found that 50% of autistic participants were in relationships compared to 70% of neurotypical participants." But sure, keep trolling if you want. Rather hear what you want to say instead of BS stats and dodging the question when called out for it.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/03/23 07:04 PM

Please don't make up bullshit and spread it. If you just google "How many autistic men never have relationships?", you can just click any link and see you made up your point. See, for example, just the first link when googling the aforementioned: https://psychcentral.com/autism/autism-and-relationships#4 So, do you have an actual point, or are you just a troll?

Fair, though in a context in the discussion of a post on dating as someone with autism, and someone pointing out the issue of having nothing in common with others, it feels weird to make your point if it has no relation to the discussion from OP. But maybe I am replying to the wrong person then. It makes me wonder what the person you replied to means with the comment on no common interests. Are people with autism then just doomed to be unable to date?
/r/PurplePillDebate16/03/23 02:50 PM
1

I hate this suggestion. Somehow it is okay to say this to people with autism, but in any other context it sounds ridiculous or inappropriate. If someone says "someone with background X can only match with others who have X too", it is a big no no, definitely if you are not someone with X yourself. For example, use a traumatic experience ("people who were raped should only date people who were raped as they have things in common"), other handicaps ("people who are in a wheelchair only match truly…

Seems bit of a stretch that they are able to control for it. Age is a huge factor in determining wage, education and such when comparing 16/18 year olds versus people in their 30s. Controlling for income actually gives other issues. Then you are probably comparing teenagers from a wealthy family versus adults from a socially poorer background.
/r/BlackPillScience21/02/23 12:09 AM
2

Eh, I'd be much more careful with such conclusions, especially as the authors themselves do not interpret their data in this way -- probably meaning the conclusion would be inaccurate. For example, it is not hard to imagine that teenage parents are poorer/lower educated and less likely to go test their child for autism. "access to getting diagnosed" is an important factor, which is frequently overlooked (more of a thing when comparing number of diagnoses over time or between different countries)…

I somehow felt called out while reading that, while I'm "only" 29. Fair play to you. I think anyone in this sub is either here out of sheer curiosity, or because they had no good experiences in their youth.

Happy to see academic studies being used in a discussion -- it is better than the "in my experience" or "I have a friend who told me". However, a comparison of self-reported numbers between different individuals is absolute nonsense. It only works if a 6 in my book is also a 6 in your book. And with many different standards of living, this is very unlikely. Even one's own judgment of their life fluctuates over time. In fact, one can influence it based on questions that are previously asked. If I…

TLDR: Isn't this post mainly complaining about some weird ideas that both genders have (#2 & #3) and creates a strawman of different opinions from different people combined into one hypothetical to make it a "gotcha!" (#4 & #5)? If curious, my thoughts on your 5 conflicts: #1: This is the only conflict I can really see tbh. Agreed that many people just complain as they want to be picked. (However, I think people are bad at making choices, but I'll save you the anecdotes of my friends and I.) #2:…

To answer this jokingly question seriously (while remaining anonymous): born and raised in western (continental) Europe, but recently also lived in Scandinavia for about five years. Both countries I've lived in are about the same, women are rather demanding in who they date, and someone 10 years older than them is 95% of the time a big nono.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/10/22 08:47 PM
1

That's a cool saying. I should perhaps go to that area then, as women in my area seem not so keen on sex in general and more focused on their careers. When they are interested in dating, they take things slow. (That's okay ofc, but to me it is weird that young women seem to be seen as "easy" by some others.)
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 10:40 PM

Those men must have mad game if they are able to land much younger women. I can't imagine a 20-something women being interested in an older, taken man. Those young women generally do have better options and can take care of themselves financially as well men with those types of incomes Ig. Edit: adding in your edit that these women are relatively poor, kinda makes it a financial issue, no? So then these men with 60K/year are rich for that area.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 10:30 PM

Can we just ignore the older men who prance around with younger women for the same reason then in this argument? They are most likely rich too, and/or hold "no relation to normal people of society". Then we can say both men and women are normal, caring people. Nice, isn't it?

The more I see these discussions on women's standards, the more I realize this isn't about some objective measure as income, education, political preference etc. Those factors can only be turnoffs, so being poor, being low educate, or supporting the wrong cause can push a women away. Have a good income, being well educated and average looks isn't going to magically get women. So you can be average or above in all aspects, but if you don't know how to flirt, do online dating or cold approaches, o…

I don't think we disagree on the fact that being sexualised when it is not wanted is an unpleasant experience, but where we disagree is how big of a deal it is. But I get it, that's easy for me to say who has never nor ever will experience the other side of it. I do disagree on discussing this issue as a thing that men do to women -- for example, women amongst themselves do a pretty good job regarding judging on looks or focusing on choices related to their sex life. You presented it as somethin…

What I am trying to say is that 99.9% of the people do not care about you or me, and if one is going to want to get positive appreciation from strangers or acquaintances, they're gonna have a bad time. I can see that not everyone appreciates the compliments or attention merely focused on their physique, whether it be their breasts or their abs. However, my point is that the realistic alternative to that questionable attention isn't suddenly getting positive attention, it is no attention. So I ca…

Sure, in the non-western world women's rights and their status is absolutely sad and it should be better than that. My point was about the western, first world. Then your point doesn't hold. Women in their 20s and 30s are generally higher educated than their male counterparts. Women can hold their own here pretty well there, and feeling sad for having their looks instead of skills acknowledged is a first world problem. I believe no one's skills are being acknowledged or taken for granted these d…

I get the sentiment of feeling shitty just because you're valued for having good looks and not other skills or your personality. But it is definitely a first world problem. As someone who does not have the issue of being oversexualized: you don't get magically valued for your skills/personality without the good looks. Hardly anyone gets valued unless you really make an impact that (almost) changes the world. I'm about to get a PhD in finance, did volunteering work with asylum status holders, I'v…

Exactly this. Plus, not doing this experiment saves both me and the desperate men on a dating app some valuable time. Can't imagine anyone would be any happier or wiser creating/dealing with useless fake dating profiles - there are enough bots and validation seekers on OLD already.

Oh, just be chill? My goodness, why didn't I think of that? Why have I been acting like a wild caveman, stressing everyone out, making too big gestures to women, asking them to marry me after the first date? Thanks for opening my eyes! \s Tbh, this is the same demeaning advice people who date unsuccesfully usually get, like "be interesting", "practice good hygiene", "be fit", et cetera. Exactly this. I can already see the scenes with her being "empowered" for using her freedom to fuck the hot guy. Probably also with arguments with the beta partner eventually begging on his knees to be forgiven for having problems accepting her past initially. Because that is all what relationships should be about, right? Women doing whatever gives the tingles, and a guy just chasing her approval and hoping to be part of what causes her tingles. \s

It saddens me that you are considered evil, when you say something like: "okay, I do my stuff my own way and you do you. I will not obstruct you, and just let you be." We cannot win in this discussion with strong independent victims and we will always be seen as bad side. If I believe they are strong and independent, that they don't need me whatsoever, and I let them do their own thing, I am not helping a victim by not actively reaching out to them. If I believe they are a victim, I am mansplain…

On MGTOW, the Irish Examiner writes: These men actively avoid interaction with women, from zero contact to advocating the Pence Rule (named after US vice-president, Mike Pence, who refuses to have one-to-one meetings with any woman who is not his wife). Yeah, this is pure evil right? Totally justifies the links to mass-shootings and terrorism that is made throughout the article.

I suppose the author is opposed to feminism? Or does the author think one group should put the other on a pedestal, by holding the door, giving up the seat and sending flowers for no reason... while somehow remaining equals? Either be an equal and accept that people are not going to give you a special treatment, or admit you just want to be a spoiled doll put on a pedestal.

I know the feeling, and I think it is because everyone around me is in a relationship that works for them, and they need a relationship in order to be happy. By default, they assume everyone does. They generally do not understand that some people do not need a partner to be happy or to feel complete: some people are perfectly okay with going their own way. Personally, I've tried looking for a relationship for almost 10 years. I've met different women. I've tried having different approaches/views…

"Are people unable to live their lives without showing off all the time?" Yes, they are unable to live without. Most people believe that travelling is a sign of wealth and wisdom, and make it "part of their personality". I even watched a video where a guy was in Tokyo and he said "look at this place. It looks like literally any other city. I flew 13 hours for this." I know the feel. I moved from a West-European country to a Nordic country for work, and travel frequently for work. Many friends te…

If they had the means Sure, and if I was a billionaire, I'd work less and live differently too. Fact is, they don't have the means, and money from tourists helps them. Perhaps in an ideal world, they would not need to resort to these actions, but this world is not ideal. Respecting some moral principles in this case does not help them either: money, food and a decent life will not magically appear when the sex tourists disappear.

So? Is there any problem with that? Being immoral (in my book) means your actions or beliefs are conflicting with common or traditional moral principles. A lot of principles are BS, and often used by some to pursue their own best interest. People will screw you over it makes themselves better or happier. So if he flies to Thailand to make use of what is offered, he is just a customer making use of a service. That is not more immoral than people buying clothes of brands using child labor, or buyi…

I find it funny that people who use “who hurt you”, don’t realize that statistics from large samples (e.g. worldwide divorce rates) are a strong indication that relationships for men nowadays are disasters.
