It was that or 50/50 + alimony + court costs, I ran the numbers as best I could tell, it would be cheaper by a lot. I lost a lot (house was worth a bit) and 20 years of paying off the house. I bought a new house, in the last 3 years I made back all the equity and some. She goes off with a fully paid off condo and car, hope everything works out for her. I don't have to deal with 15 years of alimony payments which would have killed me. Did I get a better deal, who knows, you at the judges mercy an…

I like that idea, if you don't renew, you become unmarried.

I still say marriage licenses should cost $20K, will make people think twice and the money should go towards the divorce.

That sounds like a solid plan, just make sure you stick to it because a lot of guys don't. Let's get married, Why ? Because

Wow, yeah in cali I heard alimony is for life which she likely was hoping for. I am glad the law was on your side.

Do what fits into your values, just don't marry or move in with them. I am like you, I don't just want to sleep with any girl or have sex, it is meaningless. Start a LTR with someone but set boundaries but be open and honest with them and your profile. I could have had sex with loads of girls, my friends did but it was just empty, I found a girl who was like me, wanted a relationship but nothing serious, we have been dating for almost 2 years, we don't live together, we lead independent lives an…

Yeah funny how that is .. I am dating and it is meh .. I bet if I didn't have a g/f I would want one .. catch 22 I guess.

How old are you, I have been separated for 2 years and loving it, in fact it just gets better with time. I have a g/f and we live in separate houses. When she wants sex she comes over. I have zero financial responsibilities for her. I will never get married again (married for 20 years) and don't think I want to live with anyone either but I am open to living with someone maybe down the road, but not at least for 5 years or so. Life for me is great, I love been free after been married for so long…

How long were you married for, how long do you have to keep paying her .. the laws are criminal against men .. lots of men have gone bankrupt .. never marry again

It’s always been a business transaction. It’s literally a contract. If it was just about love, why would the the government need to be involved at all. It’s effectively relationship insurance.Marriage is an antiquated tradition that needs to be abolished in its current form. Atleast give people the option to end or renew the marriage after certain time periods. 3 years, 6 years, whatever. It would make FAR more sense. We should be able to buy divorce insurance like life insurance so when my wife t…

Yup, they see us as opportunities and they get us the first time we learn the hard way, the 2nd time shame on me ... won't happen, we way smarter now, women still think they can control us with sex and we will stay and they so wrong .. if I ever allow someone to move in with me again, we going to lawyers first, $3K is a small price to pay up front .. never again will I get married .. women think they smarter, but they really not

What about cohabitation agreements. I had no choice, I would of lost a lot more if we went to court and I was paying alimony for 20 years or more. Unfortunately I was married for 20 years and the courts won't be lienient plus I am a considerable earner compared to her, so yeah I lost a lot but I could have lost a lot more. Half the house was hers regardless so I lost say $350K. If I went the other route, I probably would have lost close to 600-700K. I am not sure which way I would of lost more a…

lol, I am not convinced money brings people happiness but maybe it does who knows. but yeah ouch and she didn't contribute a cent to the mortgage .. life lessons.

Why get married, don't .. there is absolutely no reasons to get married. If you do, make sure you get a prenup or a cohabitation agreement before you move in, this is critical and she needs to agree to do it. Protect your assets, and yes you right at the end of the day is a business transaction and nothing more. My X took me for over $700K, I will never let another women take my house from me ever .. no agreement, they can walk, you need to be smart and do the same. If she disgarees walk. If the…

Divorce is both painful and expensive, so open marriage might be a better option, but also the longer you wait the more alimony you might have to pay. Run the numbers so you can make an educated decision. I am 48 and wife started cheating, was a very dark period for me, but at the end of the day I was like you, it was sexless and she just wanted to sleep with other people which she did. At the same time I met a girl and sex is a little weird, can't finger her, only done missionary so far, but it…

Its funny how a piece of paper can ruin things and allow people to take financial advantage of each other ..

Dude she cheated, get rid of her. Lawyer up, once a cheater always a cheater. Why are you even considering staying with her .. the long you were her, the more alimony etc .. do the right thing and divorce her cheating ass now .. do NOT stay with her and do NOT feel sorry for her, throw her onto the street where she belongs.

Why did you marry here after 11 years, why not remain single ?

If she earns more than you, she may need to pay you alimony, I agree, use the 50K and lawyer up instead .. you won't get much. Congrats on doing a prenup, if done right it will have some value.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
