To simplify for people who aren't familiar with Taleb: Being employed is not the safe bet that most think it is. You can still get fired, laid off, etc. due to things beyond your control (like the 2008 financial crisis). The key here is that while the probability of such events is low, they are devastating when they happen (asymmetry). On the contrary, an entrepreneur has options. Since OP is fond of Nassim Taleb, I'll use him as another example. Taleb suggests writing a letter of resignation your first day on the job and keeping it in your work desk from there on out. 2	"Six figures" and other bullshit. It's not how much money you make, it's how you make it. Your money is only worth as much as the freedom it gives you. Taleb is a perfect example of this. He made enough "fuck you money" as a quant that he now does whatever he wants. His money isn't valuable because he took risks to make it, which he did (though not the type of societally valuable entrepreneurial risks that he preaches).
