I'm only up to episode 7, though I did skim ahead a little to see if it would get better, wasn't too impressed with the angle they took Erin in. I'm sure a competent writer could find a way to justify the stoic strength of their female characters, make their transformation a logical process and whatnot, but the thing to remember is that in fiction the writer has decided all these backstories and has deliberately chosen to make certain characters stronger and others weaker based on their created …

You didn't find Attack on Titan too heavy handed with the feminism? All the emotional and vulnerable characters are men and the stoic badasses are women... I'm not very far into it but it's been a cringe so far.
