2	Origin of empathy gap? Evolution has wired us toward reproduction, having grand children. Historically 60% of men didn't reproduce (20% of women). For the selfish gene they were useless. Could that be a reason why we tend to feel disgust when we see a man in a gutter but worry if it's a woman? That doesn't really make a difference. The origin of the empathy gap is that females are more important for reproduction than males. If a catastrophy wiped out 90% of the women of a tribe, recovery was very slow. It was basically the end of that tribe. If a catastrophy wiped out 90% of the men of a tribe - recovery was faster and they had a better chance to survive in the long run. 2	Is the feminist goal complete equality with men or special treatment for women b/c men are allegedly inherently violent? Both, kinda. The long term goal is complete equality. As long as complete equality doesn't exist, the short term goal is often special treatment to protect women from violence. Sounds good to me, as long as we don't forget that women sometimes abuse men as well. There's even more to it than that: Most transsexuals said that their gender identity is biological/innate, because society never "taught" them to be different (duh!). This contradicts the feminist idea that gender identity is just a social construct. Scientists did plently of research on it over the past 10+ years and have pretty much confirmed it. I was in a similar situation and got her to admit that it wasn't true. It can be tricky, especially when you're 15, but might be worth a try. Just try to be understanding and don't blame her - she might be feeling horrible herself by now. 1	Society’s inexcusable issues. Check comment section. The numbers you usually hear about are just pretty off in general. The numbers are so high because the records include ALL types of assault - often even pushing or grabbing someone without hurting him/her gets counted as an "assault". Ironically, the majority of these assaults are indeed commited or initiated by women.
