See, the guy in this situation probably thought that was how you hook up with a girl. I couldn't tell you how many times I thought that sitting and talking to a girl for hours would get me laid. Now, I know better. Not to say I won't have a heart-to-heart with an actual female friend, but this won't get you laid.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic... If it was a 18+ ladies night, I'd probably go up, offer to buy them a water (jokingly, of course). It would be a funny change from every dude who wants to buy her drinks.

Yea, start off by going out to eat with just a few friends, but go to a restaurant that has a decent bar. Get a feel for how to dress, how to act, i.e. the bar scene in general. Do this until you feel like you could go up to a bar and order a drink. You get carded? Just play it off like nothing and get a coke. Get a virgin mixed drink if necessary. I'm 20 now, and for two years (in the US) I've been to nearly every local bar now and can often drink. It's a matter of branching out. Granted you may only be able to get into that one or two at first, but meet some bigger name guys around the bar scene and you can eventually bluff yourself into the nicer places. Find those guys who know EVERYONE and at least be acquaintances.
