I am also torn. I know how in this city (Berlin) the police are stretched extremely thin with an influx of new "guests" from Northern Africa causing a lot of trouble and budget cuts. Some areas of this city are a free-for-all. We reported a more serious crime in January and it's still not been dealt with (the police say because they are just massively under-staffed). So in a way I think it is wasting police time. I'm just curious to see how it would be dealt with. If it was someone being serious…

Well I wouldn't say the law is new but the interpretation of the laws is being used differently if you read from todays date to backwards Rechtsprechung zu §185. You'll see how much the interpretation has changed since around 9-12 months ago.

Sadly I am actually going through a more serious criminal process at the moment (that started in December) and is still nowhere near finishing. So I am unfortunately aware of the slowness (especially in Berlin) of the legal system here (and I work at a large law firm in the media department too).

This is Germany. They'd need very solid proof for death-threats and this is a criminal case not a civil case (crazy right), so if I lose I wouldn't lose any money or have to pay court fees. It would be the State vs [Person in question]. I'm not celebrating anything. Just testing the system to see if they will even investigate it or interview me.

Thanks. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Very interesting that she calls me "privileged" when I live in East Berlin grew up in a Plattenbau in social housing and she is a friend-of-a-friend and I know she is from a very rich family from the Ruhrpott who studied at a university in London (which I know for a foreigner costs at least 12,000EUR a year).
