At least the pattern is somewhat cyclical. Massive labor shortages caused by population decreases along with retirees will drive wages higher, or so it's thought. If the population is "stable" then it really depends on greater utilization of labor, which is usually hand and hand with GDP growth, though the shift to automation is making that a less hard and fast rule these days. I do, definitely see this phenomenon coming to America next.
