These are better yeah. I'm happy to accept that women attempt suicide more often based off this data, although not to the degree that was stated in the first source - it appears to be ~1.5x as likely, not 2-3x.

Women are three times more likely to make an unsuccessful attempt than a man, yet will attempt suicide two to three times more often. I don't believe this statement is accurate. The abstract of the source that is linked to this statement reads as follows: BACKGROUND: Overall gender ratios are often quoted in studies of deliberate self-harm (DSH) patients, almost always with higher rates in females than males. Reporting a ratio across all ages may conceal important variations in the gender ratio …

Not OP but I think I've found the site that they're originally found these stats on and the vast majority of them are cited in the article itself, and the primary sources can then easily be found by googling the name of the source as laid out in the article. https://thefatherlessgeneration.wordpress.com/statistics/

I grudgingly agree with most of the above comments in this chain, but I also have to ask (and this is open to anyone) - what exactly can be done about it? I believe that the majority of those that identify first and foremost as MRAs, rather than first and foremost as antifeminists (which is probably the identity that covers most of the '70%' you mentioned), these people want the ability to criticise feminism when actions by feminists are literally infringing on men's rights and the activism of M…

'This' as in 'people getting joke sentences for burglary' was how I read it, and OP seems to confirm that this is what they meant in a comment response to you. You'd probably have better results in future asking for clarification from the user if a comment is ambiguous rather than being needlessly hostile.

This is the reason to confront any intruder in your home with deadly force. They said any intruder - man or woman, it doesn't matter. How are you interpreting that as 'woman hating'? If anything it's egalitarian to act the same way regardless of the gender of the intruder.

I wish this was the top comment to be honest, because it's the most concise and simple one that completely demolishes OP's assertions. If there are indeed men out there who are making deliberate false rape accusations against women, why have I seen literally zero news stories about any of these cases, yet there are several high profile cases (UVA, Sulkowitz, 'Jackie') involving female false accusers, in addition to many more lower profile cases that a bit of digging on Google will uncover. And n…

I'm talking about stories in which the police laugh at the victim reporting the crime, as that was the context of your comment that I responded to. I'm not talking about false accusations, just the treatment of victims by the police in this specific comment chain. I don't really think you answered my last question so I'll frame it differently: if a woman shared a story like one of the ones I linked above, would you automatically assume that the story is false as you have done with my stories? An…

I don't know what your point is or what it is you're asking for. You seem happy to dismiss all of these stories as false, so I don't know what I can show you to make you reconsider. Do you dismiss stories with female victims in the same way? Or are you just playing devil's advocate here?

I assume good faith in cases where all I have to go on is a story from their POV, with no charges being pressed and therefore no trial. There is little/no consequence of me taking them at their word, so I have no problem in doing so. In the context of trial cases, I am more skeptical and therefore require more proof, as the consequences are much more severe than believing a fake story on the internet. This goes for male and female accusers: I will concede that some MRAs are inconsistent in apply…

I find it hard to believe you genuinely read all six links, then typed out this response, all in 5 minutes. I don't doubt that there are women who have had similar experiences - the police aren't and will never be perfect. But what I do contest is how often this dismissive attitude is shown towards each sex. I mean, in each linked case, the police have literally laughed at the victim, which is disgusting behavior even if there is not enough proof to press charges. In what world can you possibly …

unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim I'm not sure if I agree with OP or not, but your comparison is flawed as the recipients of gyno exams consent to the procedure. Some thoughts and speculation on this specific case: The mother was said to have contacted social services before the police. Was any action taken by social services? How can circumcision without even then consent of the parent/s not be viewed by the police as a criminal matter when it was first reported? Given that the grandparents (who are among those arrested, thankfully) are both in their 40s, I'm wondering if they falsely claimed to be the child's parents in order to get the doctor to perfo…

I find your position absurd in that you seem to think that mutilating male babies under the pretense of preventing an ailment that is responsible for 360 deaths a year is fine, but you draw the line at removing breast tissue from girls to prevent an ailment that is responsible for over 40,000 deaths a year, on the basis that one is just 'part' of something, while the other one is 'the whole thing'. Circumcision of men allows for better hygiene because the head is easier to clean. Only 'easier' in that you don't have to roll back the skin to clean, something that is painless and takes almost no time at all. This is the most minor of 'benefits'. Less chance of contracting STDs. Like HIV? Studies on FGM show similar findings. Regardless, if somebody wants to get circumcised to reduce STI transmission, they can do so when they are old enough to consent to the procedure, and not have it forced …

I'm glad that you're happy with it, and I hope nobody in the comments gives you shit for it - it happens in threads like these sometimes to people who express your point of view, and its disheartening because there's nothing wrong with being fine with being circumcised. I'm fairly sure that a man who is found guilty of rape will be on the hook for child support (presumably once they're out of prison as male perps tend to actually get jail sentences for rape), but a quick Google search proved fruitless as all the results were articles and discussions about male rape victims being forced to pay ch…

it simply states that divorced men commit suicide nine times more often than women, compared to around three times for the general population So clearly there is something about divorce and the consequences that causes men to commit suicide at a far higher rate than the general population, and at a far higher rate than divorced women. Hence the: men being forced into a life of indentured servitude after divorce, unable to see their kids, living in some ratty apartment while the ex marries some d…

If you're interpreting every part of this literally, then no. If you're using the fairer interpretation of "many men kill themselves due to the consequences of divorce being heavily weighted against them on average", then yes: http://jech.bmj.com/content/57/12/993.full.pdf+html Divorce is a much, MUCH bigger risk factor in suicides for men than for women. Whether post-divorce men make up a majority demographic of male suicides, I'm not sure, but they're clearly an extremely high-risk group.

Does anyone know of a study that compares the weighted sentences of women with kids against women without kids, and the same comparison for men? While I don't think that kids being involved is the ultimate factor in these absolute miscarriages of justice, I swear that every single time a mother is convicted of a crime, the judge always parrots the "but what about the kids" line pretty much every time. I want to see the figures.

We obviously fundamentally disagree on this, that's fine. I think the fact that the male abuse line talks about men as perpetrators for the most part, and has one line at the end mentioning services for male victims, while the female line is 100% regarding women as victims and has no section regarding women as perpetrators, is biased. I believe that this bias may discourage male victims from coming forward, but I have no evidence to support this. The bias is the main issue for me. I suspect it i…

And my made-up line also stated that it was for women who have been victims of sexual assault too. But the way it's framed would certainly put me off if I were a female victim. I don't see why male victims of DV would feel any different with the real line. Edit: I didn't downvote you fwiw. I disagree with you, but I don't think your comment adds nothing to the discussion.

Good post. In case anyone is looking for the bit about the proposal to close women's prisons (it took me some time to find), OP's third link, post #12 has a text dump of the source. You're going to have to correct me if I'm misinterpreting you here, but your point seems to be that the man's crime is equal/more severe because the victim was in an emotionally vulnerable state. While I acknowledge this as a factor in sentencing disparity, I still think that in the eyes of the law, the age of consent is by far the biggest factor here. 'No bad tactics, only bad targets' is not a view that I want to see adopted by the MRM. If this is the case, have people contact Facebook about the false reports and ask them to have the groups reinstated. MRAs, anti-MRAs, feminists and anti-feminists should all be able to have pages to express their views on social media. Not 'wrong', our numbers just represent different things. I see you've added up the percentage in the table under the 'parent' category, excluding the 'nonparent' category. I included both. Next, your figures basically tally up the genders of each victim's abusive parent/s, including situations where both parents were abusive, which is why the sum of your percentages is over 100%, since each of these cases adds two perps to the total for a single victim. My figures tally up the genders of each v…

Glad to hear you agree with my main point. Some MRAs undoubtedly claim this. I personally disagree, but it's difficult to know who is 'correct' as the relationship between % of time spent with child (mother vs father) and the chance of any instance of abuse occurring won't be directly proportional. For example, let's say a couple divorces before their child is born and the father is only given access once per fortnight, for one evening, let's say for 3 hours. This is ~0.9% of the time spent with…

This is a good question. I personally don't believe that either men or women are 'more abusive' as a gender, and that women having a higher proportion of time spent with their children compared to men will push the statistic slightly towards them. With 50:50 time spent with children I think that the abuse by gender would be roughly 50:50 as well. My main contention is the notion that men/fathers are generally seen as more likely to be abusive than women/mothers. The statistics clearly do not ind…

Every father lives for those small, joyful moments when his child masters something new - a book once too challenging, the telling of a joke previously stumbled over, a food devoured that had formerly been rejected. I didn't see it mentioned in the article so it's worth mentioning here because I had to look it up: the age of consent in Louisiana is 17. There are effectively Romeo & Juliet-esque qualifiers that stop teenagers from facing felony charges when there's only 2/3 years between them, but they don't apply here. It's statutory rape. Period. You can argue where exactly the line should be drawn, but at the end of the day if the law in that state says 17, you're over 20, and you don't want to be charged…

the offender shall be punished by life imprisonment or by imprisonment in the state prison for a term of not less than 4 years or more than 100 years I can't be the only person who thinks that having such an enormous range in the sentencing guidelines is bizarre. I understand that there are aggravating/mitigating factors, previous convictions, etc, but I cannot fathom how one person can get 4 years in prison 5 years probation and another can get 100 years in prison for the same offence.

"i could've crushed your face but i just sat there and took it" yeah a really convincing argument you put there in your comment, by OPs own words he could have crushed her face but just sat there and took it, I'm not sure how that contradicts anything I've said, but I'm happy to concede to making a mistake if you point it out to me. and its unreasonable for me to expect him to be able to move to a cell phone? It occurs to me that we're both assuming that OP had his phone at hand during the attack, that may well not have been the case unless OP has clarified elsewhere. There's merit to your suggested course of action but I think you've been unreasonably harsh towards OP for taking an alternative strategy, and your strategy may not have even been possible for OP as it hinges on assumptions about the situation that have not been clarified by OP to my knowledge.
/r/MensRights27/04/16 05:05 PM
3

It seems from OP's account that this is the first time that this has happened, although I'm welcome for him to correct me if I've made a false assumption. In that case he had no reason to start recording until she had already attacked him. If this was a repeat scenario I agree that capturing it on video is wise, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I'd say that restraining himself and taking photo evidence of his injuries and her texts is pretty good going anyway.
/r/MensRights27/04/16 04:52 PM

if its on video you you have a defence. But it isn't on video. In the absence of video evidence and witnesses, if he strikes back he escalates the situation and increases the chances that he will be arrested should the police get involved. A claim of self-defense essentially boils down to 'he said she said' in this case. you are enabling this by being a pussy Refusing to escalate a violent situation does not make him a pussy.

My optimistic side is encouraged by this and hopes to see more attempts like this to get men to report abuse that they receive. My cynical side can't help but feel that if a man went into a police station and told an officer that his girlfriend/wife was constantly verbally berating him, the likely result would be polite dismissal at best and being laughed out of the station at worst. That said, this is the sort of thing that needs more coverage. Good on Humberside Police for doing this.

If men held 55% of suffrage, the MRM never would have existed. I'll clarify my question: if men held 55% of suffrage, do you think that the issues affecting men would be addressed? Big government taking from men to give to women is what caused the MRM to exist. Without giving women majority control of government while paying a small minority of taxes, we never would have reached the situation we are in today. I don't have the data but I would assume that the (income) tax discrepancy is down to f…
/r/MensRights26/04/16 12:47 PM

True, but by the same token there are minority demographics that also have influence in government despite being a far smaller percentage of the voters than men. Hypothetically, if men were the ones making up 55% of suffrage, do you think that the MRM would hold social power in the same way that feminism does now?
/r/MensRights26/04/16 07:45 AM

It's difficult, if not impossible for the MRM to enact major societal change without having influence over people in positions of power: politicians, judges, professors, etc. This is something that feminism has managed to achieve, but the MRM is still very much struggling to get there, although not for lack of trying. Unfortunately the MRM has a significant disadvantage compared to feminism in this regard: very few people actually give a shit about the problems of men. Few people caring = little…

And she still could have gotten probation - prosecutors give plea deals to female sex abusers all the time to get around mandatory minimum sentences like this. That's a very good point that I hadn't considered, you're absolutely right. In that context I agree it's a good thing that she was charged with the appropriate sentence, rather than a much more lenient one as part of a plea deal.

I'd like to give some perspective on her sentence as the article is lacking in information on it. Aggravated sexual battery and rape are Class B felonies. Penalties include a fine of up to $25,000, at least eight (and up to 30) years in prison, or both. Source. Note that a class B felony does not allow the option of probation in sentencing. I agree with you, that's pretty damning to her version of events. If the accused was having an affair with your ex spanning several months, it's likely that he has texts/online messages from her that would cast doubt on her depiction of events, if not outright disprove them. That said though this is something that needs to be traversed carefully. While you have your suspicions and are within your rights to have broken up with her, there's nothing here that definitively proves her accusation to be false (or true for that matter). Either of them could be lying. …

Greenfield explained that this would also apply to accusers, and essentially undermines the Education Department's insistence that colleges and universities create pseudo courts to adjudicate sexual assault, which is actually a felony. Two potential pitfalls here: 1) Having the same views on children and an understanding as to how an unplanned pregnancy would be handled is ideal, sure, and there are plenty of guys who are in a similar boat to you. However, should an unplanned pregnancy occur, there is nothing stopping someone from changing their mind with regard to having an abortion. Whether or not a guy becomes a father in these situations is 100% down to the decision made by their partner. Now I'm not suggesting that women …

I guess the majority of women would weigh up the options and think "I'd rather just take some pills than have this weird thing shoved in me". I can understand that position, even though when you just look at the figures the IUD clearly takes the majority of potential human error out of the equation. If men also had an implant and pill with similar success rates, I suspect most guys would choose the pill over the implant as well.

I always find it funny when people who are pro-choice use pro-life rhetoric as soon as the conversation is about male reproductive rights e.g. "if you don't want kids get it snipped", "men do get a choice, it's called a condom", "consent to sex is consent to fatherhood". It's sadly one of the consequences of an extremely pro-free speech sub, unless it's spam or the title is utterly misleading to the point of being a barefaced lie, it will usually stay up. To be honest low-effort image posts should end up getting dragged off the front page by downvotes anyway, but this sub tends not to pile on the downvotes unless an OP is openly anti-MRA without being able to back up their claims. Even crap content that is pro-MRA or anti-fem tends not to drop below 80% upvoted.

Ultimately, if some women are so desperate for a child that they would be happy to raise them on their own, there are options available: IVF, surrogacy, adoption. I suspect the reason that these options aren't brought up is because it means they take on the full financial burden as opposed to sharing it with a partner.

As a former Scout in the UK, I was there when our Scouting organisation started allowing girls in, in 2007 iirc. We only actually had one in our unit, she was the girlfriend of one of the guys there. A few more joined after I left though. Ultimately if the girls are prepared to do the same stuff as the boys, more power to them. If they go on camps and expect to be able to sit on their arse while the boys are putting up tents, starting campfires, making dinner, navigating etc, it's going to right…

I remember this one. An article prior to her release goes into some more detail. A little exchange between one of the victims and their mother: ''I cut him off and said, 'Don't be silly. Women don't do things like that; women aren't paedophiles,'' she said. ''And then later on he said, 'I tried to tell you mum but you wouldn't listen.'' This case is all kinds of fucked up.

Don't worry I noticed! :P The article expands on the figure in more detail: Kevin Andrews of no fixed address was jailed for six years whilst Kyle Andrews, also of no fixed address was jailed for five years and two months. Bosworth, of St Helens was jailed for five years and four months. All three men pleaded guilty to burglary. So 5-6 years for each guy.

She has a history of stealing cars, having been found guilty of that offence earlier in 2015. I can see where you're coming from regarding the ages of the perps, but also can't help but feel that had the genders of all perps been flipped, the young offender would not have fared as well in comparison to the three older ones. Unfortunately I can't really substantiate that with evidence though.

More information would be useful yeah, unfortunately the article itself is a little thin on the ground for facts that might affect sentencing. Not at all, I'm saying that there are plenty of rape/sexual offences posted in this sub, usually with female perps, where joke sentences are handed down in comparison to the 48 years that this guy got. The fact he's also innocent is an even bigger slap in the face.

I'd just like to draw attention to this: Clarence Moses-EL was convicted in 1988 and sentenced to 48 years in prison for raping and assaulting a woman when she returned home from a night of drinking. He was 32 at the time of sentencing, and would have been released at 80 had he served the full sentence. Bar parole, which seems less likely given that the guy served over half his sentence without it, it's as good as spending the rest of his life behind bars. Obviously in this case, they fucked it …

Yeah I was also confused by the framing of OP's post. The fact that the guy's abuser was sentenced to 8 years is genuinely a great thing to see, the authorities took the proper action and gave her a sentence befitting her crime rather than the '12/18/24 months suspended sentence' crap we're all too used to seeing in cases that would result in jail time for a man. I'm talking exclusively about a pill that would be used in the same way that the female pill is, long lasting injections would likely not rake in anywhere near as much I agree. I said I would imagine it to be a goldmine in theory as I think there's a big market for it, but I concede that I don't know how the male pill would work and what the drawbacks would be, so perhaps in practice there isn't a profitable and effective solution at this point.

I agree with your reasoning, what I find odd is how we've seen 'the male pill is just around the corner' articles every few months for several years now, and there doesn't appear to have been any tangible progress or shortening of the expected timeframe. It is not easy to balance these values, especially as the Internet evolves. We are learning and hopefully improving as we move forward. We want to be open about our involvement: We will ban subreddits that allow their communities to use the subreddit as a platform to harass[1] individuals when moderators don’t take action. We’re banning behavior, not ideas. Thei…

Then once an innocent guy is found 'guilty' by the university because "her story sounded more believable", we'll see people calling for him to be locked up because in their minds, that proves he's a rapist. Can't see this being used to justify witch-hunting at all /s

Echoing statements I made on a submission similar to this, regardless of whether or not this is considered doxxing, it is still an unjustified escalation of the situation. As irritating as their disruption was, they do not deserve to have their personal information published.

Perhaps doxxing is the incorrect term for me to use in this case. Regardless, while you can say 'As long as there's no advocating violence or illegal acts', let's be honest, what is the purpose of identifying these people? The answer that immediately springs to mind for me is 'to harass them', and if that is the purpose then I can't support it.

If you're referring to the people who 'protested' the CAFE meeting, they're dicks for going in there with the sole purpose to disrupt and not having any intention of listening to a different point of view, but they ultimately caused very little harm. It pisses me off to no end that events like this always seem to attract a few of these nutjobs, but I would consider doxxing to be significantly more harmful. If you're referring to feminists/SJWs who have doxxed or support doxxing, I have no desire…

Fair enough, I based my statement off the fact that when I've read articles or seen videos regarding circumcision, it's usually implied that there is little/no anesthetic involved, so in some cases my 'no anesthetic' statement doesn't hold water. That said, retracting that statement doesn't make me think that Brian's reasoning is any more sound.

Is this not considered doxxing? I think that these people are deplorable, but if the intent is to find out their personal information and try to ruin their personal lives then that makes us orders of magnitude worse.

OP, would you support the removal of breasts from baby girls to drastically reduce their chances of developing breast cancer? If not, why not? Bear in mind that breast milk is not a necessity anymore. I would oppose this, like I oppose circumcision without that choice being made by the person who is being cut.

"When she viewed the CCTV she realised her recollection was not what she thought it was." Well no fucking shit, surprisingly enough people are quick to retract lies when shown video evidence that said lies are bullshit.

TS;DW1: An adult making a choice about what they want to do with their own body is more traumatic than a baby having part of their penis cut off with no anesthetic in a situation where they cannot consent. Too Stupid; Didn't Watch1

I definitely support this, but I can already see the predictable response you'll get from the other side: stating that a man being guilt tripped into not seeing his friends is not the same as beating a woman, because these people can only deal in extremes. Unless of course the extremes paint men as worse affected, in which case they'll find any stat that paints women as having it worse and use that instead e.g. suicides vs 'possible attempts'. This is why the DV narrative is so focused on homici…

It's interesting that the gap between male and female suicide rates shrinks dramatically for veterans, especially given how large the gap is for the civilian population. My theory would be that these female veterans contemplating suicide, who I would imagine will often be suffering PTSD or other mental trauma, are much more committed when they attempt suicide. While I don't know if it's possible to find such data, I suspect that the severity of a person's problems will strongly correlate with th…

ITT: People with disabilities and previously/currently pregnant women rally behind a woman who is encouraging perfectly able-bodied, non-pregnant women to fake pregnancy, vomit everywhere, act like a stalker, and be as passive-aggressive as humanly possible, just to get a seat on public transport. Said women who, as pointed out in the first paragraph of the article, may well then not give up their seat for a genuinely pregnant woman or disabled individual. I have a double-migraine from all of th…

"We're not trying to make our kid suffer," Bahar said. "She'll use a pain blocker to numb the area and we'll give him some baby Tylenol before the ceremony. Sure, he'll cry – but that will be because he will be exposed to the cold air." Yeah, I remember that time when I cut off part of my dick and couldn't have given less of a shit, but this one time I left my house on a cold November day without my coat on... the pain was unbearable! Seriously though, when you have people trying to argue that c…

Judging from the downvotes and from one of the comments left on the video, a lot of people have misinterpreted this so let me clear things up. The stuff I read out at the start of the video is NOT MY POSITION, it is the position that I spend the rest of the video arguing against. There are a few clues: a) the video is called Debunking 'Debunking The Men's Rights Movement', b) the description explains that I am arguing against the anti-MRM position, c) if you watch the rest of the video it quickl…

He'd been paying for 13 years, was involved in a dispute with his ex, and there was talk of him going through an appeal. To call him a deadbeat is asinine given that this debt was disputed and he'd happily paid for so long up to that point. All of this is ignoring the fact that he may have been UNABLE to pay due to financial difficulty, I can't see anything that states that this was or was not the case.

You know the situation better than I, so I see where you're coming from. That said, I would personally take a message that implied that the sender was going to commit suicide seriously, even if I knew they had a habit of being a bullshit artist, but maybe other people's milage will vary.

I agree with you, and as I've said in a comment chain further down I'm not blaming the son whatsoever as no one is prepared for something like this coming out of the blue. My issue is with the coroner's statement, which mirrors how a significant amount of society sees men when they snap and cry for help: something to be ignored, or not taken seriously.

I'm absolutely not trying to blame Ben for what happened, my gripe is with the coroner's statement and how it seems to be the standard mentality as far as male expression of hardship is concerned.

I obviously have no idea what your situation is, but I'm sorry that you're having a horrible time and you can't express that without people being dismissive. It's a stupid societal expectation and the sooner it's torn down the better. I'm sure that many people on this sub have been through or are going through shitty patches and I have no doubt that they sympathise with you.

$2,700 a ticket. I have no words. I thought it was ridiculous when the Tories did a similar thing in the UK too, although to be fair they actually invited both men and women by default. Such a high fee seems to run contrary to the 'fact' that women are making 77c to every man's dollar. Right?

"He had engaged in a number of texts with his son. He said some rather silly things, including that he would hang himself. I don't think anyone would have believed him for a minute." For fuck's sake, this is part of the problem. When something finally happens in a man's life that causes him to go over the edge and he actually makes his feelings heard, it's not taken seriously.

As it should be. While we can be justifiably pissed off at women who cheat on their husbands and take them to the cleaners in divorce court, that doesn't make the woman in this case less deserving of sympathy because other women have benefited from it.

Janet certainly feels her punishment was unduly harsh. Although Paul broke their marriage contract, as he was also the main caregiver and she was seen as the breadwinner who was rarely at home, she lost everything. "He took the house, half my pension, half my salary - and, what's worse, the children," she says. Pot. Kettle. Black. In all seriousness though, this is a really horrible situation for the woman who is going through this and I feel for them. It's just a shame that this kind of sympath…

Moderate left. I find it extremely difficult to share my political views with others: more extreme left-wingers will lynch me for daring to suggest that people should be socially responsible and not make decisions under the assumption that the state will pick up the tab, while many right-wingers conflate me with the far left and think that I want equality of outcome and to bring everyone down to the lowest level in society, something that the SJW crowd love to preach. I ultimately align as left-…

Have to agree with this, stating that you're an MRA to people you know in real life is extremely dangerous given that the media and feminists usually paint the MRM as a hate group.
