Depending on the country, there are significant legal and tax benefits. I would be paying 30% lower federal income tax just by the virtue of different tax brackets in the US. On top of it, I would benefit from increased deductions and tax credits, significant tax advantages when withdrawing from retirement accounts, much better tax treatment of my fringe benefits. Legal protections one loses when living together with someone without being married are significant. For example, your spouse may not…

Don’t do it. If she really loves you, it will not matter. If not, you don’t want her. What difference does it make if you owe her half of your assets and possibly spousal support? Why would you want that?

Oh, she is 100% right about not being his therapist. I disagree about relying more on yourself — people need help/therapy to deal with their issues. Men also need male friends and male confidants (that could be in form of a therapist) who will support them. Never rely on a female partner for emotional support! That makes her feel like a mommy and kills any remaining attraction. What she said was not crazy or wrong at all.

I good woman is one who is deeply in love with you. If a woman is very attracted, nothing you do will be “wrong.” If a woman is not attracted to you, everything you do will be “wrong.”

My friend, if you want any chance to staying together with her, separate immediately and hold her accountable. Most likely she has not been attracted to you for a long time. The fact that you are hearing this from her means that this has been on her mind for months, possibly years. By the time a woman tells you she wants a divorce, she has been thinking about it for a really long time. This is the last straw. Anything you do now to try to repair the relationship will only make things worse. The …

This is very much correct and will absolutely ruin your woman’s attraction. Most men think of their woman as a kind of “war partner” in life, which could not be further from the truth. A woman is not a man. She is not there to help you or to be your emotional support. This works only one way, never both ways. Treating your woman as you would treat a man will make her feel unsafe and like a mother to a little boy.

Good stuff. Trying to understand what he is saying about his "spiritual awakening"/"bipolar episode". Anyone care to share your thoughts? "I began hugging and later jumping while embracing my 22-year-old special needs son. My son loves me unconditionally, and his love and mine combined to bring about a powerful spiritual burst. The feelings overwhelmed me, overtook any rational thought, and the emotions poured out, raw and untamed. I jumped. I shouted. I moved." Sounds pretty crazy, no?

$175k so far. Not a single hearing. Have not seen the kids in three years.

You are assuming the mother is safe for the children. But I get what you are saying. If the mother does not have bpd or npd, that makes sense.

Apparently, the research on this has been inconclusive

You sound like you really need to take action. It really starts with reframing yourself. I don’t want to tell you now, but try to get back to this idea after going through some of the material. OK, this is super important. The fact that you do not have a parenting agreement is VERY bad. You could lose access to you children. Google parental alienation and start reading up on it ASAP. Your children are your first, second, third and tenth concern! You MUST spend money right now to put in a solid custody order and a parenting plan. There is a huge number of parents, both men and women, who have not seen or had any contact with their children for years, sometimes decades. I know a guy who …

Not all states require a custody order or a parenting plan. Some states do, some do not.

Man, do I know exactly how you feel! Hang in there, buddy. You are in it for the long haul. Baby steps. Whatever you do, please, PLEASE put your children first! They are you first, second, third and tenth concern now. I cannot stress how important it is at this stage for you to be the best father you can be! Everyone is different, but for me physical activity really helps with my mood. A 6 am 5k run does wonders.

Could be worse. My ex got married her affair partner 60 days after divorce. Without telling me.

Absolutely get a lawyer. At the very least get that petition reviewed by someone with experience. But it’s better to have representation. You may be amicable now because of a reason you are not aware of (yet.)

These are US statistics. There is large variation world wide. Some countries are as high as 80%, some are much lower.

Yes, I think it often is. Having said that, I will also say that the time to act is the very first time abuse like that happens. Women are very emotionally intelligent and the screaming comes after a long process of thinking, hinting, saying things with double meaning, etc. By the time a woman is at the screaming stage, usually all hope is long lost. There is no more respect, no more flexibility, no more feminine behavior. She no longer values this relationship. The only correct response is to l…

Absolutely, we are the problem. Our upbringing, the garbage popular culture instills in us men growing up, the lack of male role models, etc. It started in the 50s and 60s and has gotten worse ever since. New generation of men is even worse.

Do not date for at least a year. You will regret it. Focus on your kids and your life. Be the best father you can. Read up on divorce, relationships, kids of divorce, child custody, family law. Consult with attorneys. Make sure you have an iron clad parenting plan and custody order. Your kids are your first, second, third and tenth priority — everything else comes after that. Don’t badmouth your ex in front of your kids. If you suspect she does that — you need to act asap to help them. Read book…
