The July order, I believe, stated no visitation. So an email would not have violated it.

That was the very same question I asked. This link includes some good info on it: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/10/courting-corruption-the-auctioning-of-the-judicial-system/381524/?single_page=true&utm_source=digg&utm_medium=email

No sure. Still dealing with aftermath right now and trying to see what ultimately will happen with his daughter. Still much work to be done to ensure this wasn't just a two-day misdirection before it all goes back to how it was.

One side has been fighting for this. The other side hasn't. I agree. Should have happened immediately.

Great question. That may well be her. I don't see any pictures so I can't confirm.

There comes a point when you think "maybe she just is that big of an asshole." Everyone who hears this story at first thinks it's unbelievable. Then they hear a little more ... and a little more ... and a little more, and at some point they read what the kids wrote, or sit in the courtroom and feel her cold iciness, or just start picking apart her paid-for, house-of-cards logic ... and come to that exact conclusion.

Agreed. His daughter cannot have contact with either family for at least 3-4 days, which all things considered is wise. I agree. I just have my fingers crossed that she can get an unbiased assessment and end up somewhere she feels comfortable.

"The behavior it seeks." Well, Samantha said she'd return if the court would simply appoint a guardian at litem for her, who could represent her. Why not do that ... as opposed to throwing a man in jail for 60+ days?

That would be up to them and their mother, which is how I think it should be ... as opposed to the courts dictating it based on biased psych evaluations. The sad part is that the kids have expressed a willingness to attend therapy together and try to work through the issues. She has not. The son is about to leave for school and just ready to move on. I don't blame him. But his sister still has 3+ years. And she, too, is willing to work on things. She just wants them to be different, wants to not…

I won't endorse violence against her, but after reading what her kids wrote about her, and talking with them about what their life has been like with her (her son said "She runs her house like Stalin"), I just want them to be free from her. That's all they want. To live somewhere and with people who love them, support them, and lift them up instead of cutting them down so viciously.

A bunch of stuff is actually happening right now as we speak. I'll provide updates either here or on the website and Facebook page when I know more for certain.

This is a great question. It's why there was much debate for what our petition could actually request. I'm not from Miami, but from what I've told the Family Courts in Miami are like their own little private island of semi-lawlessness, where judges just rule however they want to, money reigns, and the interests of kids are usually put on the backburner behind immature, feuding adults. This is hearsay, mind you, but my limited experience -- this case -- backs it up. I'm proud of my aunt and uncle…

Thank you! I sure hope so. We're all very worried that the eventual outcome is going to involve Samantha having to go back to her mother's, though I don't know how long she'd stay. She's already run three times since they complied with the court order and delivered her to her mother's custody. I just want her to get a guardian appointed. It's outrageous that it hasn't happened yet.

He's a hell of a guy. Been through a lot in his past, has made mistakes, and turned himself around to inspire so many people over the last 10 years. He's a father figure to a lot of people who don't have supportive or understanding parents of their own. And he's a great father to his two kids. There is a reason they want to live with him and want nothing to do with their mother. And that's been the case long before they got desperate and found someone who would take their money to say the kids h…

I'm sure that will come down the line. Right now, we just want to see uncle Geoff get home and figure out a way that Samantha can come home too without having to be terrified that she'll get stuck unsupervised with her mother. What an awful feeling for a 14-year old girl to have to live in fear with.

Yep. They have filed 14 motions that have been thus far ignored by Judge Sarduy. I sat in the courtroom while Geoff's judge read each one aloud, for affect. Judge Sarduy barely could be bothered to listen. He then admitted that he wasn't aware of some of the motions and even tried to blame his clerk. (Soon thereafter he began complaining about the hearing running into his precious lunchtime.) This is the problem they keep running into. Any judge who gives their side a bit of credence get disqual…

His status remains unchanged. I do not know if another hearing is scheduled. The judge wants his daughter to resurface and won't budge when it comes to Geoff's status, even though there is nothing he can do about it. And even if he could, I'm sure he wouldn't, as he made clear in the interview. Either way, I agree with him. His daughter has already made it clear that she will come back immediately if they can just meet her somewhat halfway. She does not feel safe alone with her mother, and she d…

That, and the whole part about not being able to jail someone with evidence. The brazenness of the judge is really quite shocking to me. Unfortunately, the previous judge actually listened. He would not make Geoff's kids go back and live with their mother. He feared my cousin might hurt herself. But her mom and the attorney had that judge disqualified. Now we're stuck with this guy.

Thanks for all of the upvotes for far! If you want to read the petition that his son, friends, and family started, click here. It simply asks the Chief Judge to look into the matter and help us a) get Geoff's daughter an attorney ad litem appointed and b) get Geoff out of jail, since there is no cause for him to be there.

Wow. Unreal. Well I'm sorry that happened to you. It's amazing that this kind of unfairness can go on, with no recourse for those who get screwed by it. Makes places like this subreddit essential.

That is the idea. I will say that some of the calmness evaporated at the hearing I was at, but after seeing what I saw, and realizing that has been going on for years, I cut a few of my family member's some slack who got a bit emotional, especially when it was determined that my uncle was heading back to is cell without the possibility of him being released even really being discussed ... which was the point of the hearing! But yes, in terms of actions and strategy, our family has always tried t…

Great question. That is one of the details of the entire story that infuriates me more than anything! The great irony is that my uncle's mother, whose perspective that section is told from, actually started an alternative school that seeks to rehabilitate troubled youths who would otherwise be in jail. But year, she's a serial abuser. Come on! At every turn in this case it is one bit of ridiculousness after another.

Going to have to disagree here. No violence. The truth is going to win out. We just want to get the story out there to apply pressure that way.

Yes. And he won't even speak with her, as she's begged. All she wants is a way to have some kind of representation other than her mother (who is, right now, technically the 100% guardian, as crazy as it sounds). Someone to be a buffer. She's more than willing to attend therapy with her mother and try to work on things to make them better, but so far the mother has been completely unwilling.

Thank you! That would be great if they posted it on their site. And yes, the children's names are used on the site, with their permission. As for finding any type of approximate location, I'm not sure how that would be possible. Those documents were sent to me, then saved and recreated by me as PDFs on my laptop. But I will say: I'd love to know if there is something I'm overlooking. If there is really way to approximate locations for kids in Miami based on PDFs created in Dallas, I want to know…

I very much am. I'm proud that they have not stooped to the level's of his ex-wife. They have fought their fight fair and with truth. It's finally all coming around full circle ... at least, it feels like it is. I don't want to jump the gun. Somehow this woman always finds a way to win. The truth has to win at some point though. Money runs out before truth does.

Doug, absolutely. And while we want Uncle Geoff out of jail, we all absolutely understand why he is willing to stay there, if forced by the judge even without cause, to keep his daughter from having to go live with her mother. The other big issue here is that she desperately wants an attorney and guardian ad litem appointed. It makes so much sense to do so in a case like this, and the attorney she has been talking to has even worked with the judge in the past! Yet, curiously, he won't allow it. …

As far as I know, we have now been contacted by every TV station in Miami. (I live in Dallas, so going on what I'm told here.) Interviews have already been conducted and they are shooting footage of Uncle Geoff in jail, as well as his son, tomorrow night, at his final football game, where my aunt, his stepmom, will have to walk him out by herself since he can't be there. They will most certainly exhaust every appeal avenue that they have.

I would LOVE for that to happen. And I'm sure my cousin would too. She has pleaded with her mother to attend therapy with her. Her mother went once and spent the entire time threatening her daughter with what would happen if she ran away. They had another scheduled session and her mother simply didn't show up. The sad fact is that she shows little interest in the kids now, expect for how they can be used as pawns against my uncle. I keep waiting to learn something redeeming about her. I haven't.…

Yes. It is. When my aunt was first explaining the entire story, I figured it was probably 75% true. That she had to be embellishing the worst of it. But two things totally changed my tune: 1) I read the letters that Geoff's kids wrote to the court. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I mean, I had heard stories about their mom but I didn't realize the extent of it. 2) I sat in the courtroom during Geoff's second hearing with Judge Sarduy. Between his flirting with Geoff's wife's counsel, his …

Thank you for the comment! Yes, I agree. She should not return. And while she certainly could record her mother, the one thing I'm proud of her, her brother, and my uncle for is that they haven't stooped to the mother's level. They have done everything above board and simply believed that the truth would ultimately win out over her money and influence. Finally, FINALLY, it feels like the tide is starting to turn a little bit.
