This is what residency is like. Actual surgeons who are out of residency make their own hours. There are ACGME rules that require a less than 80 hour work week, but there are work arounds and many resident lie on their hour sheets and work over 80. In the 90s, resident lived at the hospital literally. Being a doctor is hard and many sane people would never do it.
