Agree. I’m actually not a big fan of the term “alpha”, and prefer to think about specific goals of leadership, fitness, etc.

Thanks. I should have been more clear that the personal trainer is at my current dumbbell / machines gym. I’ve decided to stick where I am until January 1st - after the holidays and while the new gym will probably have New Years resolution specials. Until then I’ll do a combination of dumbbells exercises and smith machine for lower body.

Thank you. I’ll have to save that link.

Thanks for the reply. It’s always harder to differentiate excuses and good reasons in your own life than it is for others. Right now my barbell routine is chest press, shoulder press, bent over rows, assisted pull-ups, goblet squats, dumbbell deadlifts, and some abs. Ignoring the willpower angle, I think of my choices as: A - Dumbbell routine and 30 minutes of sleep B - Barbell routine and no sleep. I want to say going to barbells is not worth giving up sleep, but I suspect you will say that you…

Thank you! Actually one thing I learned from following football is how the greatest players all love the daily grind. They aren’t outcome independent necessarily (Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are devastated when they lose a SB) but they get joy from the actual practice, preparation, and improvement, and are therefore willing to spend more time on it than anyone else. I think about that sometimes following my MAP. Instead of focusing too much on what I’ll get when I’m all ripped and supposedly al…

For a normal functioning human being you’re right, but I’ve had a lifetime of failures forming good habits and I’m currently on a roll with going to the gym. My only free time is before 6:30am or after 8:30pm, and I know I’m going to struggle if I add half an hour travel to each workout right now.

This is my fourth OYS. Last one is here I wish I had more to say this week, but overall everything has been going great. I had fun with my wife, sex a few times, and things have stayed light and on a good path. I have a very long way to go and a lot of work to do, but my life and relationship is already much better than before I had discovered MRP. Thank you to the veterans who come here to give OYS pointers. I’ve learned a lot from the often detailed responses to other people’s posts, and I thi…

The career beta is validation seeking because he's gone through life buying into the notion that he needs to be liked. That’s my biggest problem, and what I see as the biggest problem for lots of new MRPers. Am I doing this for myself or because I think my wife / friends / boss / anonymous redditors will approve?

Reading Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Great book that’s relevant to red pill in my opinion. Blue pill says to directly make arguments to a women’s system 2 (S2). Red pill says use your S2 on yourself to train attraction increasing behaviors until they become S1 responses. This will provoke a reaction to her S1 which will hamster to her S2 reasons why she should do X.

This is my third OYS. Previous one is here I’m near 40; 3 young kids; 6’2”; 192 lbs; ~20% body fat with picture method. (Impedance scale says 18.5%) Mission I don’t have some special Mission figured out that can be articulated in a few sentences. After a some introspection this week I did at least determine the core of what I’m looking for: Judge myself favorably On my deathbed or at any point until then I want to be able to look at my life and judge that I’m doing well given the circumstances. …

Thank you. This is something I’ve always struggled with. It’s so tempting to set up more goals because they seem so easy. It takes humility to recognize I just don’t have the discipline.

Thanks for the great response. Not talking is one of the few things I’m doing really well. Trying to find my mission is where I truly internalized (as opposed to just “knowing”) that I need approval. I’d think “I want to build this unique and awesome thing... because people would be impressed”.

Thank you. WISNIFG is next on my list to reread. Of the core 3 (MMSLP, NMMNG, and WISNIFG), this was the one I feel I didn’t get much out of other than verbal techniques, but it’s probably the one I should be getting the most out of. You are totally right that I buy in to judgements too quickly and uncritically. In this case I was just thinking if my wife suddenly started going to the gym and upgraded her wardrobe and did new things in bed and started going out late more often I’d also ask her w…

It’s been two months, but this is my second OYS - My first is here Goals I’m near 40, 6’2”, 195 lbs, about 20% BF, and my lifts are all shit but I’m working on it. My wife and I have sex 3-4 times a month, which is better than it used to be but much less than I need. My last OYS I set up a bunch of goals and ended up totally failing except for sticking to the gym regularly. I’m back for round 2 - this time progressively adding a new goal a week. I’ll try and check in here every week instead of e…

Thank you. I’ve read all the main sidebar materials, but that was more than two years ago so I’ll definitely reread in the context of my current knowledge.

Basics Made an account just for this. I’m going to post an OYS the end of every month. I discovered MRP about two years ago, lurked and read all the sidebar books. I think the core Red Pill message is extremely simple and rings true. Various philosophers and scientists draw the boxes differently, but agree there’s some continuum where most of our actions are governed by the lower mind - instincts and conditioned habits that are barely conscious. At the other end of the spectrum is a higher mind …
