This is applicable in a lot of ways too. I ripped into my girlfriend about not studying, then gave her radio silence for about a week. She responded by upping her work ethic and studying for her next test, which she passed. She's been telling me about her academic progress since, and I'm just encouraging her at this point. Any time you have a problem with something a woman is doing, state your piece then radio silence for however long you think is appropriate.
