Didn't her ex-husband post this under an Ask Reddit thread about unsolved mysteries while it was still going on? IIRC, at the time he had no idea where his daughter was but suspected that she had been kidnapped by the ex-wife. Twelve years of not knowing - horrible.

I'd argue that Elias sees reality more clearly than anyone else in the film. He is a superb soldier yet knows that his side is going to lose this war. Because there will be significant differences. In the USSR, because everything was centralized, when the economy hit the wall things just gradually slowed down. This allowed people to adapt. In the US, everything is just-in-time, connected and quite fragile. There will be no time to adapt to a collapse if you're not prepared.

Yeah well, too many CEOs are sociopathic boys pretending to be men. A real man would not hesitate to lay off people if the business and circumstances required it but he would treat those people with dignity, understand the implications of the fact that they no longer work for him and most importantly, take full responsibility for his actions. Jack Donovan's The Way of Men points out that a man's real validation comes from other men. His explanation of the meritocracy based on the masculine virtues - strength, courage, mastery and honor - that quickly forms in any group of men is very compelling. Do the work. Drive yourself until you succeed. But make sure your external validation comes from other men: men better, stronger or more courageous than yourself.

Being a soldier is much much easier if you really want to be there. If you have any doubts, then the training and the conditions will bring you to your senses pretty quickly.
