2	Getting divorced in Illinois The way I look at it. When you go thru a divorce, there are a lot of moving parts. There is a lot of back / forth negotiation. If it was up to me. Then my ex-wife could not have moved her a certain miles. She used the excuse, that the area where we lived was too expensive. So, she was not limited in the amount of miles she could move away to. 1	Getting divorced in Illinois I don’t know exactly about Illinois. Usually the children can’t be moved a certain miles away from the other parent. I am in New York. I tried to have her not move a certain amount of miles from where I live. I settled (on advice from my lawyer). That my ex-wife has have exchanges with me at a certain location every other week for visitation.
