Competition occurs when multiple species require the same resource(s) in the same area. As such, really only one species can dominate this resource, and the other competing species are forced to inhabit secondary, less desirable sources. My problem with it is probably just the diction, but “somatic cell” actually refers to any cell that is not a “gametic cell,” or a reproductive cell.
