Is it unthinkable that a person might simultaneously hold the positions that marriage is between one man and one woman and also that men have or should have rights? One of the things I really get exercised over in regards to feminism is their "shutting up" techniques such as when Dr. Warren Farrel went to the University of Toronto. Perhaps it is a freedom of speech issue more than a man's rights issue - but I think anytime somebody tells somebody to "Shut Up" - they don't have a right to their o…

It would be a shame if a bunch of men demanded entry into a female space, then turned it into something it wasn't intended to be.

In the first place men are less likely to call regretful morning sex rape. In all fairness, men probably have less pressure to post-legitimize the event. Secondly, if a man feels he has been raped - he is going to have to walk into a police station and say 'I would like to report a crime.' There is an understandable concern he would be laughed out of the precinct house. If you think it is difficult for a woman to prove she was raped by a man - how does a man prove he was raped by a woman? You wo…

I went back and read your original sentence a couple of times then got it. You are saying it would be logical for more prosecutions to come out of mutually drunk couples having sex as they would be prosecuting other.
/r/MensRights25/10/13 12:46 AM

I don't think the answer is more prosecutions. We need to have an honest discussion about the taboo topic of "what constitutes consent". Very few men want to be involved with a woman who isn't fully consenting; so we need clearer communication. Legally the weak 'yes' indicates consent; morally not so much. As for drunk - there's drunk and then there's drunk. The example of the married man and wife having a weekly glass of wine or three, then engaging in sex could come under this heading. It seem…

And from the comments section - Internet gold: He's a man and pretends he's an authority of women? He knows nothing of what women experience and should shut up about it. As should any man attempting to comment about women's issues. Men should shut up and listen for a damn change. Imagine if a woman was walking around telling men how they should live? Unbelievable.

nihilist_nancy - do you always resort to such cheap ad-hominem attacks? Or do you have a valid point here?

Vanhandle - I agree. Alimony has its place. It can be, and has been greatly abused and those problems should be fixed. But it does serve a valid purpose. There is no reason that purpose cannot be turned around to support the stay at home father either. On a different /r/mensrights thread, somebody used the word "leftoids". That poster has been sharply criticized, and rightly so. Men of different backgrounds and political persuasions deserve rights. The MRM, which has roots in the old Fathers Rig…

I can't say this enough. Equality is about equality of opportunity, not equality of outcomes. Any time we try to measure equality of outcomes, we are on the wrong road. Whenever I hear the line - 'Feminism is only about equality' - the 'equality' referred to is equal outcomes (Lily Ledbetter act; gender quotas, the 'glass ceiling', etc.) Feminism will always be wrong until it accepts the wonderful and really more than equal opportunities women have been afforded in our modern society.

I have been meaning to make this connection for some time, but couldn't find the link. Whenever I read of the 'Dear Colleague' letter, or in this case the University kangaroo courts as established in VAWA - I think of this. This is a False Accusation model - used in a case from the 1970s. I learned of the case itself today and was riveted reading about it. The model is here. The fourth point is the one that always strikes me False accusers usually do not make their allegations initially to autho…

It's well understood most of the physical altercations were instigated by police roughly trying to break the barricades. Any violence instigated by police is on them, not demonstrators. I call Bovine Turdicles on that one. The barricade was the violence.

I have always had a suspicion that it isn't just in the job or job categories themselves that men choose more dangerous work, but within the discrete tasks performed within those jobs. For example, Tim and Mary are both in the Fishing industry. Tim is more likely to be out on a boat to begin with, with Mary in a safe office. Once out on the boat, Tim is still more likely to take the dangerous tasks. Given two tasks to complete, one task dangerous the other safer, assuming both persons are equall…

I have always thought this logical point was a bit backwards. It isn't that I expect women in great numbers to say - "Let's go get a more dangerous job" Men have historically made choices that optimize their wages in ways that women have not. This is reflected in more hours, more night shifts, more dangerous work. We all know the man who hates his job, but has a family to feed, so stays with it. I had a female manager (with employed husband) who resigned her position in the middle of the 2008 re…

By her logic, then - she would have no place to say what it is like being a man. I don't agree with that. I think different perspectives are important. But, by her logic, she has no right telling you the patriarchy is backfiring.

The comment was intended more for the OP. Yeah, I figure if you are pointing the OP to Dr Tara, you would be familiar with BDP. We used to not have any resources at all for this type of behaviour. Today, we can get access to good resources.

Look up Borderline Personality Disorder. For me, several years ago, I bought a book called Walking on Eggshells that helped me to understand quite a bit. Dr Tara's site was not available to me at the time, or I was unaware of it. Having an on-going community can be a powerful resource.

Thanks for the reply. That sounds reasonable to me. The parole officer might be generally more dangerous, but the social worker can certainly face dangerous situations.

Alimony has to be strictly tied to Fault Based Divorce. No Fault can remain an option - as long as no alimony is involved. As it turns out Fathers and Families heralded Texas as a possible model for the nation. This seems right and fair to me. Florida had a chance to go this way and missed that chance. Gov Scott said of his veto I have concluded that I cannot support this legislation because it applies retroactively and thus tampers with the settled economic expectations of many Floridians who h…

There are a few things to consider here; first - and I do not know what the Mormon teach is on this specifically, but I wouldn't get married because of external pressure. Then again - I wouldn't not get married because of external pressures either. This is exactly my thought. If a person is raped, they should go directly to the police, and not some university kangaroo court. Also, if they want to retain credibility, they should do so within the day, not 707 days later. That just does not make sense to me.

He makes a couple of really good points - like the one about the 'Diplomatic Immunity' some women feel about committing right out violence on a man. However, his good points are overwhelmed by his racist language and stereotyping. The video is another in a series that shows a woman using her Diplomatic Immunity to threaten harm on this guy. I am certainly thankful I was not the guy involved, and am not sure how I would react to that. I cannot see myself going to fisticuffs when he did. Her behav…

He is making some sweeping generalizations about women there. I think the Feminist movement has been toxic to our society. I think the current overwhelming feminist mindset is destroying us, both men and women alike. However, I do really like women. I have had some great female managers, and some bad male bosses. I love my wife, my daughters, my mother and sister. Both his bosses are men, so I don't know where he gets this negative idea about female bosses. In my line of work, I am concerned not…

The bigger question is - how do we differentiate between truly evil acts (Rapist with a knife in a back alley) and bad, but not truly evil (Peeing on the Dean's front lawn). We have good reason to protect our 14 year old children from sexual targetting by adults. I think the 18-14 age range is too much, and when I send my 14 year olds off to school, I expect there to be some safeguards around this. Yes, I know that 14 year olds themselves can be the sexual agressor. But they are still not at the…

See Thomas Sowell on this topic - from 1982 yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_sGn6PdmIo THe biggest factor for women is the 'Unmarried' category - which is not the same as being 'Single' . I think in addition to that we can add 'Mother' as a big factor. What these people don't understand - it is not a Bad choice to work less, and to put more effort into your personal life. I think men could take a lesson from women here, instead of the other way around. Some people may want to define their l…

You have to factor in - additional hours to the work-week have more value than previous hours. For example, and to take it to the extreme, the person that is working 99 hours a week, is asked to put one more hour in. That is another hour they are not spending with their family,, another hour they don't spend with their children, another hour of sleep missed. Yes, they are going to get more for that hour, than say hour #41. It is not linear. If you work more than 35 hours a week, each additional …

Best GWW column ever. I think it should be side barred as required reading here. GWW - I haven't made it All the way through yet - but when you were comparing Marriage to Slavery - you didn't mention; Marriage is something a person enters into voluntarily. In fact, many times it is the woman herself Pushing for the marriage to happen. At least by the 1960s, I don't know if that is true historically.

From the Comments: Mischa Popoff Apr. 27, 2013 2:25 AM That's funny Robin Brown, but if you'd read my column you'd see I didn't say anything about hating single mothers. I said we should encourage single motherhood. As part of my research, I asked many single mothers if they'd recommend single motherhood to their daughters. they all said the same thing; that they'd recommend avoiding it if at all possible. The first step to stopping rape - is to identify the rapist. By clearing the murkiness between rapist/non-rapist - the rapist can be well on his way to jail - thus stopping rapists. I agree with the sentiments in this thread that feminism depends on the rape/threat narrative for its funding. There is a need to create more rapists, and so motivation to keep the distinction between criminal and non-criminal behavior unclear. When we decide we want to be serious about stopping rape - we will start …

|People communicating more clearly wouldn't stop rape, it would stop misunderstanding Clearer communication would stop that murky area that exists between date rape and regretful morning sex. There are some men who actually purposefully target women for rape. There was a chilling account of this on Reddit some time back, an admitted rapist telling how he did this. I never really understood how this could happen before I read that. The point is - by clearing up that murky area - we could start to…

The question was - how were the two instances different. Targeting a specific person, following them around, getting in their face, yelling obscenities - totally illegal. Blocking the exits - illegal. Tearing down posters - perhaps illegal, definitely against the basic principals of freedom of expression. Exercising your right to be foul and offensive in public - bad form, but legal afaik. The Red Haired lady was foul and offensive. I will defend her right to be offensive all day long.

The "Effing Scum" girl at the Warren Farrell lecture was outright harassing that guy. If I were to do the same to her, I would have fully - and rightfully - expected to be arrested. I have always thought the Toronto police department could have kept a lot of this from boiling over by arresting her, even if a day or two later. Furthermore - the protesters at the Warren Farrell event were blocking the entrance, not to mention tearing down advertisements for the event. The Red Haired lady was merel…

opgrop is right. When one spouse supports the other over a period of many years, the spouse that took care of the home front did not have the opportunity to build a career. Although many or most marriages today are dual income, there are still very many single income homes. Alimony is protection for the partner that did not build a career, and has less opportunity of earning income. It makes less sense when both partners are busy building a career and earning their own income. Women cannot expec…
