I am on my phone too so no worries, but this is in a new realization that I have that I don't think I've thought about. Conservatives want to conserve a certain way of life that they had. From that lens their views makes total sense, what they grew up with is what they want to go back to. A time where they thought their life was great. Progressives are more on the idealistic side as you said, hoping for a better future. Few are living in the now and enjoying things as they are.

Interesting, I can't say people who voted for Donald Trump as leaning towards an analytical view. The feverish loyalty to someone who they think is going to save them isn't very analytical. Conservatives want to conserve their way of life, it just depends how far back some want to go. Back before women's rights? Back before segregation? Slavery? I think you just destroyed my mind, I wasn't expecting this response. You put it into words better than I ever could. Living a life free from the mental concepts and seeing them for what they are is what the buddha found and ended his suffering. The duality between me and chasing a goal was the dissatisfaction all along. Life still goes on, goals, pursuing, are happening, but you can finally enjoy the ride instead of struggling all the way.

From direct experience, if i sit with my eyes closed for a while and not chase anything, I get the highest bliss and satisfaction, like a parched man in the desert that finds a wellspring. I wouldn't want to do any of that on my deathbed, just that I lived a happy, fulfilling, wholesome life with no regrets. If being a degenerative is what you wish to become, then more power to you. Usually death has a way of clarifying what's important in life.
