Definitely worth it, it's a great movie and it delves into several topics you rarely see represented in mainstream culture.

I'm not sure what you're saying exactly. Sounds like you think the movie covers a lot more mens rights issues than I mentioned, but this was intentional on my part to avoid spoiling the film... But then you're saying it sounds like a soap opera? I'm confused.

Gone Girl (2014), I don't want to spoil it much but a big theme is 'spousal deceit' and how society regards the stories of a person based on their gender.

Because breasts have some non-sexual function I guess they can't ever have a sexual function. By that logic, a penis has the non-sexual function of urination, so I guess then it can't ever have a sexual function, then by their logic dick-cleavage is acceptable.

I feel genuinely bad for this guy, he clearly feels like the world has abandoned him. I hope he is able to find someone whose solution to him doesn't devolve to "manning up". That said, he says "IVE CALLED SO MANY THERAPISTS" after saying "...NO ONE REALLY GIVES A FUCK TO HELP ME". A therapist is literally paid to give a fuck to help you. So I'm not sure what's going on here. I hope this guy keeps looking and didn't just talk to a couple of shitty therapists and just gave up. Sometimes we look f…

I think people are being unusually harsh here because they're pointing out the opposite would make people lose their minds, well, that's half the story. I think this was probably a dumb joke, but to address the reversal claims: Now, in my situation, if I were to do something similar, roles reversed, with my girlfriend, my close friends would know it was a twisted joke and laugh at it, but a larger audience would call for my head. So the bigger problem is actually that the larger audience was ok …

Can I get a source for that video? I haven't seen or heard anything like that before. That's like cartoon level villainy.

I love how everyone in this thread was a witness to this event. Yeah it's silly how the story (and even the neighbors) are painting someone they don't know in such an innocent light (likely because it's an attractive looking woman), but the truth is, ignore everything outside of this event for a moment, do you know for sure which asshole was defending themselves and which asshole needlessly attacked the other?

If this hypothetical guy took off his watch leaving it on the table to go to the bathroom or something, and it got stolen, then I'd throw a good amount of that blame his way. Shit needs to flow toward bad decisions, and there's plenty of shit to be flown. Now, with this piece, if you actually try to flip the scenario in a lot of these sentences to what they're mocking, it doesn't make sense or I've never heard it said. For example the line "Who said you must get drunk?", I think the blame people…

I think you misread what I said and quoted 100% out of context. So much so that I suspect you're a troll, in case you're not, please re-read the sentence without skipping parts: "...some simply assume instead that all men are capable of rape, which is a distinct but also bullshit premise."

That's illogical. You're claiming to speak to someone who doesn't use logic you have to speak illogically. That's like saying to speak to a crazy person you have to yell crazy things at them. If you're going to speak to someone who doesn't understand you, you still need to be logical in what you say and how you say it.

Unpopular opinion here, but I'm not a fan of this critique, it's illogical at various times and makes claims bigger than the narrative actually enforces. To be clear, I do despise the narrative, but this list was made emotionally and not based on sound logic and organized thought. Clearly whoever made this wanted it to be shared, and if you want a list shared, it should be accurate, clean, and sound. I'm here to tell you why I believe it's not. My thoughts, point by point: Not every "teach men n…

Yea I hate that crap, I see that shitty editing on a lot of these videos trying to be funny by adding "thug life" or whatever the fuck, but they all come across as juvenile. I just prefer hearing the words and so I thought I'd save everyone a few clicks.

I have it in my queue to watch this relatively long video when I have the time. But for the time being, can you explain this "coercion" you speak of? I'm assuming it isn't actually coercion because I doubt anyone is saying "Oh yea I guess you did give me that pack of gum when I first got here, ok, I guess I won't try to stop you from raping me."

So, there are two points I'd like to speak to. First, speaking only from personal experience, I have seen numerous cases of disability fraud and how easy it is to commit. I'm not even speaking to the statistics of it, because actively seeking disability payouts is probably far less likely than the more passive version of the fraud: impending divorce where a spouse can simply start claiming chronic back pains to a willing doctor. The second point is this, and this is how I handle all thought expe…

Your explanation makes me understand the motivation here, totally understandable to want to address this. But shouldn't the disability (and severity of) simply be a factor in determining amount/length of alimony? As opposed to permanent 50% lifetime alimony? For example, your situation being one extreme, imagine the other extreme. Imagine someone married for a year. Do-nothing spouse gets some kind of (fake) "anxiety" or "chronic pain" disorder halfway through. Now they get alimony forever?
/r/MensRights11/07/16 06:33 PM

I don't see how the last row in your alimony table isn't a terrible idea Was either spouse declared permanently disabled and incapable of earning wage ...Spouse is awarded a life long 50% alimony. If I was disabled at any other time in my life, I would still need to make a living for myself, why does being married during that time entitle me to have someone else pay me forever? I'd bet my life that if this became the rule, we'd start seeing Day 1 permanent disabilities skyrocket. Sorry, unless I…

That article lacks an unfortunate amount of detail. Why did the teenage gang think this guy was a pedophile? Why does the article say they were mistaken? The article basically doesn't address at all how this event came to be. They only say this one line: There was no suggestion Mr Kelly was a paedophile and he may have believed he was meeting an adult woman. What the hell does this mean, how do they know that? Did the teenagers try to 'Catch a Predator' him? Did they just kill the first guy who …

People keep saying "fired for having an opinion", that's not quite accurate. There's two distinct things here. Having an opinion, and an action associated with an opinion. As far as I'm concerned you can have any opinion you want. It's when you actively speak out or give speech on that opinion that it crosses over into an action. For example, if this person was asked by her boss at lunch what her opinion was on men and she said she hated them, I don't know that I would feel as good if she got fi…

I'm sorry to hear about the outcome of all this, it's never fair when it's a 'he said she said' and you're the 'he'. Anyway, I am really scratching my head here about something that people don't seem to be talking about. When I read words like "playfully tease", "playfully grab", and "innocent fun at work", my eyebrow is raised to the heavens. The word "tease" has a broad range of meanings, it can mean a mutually participated jest, or it can be an insult that could be considered bullying. Can yo…

I'm not sure what the message was in that segment, but I'll just point out a couple of issues I had with what was said. First, do we really now have to pick politically correct and socially sensitive metaphors for sex? The problem she had is with the baseball metaphors for sex. The claim was that this analogy has many bad lessons for men. But that isn't a tool for teaching, it's an analogy to represent progress. That whole complaint is silly, if you look this hard to find a flaw in an analogy, e…

I think the argument you're referring to is based on the logic that if a company could get the same exact work from a woman and pay them 77% of the equivalent men's work, then it would be a poor financial decision to hire men. The reality is that companies do not exclusively hire women to save on employment costs. Therefore there are 3 possible conclusions: women do not perform equivalent work, women aren't paid less for the equivalent work, or companies are willing to spend more money for zero …

One thing that irks me about that description is the first example of progress made by men in society: "Such progress includes that of men working together with women to make educational, economic, social, and technological advances in society" Can we not have sentences anymore that are just about men? Is there some rule that we can't say one positive thing about men without saying something equally positive about women? I mean, also take a look at the page for International Women's Day, no ment…

Oh wow, I didn't even think of it that way. I took the "fantasy" to be the teacher fantasizing about having sex with the students. But I think you're right about one thing, this is confusing. There is so little context here that there's too many interpretations of what's being said and what is meant. I can't take anything away from this. Time to abort thread.

Couldn't tell if that first question was rhetorical, but I'm just saying that it is a double-standard to regard women showing "self control" around students as a natural sexual urge, but regard men showing "self control" around students as a pedophile constantly battling urges to molest them.
/r/MensRights06/09/13 05:51 PM

By itself, it's unspecific. But the first line did say "who HASN'T had this fantasy!". Implying this comment is speaking to all "ladies".

I think you might be mistaken here, if the last line was serious, then it makes the double-standard point here, because imagine if the line was said as a man to other men about not molesting their underage students. It would immediately imply that men DO want to sleep with underage girls at all times and just need to prevent themselves from doing it at all times. But I am pretty confused here, the first and last sentences sound sarcastic, but the middle one sounds like this person might be serio…

Number 8 is fucking evil. Obviously the rest of this test/survey is gender bias, but number 8 is like the question "Do you still beat your spouse?" and the options are Yes or No. Any answer you choose will imply you are a horrible person. Answer, "Strongly Agree", and you imply that alcohol can and will turn you into an animal with no control over your sexual decision-making. Answer, "Strongly Disagree", and you imply that you are in denial about the effects of alcohol. Answer either of the othe…

Stupid way to start an article, but that first sentence tricked me to for a second: "You have probably heard about Justin Carter in passing". Without the word "in" this would have meant he died.

Maybe I didn't catch it because of the poetic language, but where does he praise feminism? He has a line about how saying 'man up' is demeaning to women, because the positive qualities associated with the phrase are implied to be exclusive to men. But I actually agree with his observation about the asymmetry there, so I'm not sure what else you were referring to. edit: I now think you were talking about #7, the whole thing about "raising skin" confused me. I still don't think he was praising fem…

Agreed, I don't like to write people off like that, and I'd like to hear his side, especially since he seemed vehemently disgusted by this particular forum. Let's not start hating everyone who talks crap against MRM, Sessler is a very smart guy, and I'd like to believe that with the right (non-hateful) dialogue, we'd be able to get through the layers of bs he's probably been fed.

I don't blame you. People here can be ...sensitive. It makes it difficult for me to join the conversation as well since I get downvoted like crazy when I express some argument that goes against the majority opinion. I mean, look at what I said above, not one part of what I said is illogical or invalid in any fundamental way, but I got downvotes to rival the up. Which is unfortunate because instead of joining the conversation themselves and expressing their view on what is wrong with what I said,…

I think you've addressed a few good points here that aren't being mentioned. The fantasy violence is disconnected to reality, but the "fantasy titulation" as mentioned above have a closer connection to reality, and therefore I would also suspect it has more of an effect on the player. Basically, in terms of his argument, it's not a great parallel. As for depicting women with the same "depth" as men in video games. I see no reason for these companies to do so. I, personally, want that. I prefer m…

You make a good point about certain gender roles possibly having been established a long time ago. With that in mind, it was also mentioned in the first video by one of the Norwegian doctors that they see signs of the mechanical-male-mind vs the people-oriented-female-mind so strongly and so early in the life of a child, that they use the method of toy-picking on children born with both genitalia to determine the true gender of the child. Now, although I do care for a lot of these discussions my…

Never said environment and gender roles have nothing to do with interest, I'm saying that data from countries where there is less gender pressure shows that women are less likely to choose careers involving math. I'm not sure why you find that "irrelevant". In the other videos in this series (I think specifically the Sex one), they make the point that if environment and gender roles were as powerful as people thought they were, then there should exist societies on earth where some of these stats…

Did you actually watch the episode? They mentioned more than once that in countries which are considered more 'gender equal' will actually have less female engineers or male nurses. In these fields, the gender ratios are on the order of 10 to 1. Above, you wrote women may be "slightly worse at math". There is capability and then there is interest. Woman can be a thousand times more capable at math than men or a thousand times less, but we at least know for sure that they're 10 times less interes…

The solution to the problem in this specific case has little to do with MRA, that is, cops should be held accountable for false arrests. Currently, they can just arrest anyone without repercussion, and then figure out the story later. If there was punishment (e.g. lawsuits) for false arrests, the cops would be a little more invested in determining what's going on before just fucking everyone up. I know some people are going to have the reaction, 'Well, just do what the cops tell you to do, and y…

This happened to my sister when she was young and I can tell you that it damaged her and her future relationships irreparably. It's been 15 years since, and she still cries when someone brings up the parties involved. So fuck anyone [Vagina Monologues or otherwise] who says this kind of shit about blossoming sexuality. Keep your bullshit views on the benefits of molesting underage girls/boys to yourself.
