Do you have any pets? If not, looking into one might help on the physical affection front.

It might not be strange, but it's still deeply self-sabotaging. The thing to recognize is that you've gotten into a headspace where it doesn't matter what someone says or how much they actually like you, because you'll just twist what they say, shove hateful words in their mouth, or call them a liar (and there's only so much of that a person can put up with before throwing up their hands in frustration). And that isn't something that anyone else can fix for you: they can extend a hand towards yo…

My dad once told me and my sister that most guys grow out of acting like jerks when they stop worrying about impressing other guys and start worrying about impressing girls, and it seems to me that manosphere types ultimately aren't nearly as interested in impressing women as they are in impressing other men with how many plates they can spin.

The enemy is wanting simple, easy answers to incredibly complex problems and believing that "understanding" is a one-time flip of a switch rather than a lifelong process of growth. Just calling something "logical" or "rational" doesn't make it so.

I'm saying like... just like... know what a healthy relationship looks like, and understand that like... you kind of have to give a little bit to get there. and like... part of a healthy relationship is a situation where the girl genuinely trusts the guys judgement. There's nothing healthy about your black-and-white, all-or-nothing view of what it means to trust someone's judgment. ALL relationships, romantic or otherwise, experience conflict and disagreements -- wanting to be such a super-aweso…

we as men commonly feel like you guys try to grab at the wheel a little too much, a little too quickly, giving us very little room for error, too quick to micro-manage Here's the thing, though: what do you consider "too much, too quickly"? Would you let a girlfriend give you directions through a neighborhood that she grew up in but you've never been to? Would you let her drive you around some of the time so that she doesn't feel like the useless potato who's mooching off of you instead of pullin…

Define "self-sufficient" for the purposes of your post. Is a man "self-sufficient" if he can bag a deer but doesn't know how to skin, clean, or cook it and relies on his wife to do those things for him?

The suggestion I'd make regarding loneliness is to focus less on impressing neurotypicals and more on finding your own people. My sister and her boyfriend are both autistic and have been in a loving relationship for several years now, we're pretty sure that neither of my parents is neurotypical either, and at present my (30F, autism/ADHD) biggest source of social interaction outside my family is the "oops all neurodivergent" D&D group my sister and her BF put together. Look for mixed-gender auti…

To add to what others have said, one of my favorite lines from EXU: Calamity is "Who is the most proud man here? These ones who thought they could fly a city? Or the man who thought he could teach ME a lesson?" There's a certain amount of ego that goes into thinking that either the depth of your compassion or the inescapable logic of your arguments is going to make someone let go of bullshit they're deeply invested in and have no interest in reexamining, and it's important to recognize when to w…

The other interpretation of the My Sister Is Off Limits trope I've seen is that it comes from not wanting your bros to treat your sister/mom/daughter the way they treat every other woman they sleep with, i.e. like shit.

Well, aside from their insistence that ALL women are inherently crazy and unstable (and therefore need to be abused and controlled) but the universe still revolves around sleeping with as many of them as possible.

But in general. In society and in culture and the media and in TV and in general stories told, the man is the one having to make all the heavy moves in the relationship. He's the one that has to pursue and put his best foot forward and sometimes even put up an act. His self-esteem and dignity is also on the line because sometimes a rejection isn't just a rejection. A man could go after the wrong woman and if she rejects them that's cool but if that woman then turns that interaction into somethin…

This tumblr post has a good summary of the relationship between neurodivergency and being seen as "weird" (and is highly applicable to my and my sister's situation since, like a lot of girls, we got diagnosed pretty late): sometimes, people don’t understand that we are hated for being autistic. “But I don’t hate autistic people!”. That’s right! Because you don’t know how autistic people are. You know, people never bullied me for being autistic. Because neither me nor they had the terminology. Na…

That assholes exist is something I've known since second grade; my point of disagreement is your assumption that women who are considered "weird" aren't mistreated or pressured by the normalcy police the same way that men are, which doesn't match up with my own experiences at all. If I may quote this Dr. Nerdlove article's discussion of the assumption that just have to breathe to get attention: First there’s the fact that women don’t “just have to breathe” to get attention from men. Instagram mo…

I don't think dating has to be different, though, seeing as the preference for the company of other weird people extends to my sister being in a loving relationship with a guy who's also autistic.

I think you're seriously overestimating how easy women have it. My sister and I are both on the spectrum and have our own traumas from being bullied and ostracized for it, and in middle and high school we got repeatedly accosted by other girls intent of giving us makeovers because the gods forbid we simply not care all that much about clothing and makeup. And while I can't speak for anyone else, both of us get far more enjoyment from finding other weird people we can have fun being weird with th…

Even if those commands are in fact tests, passing might not mean what you think it does -- the shitty women the RP attracts might view obeying as a "fail", but I can easily imagine other women seeing your helpfulness and thinking "Oh, thank God, someone who won't throw a huge tantrum if I ask him to take out the trash like my last boyfriend." And re: wanting to 'beat people to the punch': You hate yourself so loudly. You hate yourself at the top of your lungs. Your loathing for yourself permeate…

Because here in the real world, women are individuals making individual choices, not a hivemind running a vast conspiracy to systemically prevent certain people from ever having sex.

I think the main thing not being taken into account is romance. As a woman, when I hear "beta" I picture the kind of endearing cinnamon roll qualities I would look for in a boyfriend/potential husband, which I personally find far more appealing than the thought of an "alpha" who will give me orgasms and nothing else.

Even if we accept the terms of evolutionary psychology, this isn't how it works. Female reproductive cost isn't just in the limited number of eggs, it's in the nine-month gestation period, the risk of dying in childbirth, and the ridiculous amount of work required to raise a human child. These factors translate to women being incentivized to select for mates who will care for them when they're pregnant (good husbands) and assist them in rearing children (good fathers), not "Women have tons of se…
