You aren’t alone there, it felt like you were describing my own life back to me. You have many incredibly happy days ahead friend, and even your baseline level of contentment will bounce back.

It took time, but now when I think about my ex i’m only thinking about how grateful I am that she wanted to get divorced. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was deeply unhappy and unfulfilled. I didn’t allow myself to think about it or deal with it though because I made a commitment when I got married. I was prepared to be unhappy until the day I died, but I wasn’t going to break my commitment. Thankfully she wasn’t as resolute. I am much happier now than I was when I was married, and I hope…

Ultimately it’s going to depend on what feels right for you. I went on my first “post-divorce” date about a year after things were finalized. I felt really weird about it and didn’t go on another date for almost another year. I still don’t date much though. I have a lot to improve on before i’ll feel good enough to date seriously. I have a friend though who got divorced around the same time as me and he was in a relationship within 6 months of moving out. So it’s really entirely up to what feels…

The way you have described her behavior is not how reasonable people handle things. If I had to guess she probably wants to explore her sexuality, but doesn’t want to say that and officially (legally) end things. She may come back, but don’t waste your time. How could you ever trust her not to do that again? You deserve to be somebody’s priority, not their safety net, or backup plan. I am not a lawyer, but i’d say file the paperwork, cite abandonment, and don’t worry about a “scarlet letter”. I …

I saw one of your comments on another post and I wanted to circle back and thank you. This advice helped get me moving in a positive direction for the first time in a long time. There are still bad days, but after I get through the tough days I feel better about who I am than I did before I started working out, meditating, reading, investing, etc. So thank you

Thanks brother, this is exactly what I needed to hear. I definitely won’t complain about, or waste, this new found motivation. Some days it just feels like i’ll never get over it I guess. I can always count on this community to lift me up, and encourage me when I need it though, and I appreciate that

Sounds more like non-fiction if you ask me

I think the whole, “I’ve been unhappy for years” thing is a cop out. If she is anything like my stbxw she is just saying that to try and justify to herself that she started cheating. I’m sorry man, that sucks. You’re among friends here

Agreed. I think love is a good thing, but I will never get married again simply because I refuse to put myself in such a vulnerable position (financially, physically, to an extent emotionally) ever again.

This. This is exactly right.

I’m sure I could make a fuss about it, but she picked out the dog and frankly he likes her more than he likes me.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
