You can only write ‘allegedly’ when the police have actually charged a person with rape. Because it’s only an allegation until after the courts have heard it. If the media calls it rape, they open themselves up for: 1) Defamation, which can be incredibly costly. 2) Contempt of court, which risks having the entire case thrown out.
