I’m sorry you experienced this and I’m glad you’ve since made it out. I always advocate for keeping meticulous notes or even making an excel spreadsheet. It helped me realize a pattern of disappointing and abusive emotional cheating behavior that my ex displayed. And it also helped me catch him in lies I otherwise would’ve glossed over. Keeping notes keeps you objective.

This was supposed to be my first Valentine’s Day with a partner. But I ended things with him a few days ago and I have absolutely no regrets. He went around telling our mutual friends that he had nothing planned for the day and wasn’t planning to put in any effort. He knew this was important and special to me but knowing he was going to do nothing absolutely killed me. I decided right then and there that I would not allow for my day to be ruined. I broke up with him and he was “blindsided” by it…

I can 100% attest to this as a South Asian woman. Most of the men in my culture are ZVM/NVM. My own father is a LVM and my mom is a horrible pick me. I’ve seen the generational damage and trauma caused to women by men and I refuse to continue the cycle. When desi men go to find a wife, they’re 100% just looking for mommy 2.0 that they can also fuck for free and abuse without consequence. It’s led to a culture amongst South Asian women where comparing suffering and trauma is a typical activity an…

Experiencing this now and actively planning my exit from this relationship. Good riddance to LVM. It always comes back to “if he wanted to he would.” Why put up with excuses when you can go out and find someone else who’s willing and eager to do the exact same thing your LVM is making excuses for?

My LVM father does this constantly to my pick me mom! It’s such a painful way to minimize someone and their feelings. Like their issues don’t warrant care or empathy.

I see this all the time! When I was dating I constantly had my parents breathing down my neck to not let him pay for things or take me on dates. Dating as a South Asian woman is so difficult. There are so many cultural things at play and oftentimes South Asian women settle because the man is a better cultural choice rather than a good fit for them personally. It’s all about satisfying others rather than satisfying yourself.

This subject is a little complicated for me. On one hand, my last name is useful because of how ethnically ambiguous it is. So I tend to have an easier time when introducing myself, applying to jobs, etc. My last name is also quite memorable and I like the way my name flows. However, my father is a LVM and his first name is also my middle name. There’s no pride in my father’s family name. If my future husband’s last name had a good flow to it and was also as ambiguous as mine, I’d be inclined to…

Love that you’re from MD, makes this 20 times funnier. This is the energy I aspire to have.

Dolly Parton is an incredible woman, she’s done so much for her community and she’s adored for it. Yet she remains so humble and loving. She conducts herself with grace and class, like a true HVW.

The article unfortunately is critical of the way she donates money, but when handling such large sums it’s inevitable. That’s why the money goes through teams of people and it’s own firm. She donates with grace by keeping it so discreet in my opinion. At the end of the day, she’s creating an overall net positive which is enough for me.

This tweet is so relevant. I used to talk about having kids so casually until I really sat down and evaluated the pros and cons of having them. I looked at my own parents who had kids out of obligation and I realized I never wanted to repeat that cycle. I can’t ethically or morally justify having children. I enjoy my freedom, my time, my money, and my sanity.

This is exactly why I refuse to have kids as a baseline and would only ever begin to consider having children if my partner met my very high standards and expectations. I refuse to bring children into this world that I cannot adequately love and provide for. My children deserve only the very best.

I needed this reminder! I suggest writing out a letter on a google doc and then consistently re-reading it as reasons to never speak to the LVM ever again. You never have to send it or show it to the LVM but it’s a great source of clarity for when you feel urges to reconnect or reach out.

I relate to this. All my mother ever taught me was how to hate myself, my body, and my appearance. She is not feminine herself by any means and lacks class, grace, and basic manners. I’m in college now but I had to spend the last few years of my life teaching myself how to be a woman through careful observation and YouTube. I surrounded myself with elegant female mentors who I felt comfortable asking questions to about how to do my makeup and hair, what clothes to wear, etc. It’s been a slow pro…

I agree with this so much. Taking this time in my 20s to set the stage for a life of independence and happiness. Truly ready to live life on my own terms and not have to think about another person.

The only guy I’ve met from OLD is the one I’m dating now and he presented a few green flags. He was proactive in wanting to get to know me I could tell he was vetting me just as hard as I was vetting him He did not use pet names, say gross things, and was respectful throughout the conversation Respected that I wasn’t comfortable meeting up just yet and we instead arranged a zoom call that he was a bit early for We had two zoom calls before meeting up in person, when we met up in person he was ge…

Here are some date ideas I’ve done so far: Drive-in movie Mini golfing I went out to dinner (but sat outside socially distant a few times) Ice-skating during non peak hours Went to go look at the Christmas lights in a really cute part of town

Thought I had recovered from my old pick me ways but I caught myself slipping a few days ago on a date with a man I’ve been seeing for a few weeks. Ladies, I checked myself so quick, re-read the handbook, and got my head screwed on straight again. I’m staying firm in my boundaries, following the texting and calling rules, while letting myself be the prize. I’m not revealing too much information about myself to him anymore and I’m prioritizing my work by muting the conversation so I don’t see his…

Same here, can someone make a post discussing Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan, and all the other weirdos that men follow. What are they preaching and how does this effect us?

I 100% thought he was lying and that this was some elaborate scheme on his part to ghost me. But he did show up which I appreciated! I wonder if I’m being crazy but he did update his profile on Hinge after our date with new pictures, which bothered me. It’s only the first date so I’m keeping my heart on lockdown and trying to remain as logical as possible. I don’t want to emotionally invest and then get hurt.

Ladies, I'm not sure where else to put this but I went on an incredible date last night. It had a bit of a rocky start, he got into a minor fender bender on the way to the date but he immediately called me to let me know that he was getting it sorted and was going to be there no matter what. When he arrived at the restaurant he was an absolute gentleman, we had a lovely conversation and he showed me his car, so I knew he wasn't lying. He graciously paid for dinner and proactively planned for a s…

That’s what I’m thinking as well. I’m staying objective here because my thoughts right now are telling me that he’s just using me to replace his ex. She’s moved on, I’m not sure he is. They dated for 4.5 years and has only been officially single for a month. When I asked him if he was even ready to be dating again, he said that the relationship had been over for a while but only officially ended a month ago.

I need a spot to keep my running list of red and green flags. This guy and I matched on Hinge and have had two video meetings and are making plans to meet in person for a dinner date next week. He texts me every day (not excessively), made the first move, and actively plans things for us to do together. We get along well, but I need to remain objective. Red Flags He still has pictures of his ex-girlfriend up on Instagram but they do not follow each other, his ex already has a new boyfriend and s…

Thank you for this! I am remaining objective about the situation. There are some other things I need to investigate as well when we meet in person.

I think I might be experiencing this now. However the situation seems more nuanced. I’ve been on 2 dates with this guy from Hinge and we are meeting in person soon for a dinner date. He’s been great so far and has been treating me well. But he did drop on me that his Dad has cancer. He mentioned it briefly and I made sure to be sympathetic but to not engage too much. I’m unsure if this is a complete red flag. He said he wanted me to know because the situation is a bit touch a go right now and he…

For reference, he kept me looped in a textationship for two weeks. I had already lost interest and was ready to move on, we FaceTimed and then he ghosted me for about 2 more weeks. I forgot to block his number but had mentally forgotten about his entire existence until today when he texted me this garbage. Ladies, don’t make the same mistake as me. Do not entertain LVM, bread-crumbing, textationships, and never respond to disgusting text messages such as this one. I thought he had potential beca…

Ladies, I am going to be vetting a potential over facetime sometime this week. We have been texting for a week and I want to see if he is still worth my time and attention. What are some effective vetting questions to ask to pick out red flags?

Thank you! We have been talking for a few days and I feel like at around the 1 week mark he should be making plans to ask me on a date. I live in a COVID hotspot so I would not be comfortable with meeting at a restaurant. I’m open to video chatting with him as a screener though.

I just joined OLD as a 20 year old female. Most of the men on here are absolutely terrible, but I did match with one who I feel like I’m having a real connection with. I’ve set clear boundaries and he has remained respectful. I’m not sure if it’s extensively covered in the handbook but what is the general timeline I should look for in terms of him asking me on a proper date? He is well off and Ivy League/private school educated, and it shows. He was valedictorian of his high school class. He sta…
