There's a lot of variation. For example the NHS Scotland will give 6 weeks paternity pay, at full pay. Maternity pay is 90% for 6 weeks, then 33 weeks of SMP or 90% of pay if this is less. SMP is currently 150£/week or so.

It's the misuse of statistics. For example, recently in the UK it was highlighted that women have a longer period of poor health in old age. This is also entirely because women live longer - not because of discrimination against them in health care. It's closer to a 50-60% conviction rate at trial in the UK. Also it's just blatant bias. Primary school teachers for example report having to spend more time on teaching young boys than young girls....but it's mostly spent disciplining them, not teaching. Pinker in his book "Blank Slate" discussed how stereotypes are normally accurate, except where founded by prejudice. If you have had 50 years of feminism pushing the idea that boys are bad and girls are good, then discrimination is the obvious result.

This! It really struck home a few years back when the OECD published a report on activity by gender. The newspapers in the UK headlined it as "women do 50% more housework than men". It would be just as true to say "men do 50% more out of home work", and buried in details was the fact that men and women report about the same number of active hours per week - mid 60s - when you add all activity up.

That's a shame. And certainly not true of everywhere. In NZ and Oz and the UK, the best interest of the child is not necessarily the same as the best interests of the mum. As it should be. I have a mate who had a kid in Oz. Both were from NZ. Both highly paid professionals. Neither got to do what they wanted as the kid was settled in Oz and it was not in the child's interest to be uprooted for his mother's convenience or career.

Yep this. Before marriage, ending relationships seems to be a 50/50 proposition. After marriage... women initiate divorce by a 3:1 ratio, compared to men. Women have less to lose as they are likely to retain the children, housing and financial support from ex or state.
