Same job should equal same pay. But the gap is an on-average stat and no matter how much the census tries to control for all the factors that influence it, there are still several reasons. Sexism and unequal pay for same work is one part and that is both well documented and should be complained about until fixed. Another part is lower pay for some types of jobs, which is economically and culturally influenced, which is probably not worth complaining about but you can move to better align with. H…

Sounds like she figured she wouldn’t be successful as a leader for whatever team they offered her manager of. Either that was lack of confidence or shrewd analysis of the team and company dynamics-you probably have a better read on. But clearly she has leadership potential or they would not have offered her the position. Maybe point that out and encourage to look for the right manager role.
