There's a reason that engineers and doctors so often top out at upper middle class, being wage earners, albeit a high wage, but not really gaining true wealth (your money makes money/you could maintain your lifestyle without ever working again).

I think you hit the nail on the head with the Fuck You Money. John Goodman in "The Gambler" puts it well - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xdfeXqHFmPI

I wonder if that had something to do with the development of Ms. PacMan... but it's harder than the original...

Perfect your craft. Money doesn't solve everything and cause happiness, but it can make things a heck of a lot easier. And boost confidence. The payoff is better in the end. (Remember, if you're net worth is 0 in the US you're doing better than 85% of people)

Oddly enough, it's also illegal in King County (Seattle), Washington. It's only illegal to discriminate based on political orientation in a handful of jurisdictions. Ironically, I was prepared to utilize this law should I have had a problem being a right-winger in a super left-wing cuckshed, even though I'm fairly sure the law dates back to protecting the radical boomers...

Excellent read, and very observable. I was riding the NYC subway the other night - all the couples were the soy professor types with the fat feminist post-wall women - 3 couples, 3 convesations, each guy basically manipulated himself to...fit into his woman's hole . Mushy turd men Almost spit out my coffee from this! (Edit: Bad formatting because mobile post)

It can be a ton of fun and really eye opening. One of the best nights of my life involved driving to Las Vegas (from Seattle) and spending all night at a nightclub by myself.

This. In my personal opinion, money isn't a solution to every problem in life. But having it makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Speaking of gifts, this is an appropriate time of year for this conversation. "Men are evil. Let's get rid of all of them." "Honey, buy me things!!!"

Actually, a better response - fuck you money goes hand in hand with DGAF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdfeXqHFmPI

Not giving a fuck is absolutely the best way through life. When I started living life in a very DGAF way, the frame came with it almost automatically. Although maybe because enough confidence had to be built up to live a life of DGAF.

High risk, high reward? (Is it reward?)

It caused me to actually sub. Aside from that, there's enough failsafes anyway.

Clinging to things makes you upset when you lose them. You also know you will lose them (consciously or unconsciously), so you are anxious even before the loss occurs.

This shit? Lived there briefly to make money, gtfo. Yeah, you all have it good...because capitalism. Sure all those Microsoft/Boeing/Amazon people are evil...but they make up a pretty sweet tax base from which to take welfare! $1000 car registrations to pay for the bus! cough enough political rant.

It can be an impressive confidence boost -- if you go to the bar / other social activity that costs money (nearly everything costs at least some money) and you spend the whole time worrying about the fact that it costs some money, you're not going to have a good time. Emphasis on worrying. Worrying is an inverse of confidence. So, it may not be necessary for everyone. It may also be a huge confidence boost. Some poeple don't give a fuck -- and not giving a fuck is a total level of confidence.

He's the definition of beta bucks. It's interesting to observe the power dynamic on the show.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
