I was banned from r/cars for posting a car related question. I asked wtf was up with that and dude was an absolute fucking cosmic douchebag about the whole thing. I still have no earthly idea what the problem was.

Inmates are given far, far above the "minimum" when it comes to their safety. I can assure you, you quite literally have no idea.

I know this. My roommate is a CO, I don't need to be told the inner workings and responsibilities of a prison. The inmates do have to have their safety reasonably accommodated, which is what that place tried to do, over and over again, but due to this persons choice of what they did to their own body, they presented the institution an unwinnable scenario. No matter where that inmate ends up, somebody is gonna complain about the cruelty of it, as we are witnessing in this very thread. Safety is n…

No. It doesn't "mean that". It means that the person choosing to commit that crime is also choosing to risk being put into that building that EEEEEEEEVERYBODY knows is dangerous and sucks. Don't want to go jail, don't do shit that gets you put in jail. You don't get special privileges because your crime "wasn't that bad". That's not how it works.

Its jail. Not a vacation. It's a building housing a bunch of criminals in one place, that is always going to be inherently unsafe. If being in such a place makes you concerned for your safety, don't do criminal shit.

Guys, the debates over. This guy settled it for everybody, once and for all. Pack it up, we're going home.

You get zero years for not stealing food. Its also likely they may have been some sort of repeat offender if they got that much time for stealing food, you usually don't get such a stiff sentence the first time around unless it's a more serious crime. To be fair, I don't this person's legal history, that's just what I know from experience.

North America. An unimaginably higher number of actual criminals go to jail, and the person in this story wasn't innocent.

....yes. I literally said earlier that I have committed crimes in the past and was punished accordingly. Im not sure where you're getting the life sentence thing from.

Some people get a raw deal. That's a sad fact none of us like. I don't like that some people have to steal to eat. I lived in a truck for a year, I know what it's like to be hungry and you can't do shit about it. But stealing food because you can't afford it doesn't make it not illegal because it's sad. You get caught stealing, you get arrested, they knew that, they did it anyway, they got busted. If you are too poor for your hormones... you just don't have hormones, man. Idk what to tell you, t…

Privileged how? I grew up absolutely dirt poor around meth heads and career criminals. When I was younger and was caught breaking laws, I was punished. When I realized that way of life sucks, I just simply didn't break laws. It was literally as easy as just not doing it. Common sense and free will is a privilege we all have.

Im acutely aware of how prisons work, my roommate is a CO and I grew up around criminals and had to constantly listen to their never ending prison stories. This situation had nothing to do with them being incompetent. They didn't decide to swap this person's gender. There isn't a "right" answer to where to stick a transgender inmate, as we can clearly see with this story. No matter where they end up, somebody is gonna cry about it being "cruel" or "transphobic" or whatever. Nobody has an answer,…

Don't do crime, don't go to jail. How people still don't get this is beyond me.

I love how they describe the staff as incompetent. Literally all they did was try to find the safest way to accommodate a felon. What a bunch of losers.

My ex started hitting and clawing me because I didn't like the band Sublime. She was sitting on the couch listening to music, I was making lunch in the kitchen. We weren't conversing in any way. I didn't tell her to turn the music off or down or anything. I wasn't even paying attention to it. But as im wrist deep in meatloaf I get WHACKED on the jaw, then she starts with the typical angry girl windmill of punches and scratches. I grew up around enough domestic violence to know that if she so muc…
